Li Daiyu and Liu Qian were on a trip to Canada.Before     1     (start) out，they spent a couple of days in Vancouver,     2     there were some shops selling crafts and antiques. And then they passed the Canadian Rockies by train.     3     (see) from the train window, the mountains and forests of Canada looked massive. After that they took the train to Lake Louise，where the blue water took their breath     4    . Their next stop was in Edmonton，a city with daily temperatures     5     (average) －10℃. They had known that Canada is a country which has vast lands but     6     small population. However，they didn’t anticipate     7     (see) such an open country.They were so     8     (amaze). The train thundered on，and the red maple trees outside the window     9     (confirm) that autumn had arrived in Canada. It was not until 9:30 a.m.     10     they finally reached their destination—Toronto. The whole journey took them four days.

The next morning the bushes and maple trees    1    their windows were red， gold and orange， and there was frost on the ground，    2    （confirm）that fall had arrived in Canada.

Around noon they arrived in Toronto， the biggest and     3    （much） wealthy city in Canada. They were not leaving for Montreal    4    later， so they went on a tour of the city. They went up the tall CN tower and looked across the lake. In    5    distance， they could see the    6    （mist） cloud that rose from the great Niagara Falls， which    7    （be） on the south side of the lake. The water flows into the Niagara river and over the falls on    8    （it） way to the sea.

They saw the    9    （cover） stadium， home of several famous basketball teams. As they walked north from the harbour area， Li Daiyu said， "Lin Fei， one of my mother's old schoolmates，    10    （live） here. I should phone her from a telephone booth. "

On Aug 12, I started the second day of my visit to the United States. My mother's old classmate,     1     has lived there for a while, came with me. I soon found that the US is    2     （true） a "nation on wheels”.

I spent most of my day     3    （ride） in the car. 1 could sec the endless land and lots of trucks going past. There are many gas stations along the road. They not only provide drivers    4     food, showers and beds, but also services like truck repair.

It's not just truck drivers on the country's roads, but many bikers can     5     （see） as well. They're called "Harley knights （骑士）"     6       most of their vehicles are Harley Davidson motorcycles. They have their luggage     7    （tie） to the backs of their bikes and ride through the broad lands of the US. The exciting music they listen to while riding their     8    （motorcycle） beats together with their young hearts. These bikers stand for the passionate （热情的）on-the-road spirit of the US. They long to be close to the road and enjoy     9    （they）. At one gas station, we     10    （meet） four "Harley knights" who were about 70 years old. I envy these bikers, as they are living such colorful lives.
