文章大意:本文为一篇新闻报道,介绍了两大视频网站腾讯视频和爱奇艺的额外收费政策及其带来的社会讨论。

5 . The new TV series Joy of Life is a hit, scoring 8/10 among the most critical reviewers of Douban, a Chinese social networking service website. The series premiered(首映)on Tencent Video and iQiyi(online video platforms)on November 26,2019.

But how would you feel if Tencent Video and iQiyi allowed anyone to pay an extra fee to see a show’s upcoming episodes(集)ahead of schedule? The two of China’s biggest video streaming platforms decided to allow users to pay an extra fee on top of their subscription(订阅)to get advanced access to episodes of Qing Yu Nian(Joy of Life). Monthly subscriptions for Tencent Video cost 15 yuan(US$ 2.14)and iQiyi charges 19 yuan(US$ 2.71). Under the new policy, users could pay 50 yuan(US$ 7.14)to always stay six episodes ahead in Qing Yu Nian. Alternatively, watching a single episode in advance costs 3 yuan(US$ 0.43).

Users are mad about Tencent Video’s and iQiyi’s extra fees on top of subscriptions. On Weibo, a Chinese microblogging website, tags related to the two platforms’ pricing policies repeatedly recurred on trending searches, where many people were found complaining about the platforms being greedy and called for the audience to boycott the policy.

The policy also drew criticism from People’s Daily. The state-owned newspaper said the platforms “have bad table manners” and “drain the pond to fish and burn the woods to hunt,” which are Chinese idioms used to describe someone focusing on quick profits as opposed to long-term interests. People’s Daily also said the sites look down upon on users’ rights. ” Two lawyers apparently agreed. The lawyers, who claim to be users of Tencent Video and iQiyi, started two separate cases, saying that they violated users’ rights.

But some experts don’t think the new pricing rules are unreasonable. Zhu Wei, a professor at the China University of Political Science and Law, argued in an article that charging outside subscriptions are value-added services and don’t violate the law. But Zhu added that the platforms are at fault for not properly informing users about the policy in advance.

In the face of extreme competition and perhaps an ambitious business model, China’s streaming giants are hoping that additional charges could turn their luck around. But judging by the pushback on social media, it may not be so easy. It’s hoped that the next stage of this streaming war is a little more friendly.

1. According to the new policy, how much will the subscribers pay in total if they want to watch six episodes on Tencent Video in advance?
A.50 yuan.B.18 yuan.C.65 yuan.D.69 yuan.
2. What is the author’s attitude towards the new policy?
A.Indifferent.B.Neutral.C.Favorable.D.Critical.
3. What does the underlined word “recurred” mean in Paragraph 3?
A.Appear.B.Perform.C.Attract.D.Serve.
4. What is the best title of the passage?
A.A well-received TV play.B.An actor loved by the audience.
C.A debatable charging policy.D.A TV play worthy of money.

Next, be aware of a most important task of a student. Everyone is supposed to studying hard at present. Last but not least, why not to worship the stars around us? 7 . Tips on Presentation Skills

Even with a snappy (漂亮的)opening, after 10 minutes, most audiences will lose 75 percent of their listening capacity.     1    Effective speakers use a variety of presentation skills to deliver a message attractively all the time.

Effective speakers understand that wandering presentations are impossible to understand and are guaranteed to lose an audience. Behind every powerful speech is a solid outline matching with the goal of the presentation. One basic structure is an “open, body and close” approach.     2     If the goal is persuasion,Motivated Sequence (激励序列)is a technique of presenting information that involves an audience in both a problem and a solution.

3    Practice and relaxation are the best ways to improve voice tone and pace. Being well prepared and relaxed can help a speaker deliver speech confidently. Not everyone is born a good presenter. Skills and techniques can be obtained by practice including an appealing voice tone at a proper speed when presenting.

Nonverbal communication, such as dress and gestures, can dramatically influence the acceptance of a presentation. A speaker's dress should match his audience and the significance of the event. For example, a speaker presenting to a corporate audience should wear a suit. Dress specifics will vary from speaker to speaker, but the key is choosing clothes that enhance(增加),not distract, from the message.     4

5     PowerPoint is a popular, but often misused, presentation technology. Like nonverbal communication, the key to PowerPoint success is designing slides to enhance, not take over, the presentation.

A.If used correctly, technology can help keep audience's interest.
B.This can't happen if a speaker is too worried about his/her own reaction.
C.If the goal is to inform, information may be structured by cause and effect
D.Voice tone and speed are well-known topics when it comes to presentation skills.
E.It means a speaker must work throughout the speech to draw listeners into the presentation.
F.Message acceptance is a two-way communication process and requires audience agreement.
G.And keep movement close to the body to ensure gestures are emphasizing key points but not distracting from the message.

8 . Once again DC Comics and Warner Bros. have divided fans and critics over their latest superhero film.

There had been worrying news about Justice League in the months before its release, with a lot of reshoots of scenes, a new director being brought in to finish the film after original director Zack Snyder’s tragic loss of his daughter and, of course, a lot of talk about Ben Affleck’s future in the role of Batman.

Some people are saying that Justice League is another big disappointment, that it could have been incredible and instead fails to really entertain. Others say that Warner Bros. have finally got it right and that the future for the League looks bright.

My opinion lies somewhere in the middle. The film was by no means a disappointment: it was exciting, funny and a lot of fun to watch. There’s something special about watching the heroes from your childhood brought to life on the big screen and maybe that is affecting my opinion.

However, I will say that a lot of work needs to be done if the producer wants to make a great success. Although the film was good, it was obvious which scenes had been reshot and how the characters had been changed. I also have to mention the several scenes in which the special effects were very badly done; these are the kinds of problems that you don’t expect to see in a film with such a big budget.

Another point to add is that it is good to see the producer making Superman slightly a brighter character and adding some jokes to the plot to keep things fun. But the producer must be careful not to make the mistake that another film producer—here, not mentioning the name—is coming very close to doing: turning all of the films into bright and colorful shows and losing a lot of seriously good stories.

In the end, Justice League is not a perfect film but it is definitely not a terrible one. A lot of work is still to be done but I hope that DC does not completely lose its darker side.

1. Before the release of Justice League, many people showed their ______.
A.pity for the director, Zack SnyderB.concern about the film’s quality
C.higher expectation of the new directorD.support for the actor, Ben Affleck
2. According to the author, what’s special about Justice League?
A.It advocates social justice.B.It brings lots of fun to the audience.
C.It has some brave heroes.D.It brings back childhood memories.
3. In Paragraph 5 the author mainly wants to express his ______.
A.views on the film’s weaknessB.advice to the film’s director
C.love for the filmD.expectation of the film’s sequels
4. The author mentioned another film producer to ______.
A.stress the importance of fun in a film
B.show Justice League’s lack of a serious plot
C.serve as a warning to the producer of Justice League
D.set an example for the producer of Justice League

9 . Chinese audiences seemed not to have been satisfied with the third season of the highly anticipated food documentary A Bite of China.

Even though the series has maintained high viewership ratings since its comeback last week, much higher than other programs aired at the same time, the ranking on Douban, a social networking website featuring films, literature and events, slipped to 4.2 out of 10, as of Tuesday, compared with 9.3 and 8.4, respectively, for the first two seasons.

Picky viewers complain that some of the narration is not accurate, while others pinpoint misleading content. At the same time, food blogger @barbara questioned whether it is appropriate to give a close-up shot of the poisonous plant Nandina(南天竺)in a food program.

A Bite of China, which debuted in 2012, became hugely popular nationwide for its quality introduction of some rarely-known and mouth-watering domestic cuisine. In the new show, however, watchers are not satisfied with “irrelevant” food references, such as lipsticks made of Chinese traditional medicine and martial arts master.

The first episode introduced a hand-made iron frying pan from east China’s Shandong province, which prompted thousands of Chinese Internet users to buy one from China’s leading e-commerce website Tmall in the next few days. Sales of the pan at “Zhensanhuan” surged 6,000 times compared with a year ago, according to Beijing Youth Daily.

In response to overwhelming criticism and questions, A Bite of China production crew responded on Weibo that they seek innovation despite the risks following the first two phenomenal seasons.

“It is unavoidable to make comparisons with the first two, and some audiences may not accept the changes,” the crew said. “We explore the culture and civilization behind food, and give food a historic touch. That’s why we feature culinary(烹饪的)tools, feast and rituals, as well as a healthy diet to show Chinese wisdom and philosophy, which has not been shown in any food programs before.”

1. Why does the passage mention Nandina?
A.Because some of the narration is not accurate.
B.Because it may be improper to give a close-up shot of a poisonous plant.
C.Because it is misleading content.
D.Because it is not attractive at all to most picky viewers.
2. Which of the following elements leads to viewers’ dissatisfaction with the new show?
A.some mouth-watering domestic cuisines
B.food-unrelated items
C.some rarely-known cuisines
D.the increasing sales of the pan at “Zhensanhuan”
3. According to its production crew, what is unique to ‘A Bite of China III’?
A.It makes comparisons with the first two episodes.
B.It tells the story of some martial arts related to food.
C.It receives overwhelming criticism and questions from audience.
D.It focuses on cooking tools, rituals and healthy eating.
4. What is the best the title for the passage?
A.'A Bite of China III' Draws Criticism from Audiences
B.'A Bite of China III' Maintains High Viewership Ratings
C.'A Bite of China III' Changes for the Worse
D.'A Bite of China III' Explains its Purposes

10 .     1    Fans used to be crazy about a specific film, but now the public tends to base its consumption(消费) on the interest of celebrity attached to any given product. Besides, fashion magazines have almost abandoned the practice of putting models on the cover because they don’t sell nearly as well as famous faces.    2    .

Celebrity clothing lines aren’t a completely new phenomenon, but in the past they were typically aimed at the ordinary consumers, and limited to a few TV actresses.    3    The most successful start-ups have been those by celebrities with specific personal style. As celebrities become more and more experienced at the market, they expand their production scale rapidly, covering almost all the products of daily life.

4    No matter how famous the product’s origin is, if it fails to impress consumers with its own qualities, it begins to resemble an exercise in self-promotional marketing. And once the initial(最初的) attention dies down, consumer interest might fade, loyalty(忠诚) returning to tried-and-true labels.

5    The pop-cultural circle might be bigger than ever, but its rate of turnover has speeded up as well. Each misstep threatens to reduce a celebrity’s shelf life, and the same newspaper or magazine that once brought him fame has no problem picking him to pieces when the opportunity appears. Still, the ego’s(自我的) potential for expansion is limitless. Having already achieved great wealth and public recognition, many celebrities see fashion as the next frontier to be conquered. As the saying goes, success and failure always go hand in hand. Their success as designers might last only a short time, but fashion-like celebrity-has always been temporary.

A.Today, celebrities face even more severe embarrassment
B.It is the celebrity effect, rather than the quality of the products that appeals to the consumers
C.Celebrity has become one of the most important representatives of popular culture
D.The public’s taste of fashion is not always constant and easy to predict
E.Today they’re started by first-class stars whose products enjoy equal fame with some world top brands
F.However, for every success story, there’s a related warning tale of a celebrity who overvalued his consumer appeal
G.As a result, celebrities have realized their unbelievably powerful market potential, moving from advertising for others’ products to developing their own
