文章大意:这是一篇记叙文。文章主要讲述了Lauren Kornacki为了救被车压住的父亲,徒手举起了一辆车。最终父亲成功得救。

3 . Nearly two years ago, Lauren Kornacki, a recent college graduate, walked outside her family’s home in Virginia to ask her dad if she could borrow his car. As she rounded the corner from the front yard into the garage, Lauren, saw her father, Ale, lying unconscious, pinned on his back beneath his car. The car had fallen off the jack while he was changing the brake pads on the right rear tire.

Lauren yelled inside at her mother to call emergency services, and then ran to the car. “I thought, I’m going to lose my dad,” she says. Unsure of what to do, she stuck both hands under the wheel hub where Alec had removed the tire and pulled up with all her strength. To her surprise, she lifted the car. Then she held it up with one arm and, with the other, pulled her father out from under the car by his pants leg.

Alec wasn’t breathing, so Lauren, a lifeguard certified in CPR, began performing chest compressions. Within seconds, Alec took a breath and opened his eyes. “Stay with me,” Lauren whispered as they waited for the ambulance. “Just keep breathing.”

Doctors treated Alec for five fractured ribs, a fractured sternum, and fractured vertebrae, but he was able to return to his job as an IT professional two months later. 4 . 阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。

One cloudy day, Joe and his son, Joey, who was six, were polishing off sandwiches at a wildlife refuge. The father planned for the two of them to spend the day canoeing (划独木舟) in the huge swamp.

Joe had never ventured into the muddy waters before, which were famous for alligators (鳄鱼). He had researched what to do if they encountered one—just in case—bang the paddle against the boat to scare it off.

Joe was at the canoe rental counter, less than 6m from the water’s edge, when he heard a splash and a scream. Joey had slipped on long and soft grass at the edge of the water and fallen into the water. When Joe whipped around, he saw an alligator which was estimated to be at least 2.4m long and close to 90kg was about to attack.

Time seemed to stop as Joe ran toward his son and into the water, which was almost a meter deep. As Joey moved violently and screamed, Joe wrapped his left arm across the boy’s chest and began pulling him back toward the bank. With his right hand grabbing a paddle, Joe tried to scare off the alligator as hard as he could and it was like punching bricks. But the alligator didn’t even make a tiny step backward.

文章大意:本文是记叙文。本文讲述了Corion Evans和朋友晚上在河边散步时遇到一辆车落水,他和随后赶来的警察救了三个落水女孩儿的故事。

5 . It was around 11:30 p.m. Corion Evans was hanging out with his friends near the Pascagoula River in July when a car with three girls inside fell into it. It came to a stop some 20 feet from land, and then sank. The driver had blindly followed her GPS.

Evans and his friends got to the river’s edge. In the darkness, they could barely make out the girls holding on to the roof, the only part of the car still above water. But they could hear screaming. Evans pulled off his shirt and shoes, and then dived into the water, a river he knew alligators (短吻鳄) call home. He helped the first girl he saw, keeping her head above water and leading her ashore.

Just then, a man called out. Police Officer Garry Mercer arrived. He dived into the river to help another of the girls. But halfway back to shore, the girl had run out of her strength and went underwater, pulling Mercer down with her. Evans jumped back into the water and helped them until they could stand. “If he hadn’t been there, who knows?” Mercer said.

There was still one girl in the water, Cora Watson, who could not swim. She was struggling to keep herself floating (浮) on the water, scared. “I thought there was little hope that I would survive. I just knew my last breath was coming at that time,” Watson said. “My mind said ‘You’re slowly losing yourself.’” She began to go under. Then, a touch. “Evans had caught me.”

The three girls and Officer Mercer were taken to the hospital and soon they were discharged. After knowing Evans’ act, his mother, Marquita Evans, said, “Corion Evans broke his curfew (晚间必须回家的时间). But I was not mad. He had a good reason. And he did really well.”

A.The poor driving skills.B.The sudden appearance of passers-by.

文章大意:这是一篇记叙文。文章讲述了作者与Gabe在开车去看朋友的路上遭遇泥石流被冲下悬崖,最终获救并积极面对人生的故事。

7 . It was a long weekend in May 2018 and my partner Gabe Rosescu, and I were taking a road trip to go to Nelson, British Columbia and spend some time with our friends. We are both adventurous, and we couldn’t wait to go hiking and exploring. It was our first trip together.

At around 5:30 p. m. on Thursday, May 17, we were driving about 9 miles west of Creston, on a steep mountain road known as the Crowsnest Highway. I was texting updates to my family and enjoying the view. We weren’t aware that there’d recently been flooding in the area. When I looked up from my phone, I saw a wave of mud and a huge tree coming down the mountain, right in front of Gabe’s car. He tried to stop, but it was too late. The mudslide sent our car falling nearly 300 meters down a rocky cliff (悬崖) and our car landed on its side among some trees.

I didn’t know how long we were unconscious. But the body was amazing, and somehow we were both able to crawl (爬) out of the crashed car. We couldn’t get a signal on our cell phones, so all we could think to do was shout for help. After just a few minutes, we heard someone call back. Four passers-by spotted us and came to our rescue. When the emergency medical technicians finally got to our side, they loaded us into separate ambulances. I was in the hospital for a week and a half, but they kept Gabe for six weeks. I was told I would walk with a limp (跛行) for the rest of my life; Gabe permanently lost the vision in his left eye.

Before this all happened, we were happy-go-lucky people. We’re even more sanguine now. We look at everything differently. Despite the injuries we suffered, we’re grateful that we’re still living a pretty good life. The experience also bonded us more. We still go on road trips.

1. Why did the author and Gabe go to Nelson?
A.To go sightseeing.B.To visit their friends.
C.To join in a road trip.D.To look for adventure.
2. What is the second paragraph mainly about?
A.How the trip was planned.B.Which roads were kept to.
C.How the accident happened.D.What could be seen on the way.
3. What can we learn about the author and Gabe?
A.They both lost their phones.
B.They were both seriously injured.
C.They tried their best to keep conscious.
D.They were sent to hospital by passers-by.
4. Which of the following can best explain the underlined word “sanguine” in paragraph 4?
A.Optimistic.B.Fortunate.C.Adventurous.D.Carefree.
