1 . Gong Linna, well-known Chinese musician and founder of Chinese New Art Music, put her music teaching methods to practice for the first time at the Tracing Roots practice concert and music festival of the Affiliated High School of Peking University on May 23.
The first song of the concert, Search High and Low, is an allusion (暗指) to the classical poem Li Sao(离骚), “The road ahead will be long. I shall search high and low.” “It’s arranged to be sung by all performers, indicating that we should all search high and low for our roots,” Gong says.
To explore the education and the popularization of Chinese music, in 2017, Gong established a research and development team, which includes ethnomusicologist, Du Yaxiong, and music historian, Zhao Zhongming, to introduce her music teaching methods and summarize the vocal skills of Chinese music.
Gong believed that the popularization of Chinese music should rely on primary and secondary schools rather than music academies. The children’s passion for music and their outstanding performance amazed Gong, “When singing, they are completely absorbed in the music. Music brings light and richness to one’s spiritual world. So, learning to sing is never about passing examinations, but about enjoying the music.”
Lu Yueming, instructor of the school’s art center, said, “The children worked really hard and kept in mind Gong’s instructions. Seeing their performance, I know that they truly fell in love with traditional Chinese music.”

“Seeing the children perform my pieces, I realized I should write more songs for them,” Lao Luo, Gong’s husband said proudly. “It’s a great encouragement for me to see how much they like the songs, and they really need content related to Chinese culture.” With an international vision, Gong will continue to write songs based on Chinese folk music or ancient poems.
Gong said children should learn about the beauty of Chinese music. Only when you know about your own sounds, can you have cultural confidence.

7 . What a year, it’s been for music! Although the industry is still influenced by the COVID-19 pandemic, so many talented artists were able to put out hit songs, and music videos this year. Here are some of the best ones!
“Kiss Me More (feat. SZA)”— Doja Cat
It has taken Doja Cat many years to become an artist capable of critical respect. Planet Her is one of her most breathtaking albums released, and among so many standout tracks (歌曲), “Kiss Me More (feat. SZA)” takes the lead. With a tasty hook, soft and comforting disco atmosphere, the song deserves all the recognition it has gotten.
“Easy On Me”—Adele
Adele made her long-awaited return this year. Her track “Easy On Me” broke the world record for the most streamed song in 24 hours, with 24 million streams. Adele is the queen of ballads, and we. love “Easy On Me” for its subtle soul sounds, daring vocals, and heartfelt message about asking for forgiveness from our loved ones.
“Happier Than Ever”—Billie Eilish
Talented artists like Billie Eilish only come once in a generation. We believe “Happier Than Ever” is to Eilish what “Bohemian Rhapsody” is to Queen. Sure, maybe the former song isn’t as rock-heavy or revolutionary as the latter, but it is similarly emotional, vocally impressive, and a song we think will remain as a “classic” in years to come.
“Butter”—BTS
If the Beatles brought the “British Invasion” to the U. S. in the 60s, BTS is bringing the Korean Wave in the 2020s. This year, the beloved K-pop group’s “Butter” broke so-many records, and it’s hard to keep track. What makes the song so tasty is its sweet and playful atmosphere, amusing lyrics, and ability to show each group member’s unique personality. Because of that, it easily became a smooth summer anthem, which gives us a reason to smile, dance, and sing for a change.

9 . Music is an international language that is beautiful to people all over the world. It seems to be a natural need for us.
Music plays a significant role in education. Studies have indicated that music physically develops the part of the brain known to be involved with language.
Additionally, music can have positive influence on mood, and many people will turn to certain songs to improve their moods. The main reason behind this phenomenon is that music has the ability to express one's feelings better than any other medium.
A.So how does it help us? |
B.The two are so closely related. |
C.Let's see how people enjoy music. |
D.Perhaps it feels like a waste of time. |
E.The key is to choose the right type of music. |
F.Music has some sort of psychological effect. |
G.Good music also makes us remember the moments when we were happy. |
10 . When students and parents are asked to rate subjects according to their importance, the arts are unavoidably at the bottom of the list. Music is nice, people seem to say, but not important. Too often it is viewed as entertainment, but certainly not an education priority(优先). This view is shortsighted. In fact, music education is beneficial and important for all students
Music tells us who we are. Because music is an expression of the beings who create it, it reflects their thinking and values, as well as the social environment it came from. Rock music represents a lifestyle just as surely as does a Schubert song. The jazz influence that George Gershwin and other musicians introduced into their music is obviously American because it came from American musical traditions. Music expresses our character and values. It gives us identity as a society.
Music provides a kind of perception(视角) that cannot be acquired any other way. Science can explain how the sun rises and sets. The arts explore the emotive(情感的)meaning of the same phenomenon. We need every possible way to discover and respond to our world for one simple but powerful reason: No one way can get it all.
The arts are forms of thought as powerful in what they communicate as mathematical and scientific symbols. They are ways we human beings “talk” to each other. They are the language of civilization through which we express our fears, our curiosities our hungers, our discoveries, our hopes. The arts are ways we give form to our ideas and imagination so that they can be shared with others. When we do not give children access to an important way of expressing themselves such as music, we take away from them the meanings that music expresses.
So music education is far more necessary than people seem to realize.
