6 . Directions: After reading the passage below, fill in the blanks to make the passage coherent and grammatically correct. For the blanks with a given word, fill in each blank with the proper form of the given word; for the other blanks, use one word that best fits each blank.

You only live once

Jia Ling has won the love and respect of audience with her unique comic style and unremitting efforts.

“YOLO,” which stands for “you only live once,” is the theme Jia aims     1     (convey) in her new film. The story follows an overweight, disheartened woman who becomes isolated from society. However,     2     Le Ying meets a boxing coach and takes up the sport, she begins to regain her passion and finds her way in life. The filming was divided into five phases, from when Jia had to gain 20 kilograms for the role to the final stage    3     she lost a significant amount of weight and became muscular. This method mirrors     4     some Hollywood stars, such as Christian Bale, have done, but Jia’s effort is jaw-dropping and takes it to an even    5     (extreme) level.

Yet, the film’s core goes     6     physical transformation. “This film is not about weight loss, nor is it much about boxing. It’s about a woman     7     (transform) from a weak, kind, and people-pleasing personality into one who finds     8    , enjoys, and controls her own life” Jia said. The same seems to apply not just to the role, but to the actress herself.

One factor for Jia’s success may be her passion for comedy. Jia graduated from Beijing’s Central Academy of Dram a in 2003. In the last 18 years she     9     (perform) crosstalk in various competitions and shows. She has also played comedic roles in many comedies on the big screen, which ultimately led to the connection between the stage and film.

Jia said she is not afraid of being typecast about the comedic roles. “For the moment, I don’t have the desire to star in non-comedy works. For an actor, performance should come from their heart. Besides     10     (fill) with emotions, I don’t have other big talents,” she told The Beijing News.

Jia’s impact has attracted international attention. Sony Pictures Entertainment announced on Feb. 10 that it had acquired the international distribution rights to “YOLO”.

7 . I had no idea that the Boulder International Film Festival (BIFF) existed (存在) until I went to the University of Colorado (CU) Boulder club fair with my best friend in September. There was a stand that was run to find volunteers for the festival in the spring, and I signed up. I wasn't quite passionate (狂热的) about films but just wanted to do some volunteer work.

The first volunteer shift I had was before the festival started, and I got to organize all of the passes needed for the festival, including those of all the volunteers, sponsors, filmmakers, and VIP members. I even managed to get a picture of myself and Ale c Baldwin's pass.

During the festival, I worked as a vaccine (疫苗) checker, checking people's vaccination cards and giving out wristbands since BIFF required everyone to be vaccinated to enter the many halls. This job-wasn't terrible, except for the fact that we were outside most of the time and it was snowing. By the end, I could hardly feel my feet, but I kept in high spirits.

Besides some short films, I really enjoyed “The Last Mountain,” a documentary about the life and death on a mountain in 2019 of the British climber, Tom Ballard, and the mountaineering history of his family. While I was crying throughout most of the movie, it was an inspiring story about love and passion.

9 . As an epic (史诗) which brings back to life some of the most famous poets from the Tang Dynasty (618-907) , on July 2, the animated movie Chang’an held its first release in what was once called Chang’an, now known as Xi’an.

Produced by Light Chaser Animation, a Beijing-based animated studio known for its focus on tales inspired by traditional culture and mythology (神话), the film is scheduled for a nationwide release on Saturday.

With a total time of 168 minutes — the longest of any Chinese animated movie to date — Chang’an mainly chronicles the decades-long friendship of Li Bai, arguably the country’s most beloved poet, and Gao Shi, his close friend and a well-known poet.

In an interview, Zou Jing, the director of the movie, discussed the challenges faced in bringing their story to the screen. The biggest challenge we faced was deciding how to present the impressive prosperity (繁荣) of the Tang Dynasty. Before production began, our team studied historical materials, read as much as possible about Tang Dynasty culture and the poets’ lives. We invited experts from different fields to guide us to make sure the content was correct and reliable, and we also learned thoroughly about the poems in this film.

Zou Jing added that in this film, animation gave us a strong expressive means to present Chinese poetry culture in a more impressive way so that the audience could better understand the poetic mood and artistic concepts of the poets.

Chang’An is set up as the first in a series of New Culture films that Light Chaser plans to produce. Speaking with Global Times, Zou Jing explained, ”The New Culture series will be based on actual historical figures in China. This is the key of the series.”

文章大意:本文是一篇应用文。文章主要介绍了四部迪士尼电影。

10 . Here are the Disney movies recommended by Brandon Dammit for this weekend.

Fantasia 2000

Budget: $80 million

Score: 75%

I remember disliking Fantasia 2000 in theaters as a young child, but I have developed a much deeper appreciation for the fantastic music as an adult. Disney has employed advanced sound tools to produce a movie that was under-appreciated at its first appearance.

Pete’s Dragon

Budget: $65 million

Score: 60%

I love Disney as much as the younger generation. But it’s disappointing to see flavorless remakes like The Lion King and Beauty and the Beast harvest billions at the box office while more soulful remakes like Pete’s Dragon is largely ignored.

The Rescuers Down Under

Budget: $38 million

Score: 70%

I won’t lie to you, kind reader. The Rescuers Down Under is the only movie that I’ve never seen here and my honor won’t allow me to pretend otherwise. According to Disney, it’s about the world’s bravest mice, Bernard and Bianca, who race to Australia to save a boy and a rare golden eagle from a cruel hunter. So, you know, normal Disney stuff.

The Great Mouse Detective

Budget: $14 million

Score: 72%

Picture this: a young mouse named Olivia is committed to discovering the truth of her father’s disappearance in 1897 London, and she got the help from his friends, Dr. Dawson and Toby. It’s basically Disney’s Sherlock Holmes.

1. What does Brandon Dammit like about Fantasia 2000?
A.The plot.B.The dialogue.C.The music.D.The actors.
2. Which remake should receive better acceptance according to Brandon Dammit?
A.The Lion King.B.Pete’s Dragon.
C.Beauty and the Beast.D.The Rescuers Down Under.
3. How much has Disney spent on the Great Mouse Detective?
A.$14 million.B.$ 38 million.C.$ 65 million.D.$80 million.
