Li Daiyu and her cousin Liu Qian were on a trip to Canada to visit their cousins in Halifax. They decided     1     (fly) to Vancouver first and then take the train. The thought of crossing the whole country by rail was     2     (excite) for them.

They spent two days in Vancouver. There they took a boat ride,     3     (visit) an island and saw the beautiful mountains looking out over the city.

From Jasper, they caught the train bound     7     Toronto. One of the train’s first stops was in Edmonton, whose daily     8     (temperature) in winter average -10℃. From Edmonton, the train headed southeast across the great Canadian Prairie.

My Winter Holiday Plan

Next week, I     1     (be) on my winter holiday. My whole family     2     (fly) to Beijing from Melbourne on Monday and arrive at 10:00 a.m.. It will be a great experience for me to drive three hours among the mountains. The Great Wall was grand，a little rainy at first，but grand all the same. The mist covered the far end of the wall，    1     (give) it an almost mysterious feeling. The fog rolled in and out of the high mountains，revealing new parts of the wall as     2     (quick) as it covered them.I kept on walking，seeing watchtower after watchtower    3     my way. To my     4     (relieve) many people had decided today was not the best day     5     (climb) the wall，and I was there with very few people. I walked for    6    seemed like miles. Then I saw just how long the wall I was standing on stretched for.

I accepted，and after climbing the hundred plus stairs to the peak，I had to admit that the Great Wall truly lives up to its reputation. His guide gave him some green tablets and a mask which helped him solve the problems. Finally the English government tried to form the United Kingdom by getting Ireland connected in the same peaceful way. I stood on the deck,     1    ( stare) at the huge waves. From the moment we had left port and sailed into the English Channel,     2     weather had got worse and worse. Now, lightning flashed across the sky ,     3    was covered in dark clouds.

Suddenly, the noise of the engines stopped. The ship slowed, rolling heavily in the rough sea. A voice over the loudspeaker told us     4    (remain) calm — then added that a fire     5    (start) in the engine room, and said that all passengers must go     6    (immediate) to the nearest lifeboat station.

We all ran onto the deck, following the signs to the lifeboats. The ship’s officers arrived, made sure we had life jackets and showed us     7     to put them on.

I looked again in horror at the wild, stormy sea. The     8    (think) of being out there in a tiny boat was     9     (terrify). Minutes passed like hours, until at last a voice announced that everything was     10     control and the danger was over.We all cheered as the engines started again and the ship moved forward into the waves.

I still couldn’t believe it was over, though — not until we had reached port and I was standing on solid ground again!

Since my last letter to you, I have had a little adventure of     1     (I) own. Early this month, my mother and I took a     2     (fly) to Dunhuang, in the north-west of China. The desert out there was really quite amazing—I had never seen so much sand in my life! While we were there, we     3     (arrange) with a tour company to ride.     4    (camel). I was very excited because this was the first time I had seen one up     5     (closely). We had hoped that we would get to see some other wildlife on our trip, but sadly we didn't.

Since you are going to the Sahara, I have some advice—be sure     6     (bring) a large hat and a shirt with long sleeves—you'll need these     7     protection. The sun can be so brilliant you'll need to keep covered or you'll get     8    (burn)—my cheeks were red for days after my trip. And another thing, you'll need to keep.     9     good supply of water with you, since it is so dry and hot.

9 . After a long journey, we arrived in Jiuzhaigou late at night. The tour guide     1     (tell) us its name was from the nine Tibetan villages distributed along the valleys,     2     had the reputation of “fairyland on earth”.

The guide collected us at 8 am     3     next morning. Then we set off.

Jiuzhaigou was famous     4     the 118 beautiful lakes and the many astonishing waterfalls (瀑布). Clear streams in the valleys collected in beautiful blue lakes, while in some places they collected into waterfalls. The lakes were pure enough     5     (see) to the bottom, and they provided fantastic reflections of the facing trees and mountains. This     6     (real) was a place to lose a day in.

After the     7     (amaze) visit to the valley, we were treated to a well made singing and dancing show about Tibetan life. The     8     (performer) had beautiful traditional clothes, provided by     9     (they) families.

When the sun set, I found that time slipped away, and the tour was over. Although I hadn’t explored all the sights, I felt able to enjoy the heavenly     10     (beautiful). It’s absolutely different from UK. Oh, beautiful Jiuzhaigou, goodbye!
