The “hottest” tourist city this winter in China is undoubtedly the picturesque ice city Harbin in Northeast China,     1     has become an Internet sensation (轰动).

Recently, a group of children from Nanning, Guangxi,     2     (wear) orange down jackets and blue pants, launched a unique study tour in Harbin. They were referred to     3     the “little tangerines (橘子)”, with the youngest only 3 years and 5 months old. The nickname stood for both their cute orange outfits and Guangxi’s well-known production. The use of orange coats     4     (choose) by a vote among the parents was primarily for safety reasons.

Each day, their attractive presence was trending on various social media     5     (platform). Wherever they went, they were     6     (warm) hugged and showered with love by the locals.

In Harbin, they enjoyed the local delicacies     7     watched a firework display amid the snowy landscape. At the northernmost police outpost of China, they sang the national anthem and showed respect for the border guards, marking     8     important part of their educational trip. 4 . Longmen Grottoes

As one of the three most notable Buddhist sculptures in China, the Longmen Grottoes have approximately 1,400 caves with over 100,000 statues. The grottoes were first dug and carved during the Northern Wei Dynasty. Representing the high point of Chinese stone-carving, the Longmen Grottoes are listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

White Horse Temple

Originally established under Emperor Ming during the Eastern Han Dynasty, White Horse Temple is the first officially-built temple in China after the introduction of Buddhism. As the cradle of Chinese Buddhism, it holds a vast collection of Buddhist statues and classic sutras. The temple is also famous for interior architecture inspired by the Buddhist styles of Thailand, India and Burma.

Millennium City Park

The Millennium City Park in Kaifeng is a large-scale historical and cultural theme park which copies scenes from the famous ancient painting Along the River During the Qingming Festival. Visitors can watch folklore performances like those of the Song Dynasty and see reconstructions of grand imperial halls and gardens.

Kaifeng Prefecture

Today, the rebuilt Kaifeng Prefecture is a scenic area built according to the architectural standards of the Song Dynasty. Visitors can read historical documents and watch performances.

6 . Nashville Sail Camp

Nashville Sail Camp is a learn-to-sail camp for all levels of sailors. Along with sailing, campers will learn valuable problem-solving and creative thinking techniques. They spend their days on shore and on the water, and will come home with plenty of hands-on sailing experience.

All groups are coached by US Sailing qualified instructors and helped by camp counselors (顾问) and junior counselors. Each day includes lessons appropriate for each learning level.

Opti 1

Our youngest and smallest campers will take the helm (舵柄) for the first time, learning the basics of sailing in pairs on board their boats.

Opti 2

Beginners aged 9 and up as well as Opti 1 graduates will increase their skill level at the helm of an Opti sailboat. Campers are encouraged to learn single-handed sailing after mastering sailing in pairs.

Sunfish

Sailors aged 11 and up will explore the waters on a leisure sunfish boat, one of the world’s most popular day sailing boats. Starting off in pairs to increase confidence and get practice with a friend on board, campers are encouraged to try single-handing the boat by the end of the week. Sunfish campers spend most of their time on the water throughout the week.

7 . By the time Joy Ryan, a US grandma, turned 85, she had never seen the ocean or mountains. For Joy, trips to the local fishing area with her husband were about the farthest place she had ever gone, even if she loved watching the Travel Channel.

But one day Joy’s grandson, Brad Ryan, discovered that he and his grandma had a common interest in their love for traveling, when they began to visit the American great outdoors together.

Brad said, “When I learned my grandma had never seen the great wildernesses of America—deserts, mountains and oceans, I thought there was something I needed to do.” It was after taking his grandma out of Ohio on a visit to the Great Smoky Mountains National Park that he came up with the idea of visiting all the 63 US national parks with her to create inspiring memories.

Going to all the 63 US National Parks is a huge achievement even for a much younger adventurer (冒险家). Brad said his grandmother’s physical strength (体力) grew with their trips. For example, his grandma went water rafting (漂流) at 91, with class three rapids and when walking at the New River Gorge National Park in West Virginia, she broke the record by almost a decade!

It wasn’t always like this, however. Joy was so wobbly (不稳的) on her first trip, challenged by her balance. A group of college students clapped their hands when she reached the top of a path they were following.

Joy broke her age limitation (限制) and at the age of 93, she made history as the oldest living person to visit every US National Park. Joy believes it’s the mix of hopefulness, willpower, and the good health that gives her strength.

9 . Located about 10 km northeast of the city center, the Chengdu Panda Base is a popular place to see lots of pandas of different ages in what’s close to their natural habitat.

Highlights and Travel Tips

The Chengdu Panda Base is a nonprofit research and breeding (繁殖) facility for giant pandas that was originally founded in 1987 and opened to the public in 1993. The center began with a population of just six giant pandas and has since grown to more than 100 pandas.

For visitors, it is more like a nice park than a traditional zoo. The base is large and nice to walk around, since much of it is in a bamboo forest. There are also shops selling panda-related souvenirs, but the prices are usually higher than markets or shops outside the base.

Accessibility Information

While the main road is flat, the base is large, so it is better for visitors with mobility issues to ride the shuttle (往返) bus. Visitors who completely rely on wheelchairs may need help from others to guide. Most restrooms within the base are wheelchair accessible.

How to Get There

It takes about a half hour and costs around 30 CNY to get to the Chengdu Panda Base from the city center by taxi. You can also get there by public bus or subway, although these routes require a few transfers.
