Li Daiyu and her cousin Liu Qian were on a trip to Canada to visit their cousins in Halifax. They decided     1     (fly) to Vancouver first and then take the train. The thought of crossing the whole country by rail was     2     (excite) for them.

They spent two days in Vancouver. There they took a boat ride,     3     (visit) an island and saw the beautiful mountains looking out over the city.

Then they boarded the train to Lake Louise, where the blue water took     4     (they) breath away with its exceptional beauty. They spent the night and then headed north to Jasper.     5     (look) at the spectacular scenery, they both agreed it was the most awesome journey     6     they had ever taken.

From Jasper, they caught the train bound     7     Toronto. One of the train’s first stops was in Edmonton, whose daily     8     (temperature) in winter average -10℃. From Edmonton, the train headed southeast across the great Canadian Prairie.

After another day on the train, they     9     (eventual) reached Winnipeg. They travelled through the night and the next morning they reached Toronto,     10     capital of Ontario. Their trip from Vancouver to Toronto had taken four days in all.

My Winter Holiday Plan

Next week, I     1     (be) on my winter holiday. My whole family     2     (fly) to Beijing from Melbourne on Monday and arrive at 10:00 a.m.. After lunch, through the whole afternoon we     3     (visit) the Summer Palace. The next morning, we will visit the Palace Museum and we     4     (walk) and shopping along Wangfujing Street till the night. On Wednesday, we     5     (go) to visit the Great Wall. It will be a great experience for me to drive three hours among the mountains. Then we will go sightseeing in Shichahai and visit National Museum of China.On Friday, we     6     (make) a trip to Zhangjiakou and on Saturday morning, we’ll go back to Beijing. Most excitedly, we     7     (watch) Beijing Opera at the Mei Lanfang Theatre in the whole evening. Then on Sunday morning, we     8     (have) to return to Melbourne. I think we might be very tired but it must be absolutely worthwhile.

Eventually, it was not until 9: 30 a. m.     10     they reached their destination-Toronto. The whole journey took them four days.

The Great Wall was grand，a little rainy at first，but grand all the same. The mist covered the far end of the wall，    1     (give) it an almost mysterious feeling. The fog rolled in and out of the high mountains，revealing new parts of the wall as     2     (quick) as it covered them.I kept on walking，seeing watchtower after watchtower    3     my way. To my     4     (relieve) many people had decided today was not the best day     5     (climb) the wall，and I was there with very few people. I walked for    6    seemed like miles. Then I saw just how long the wall I was standing on stretched for.

It was     7     (end)！I walked and walked，but after every hill I climbed，there was another long stretch of wall. I eventually came to    8    long staircase. Later I found out that once it     9     (call) “Chairman Mao's Challenge”. I accepted，and after climbing the hundred plus stairs to the peak，I had to admit that the Great Wall truly lives up to its reputation. So if I    10     (have) another chance to travel to China，I would never hesitate to visit the Great Wall again.

The next morning the bushes and maple trees    1    their windows were red， gold and orange， and there was frost on the ground，    2    （confirm）that fall had arrived in Canada.

Around noon they arrived in Toronto， the biggest and     3    （much） wealthy city in Canada. They were not leaving for Montreal    4    later， so they went on a tour of the city. They went up the tall CN tower and looked across the lake. In    5    distance， they could see the    6    （mist） cloud that rose from the great Niagara Falls， which    7    （be） on the south side of the lake. The water flows into the Niagara river and over the falls on    8    （it） way to the sea.

They saw the    9    （cover） stadium， home of several famous basketball teams. As they walked north from the harbour area， Li Daiyu said， "Lin Fei， one of my mother's old schoolmates，    10    （live） here. I should phone her from a telephone booth. "

Traveling down the Yangtze River for 3 nights was     1     (complete) the most relaxing part of our China journey. When we arrived at the ferry terminal early in the morning, it was     2     (crowd) with people waiting to board the cruise boat. We watched the mountains go by when we     3     (travel) down the river. It was hot and foggy outside but was still one of the most beautiful     4     (landscape) I have ever seen.

During the cruise the dinner was delicious. There     5     (be) lots of different dishes. I enjoyed the food although the fish was so filled with bones that it was hard     6     (eat).

One of the sweet thing about the cruise was the morning alarm     7     was a beautiful Chinese tune.     8     started playing at 6:30am and continued for a whole hour. It was a lovely way to wake up on this     9     (peace) cruise.

The scenery down the Yangtze River is     10     unforgettable experience. I would do this again if I ever had the chance.

On Aug 12, I started the second day of my visit to the United States. My mother's old classmate,     1     has lived there for a while, came with me. I soon found that the US is    2     （true） a "nation on wheels”.

I spent most of my day     3    （ride） in the car. 1 could sec the endless land and lots of trucks going past. There are many gas stations along the road. They not only provide drivers    4     food, showers and beds, but also services like truck repair.

It's not just truck drivers on the country's roads, but many bikers can     5     （see） as well. They're called "Harley knights （骑士）"     6       most of their vehicles are Harley Davidson motorcycles. They have their luggage     7    （tie） to the backs of their bikes and ride through the broad lands of the US. The exciting music they listen to while riding their     8    （motorcycle） beats together with their young hearts. These bikers stand for the passionate （热情的）on-the-road spirit of the US. They long to be close to the road and enjoy     9    （they）. At one gas station, we     10    （meet） four "Harley knights" who were about 70 years old. I envy these bikers, as they are living such colorful lives.
