During the summer vacation, a mother planned an exciting trip with her two children. They were set to explore a famous tourist spot, famous for its breath-taking landscapes and attractions. Little did they know that their adventure would take an unexpected turn.

As they arrived at the destination, they were greeted by a sea of people. The place was overflowing with tourists from all over the globe. Excitement filled the air as families began their sightseeing adventures, creating a lively and vibrant atmosphere.

Eager to begin their own adventure, the mother, holding the hands of her two children, dove into the crowd. However, among the crowded army of tourists, fate had its own plans in store. In the chaos of the massive crowd, the younger son, unaware of the chaos unfolding around him, somehow managed to wander off, unknowingly leaving his family behind.

Suddenly, the mother realized that her younger child was no longer beside her. Panic seized her heart, and a sense of helplessness occupied her. She desperately called out her son’s name, her voice trembling with fear. Tears streamed down her face as she scanned the vast sea of people for her son, but there was no sign of him.

In a state of despair, the mother sought assistance from fellow tourists. Compassionate minds instantly joined in the search, spreading word about the lost child throughout the area. Strangers joined in the search, their hearts filled with empathy for the anxious mother.

文章大意:这是一篇应用文。文章主要讲述了在处于拥挤或可能发生踩踏的环境中,可以帮助避免潜在的致命后果的几种策略。

6 . There have been several incidents at some events in recent years where people died because of stampedes (踩踏).     1     Indeed, it’s a frightening situation to be in and circumstances may make it impossible to escape. But there are several strategies that could help you avoid a potentially deadly outcome.

·Don’t panic and conserve your energy

Panicking will not help you free yourself from a developing stampede. Stay calm and focused.     2     If a stampede occurs, you’ll need all the physical energy you can muster.

·Keep pace with the crowd

If the crowd is moving in one direction, it’s best to go with the flow.     3     If the group becomes too tightly packed, you could run out of air for choking.

·    4

One potential way to handle the situation is to shield yourself and allow the crowd to move past you. Look for a solid structure to stand behind such as a pillar or a wall, or other places to hide: behind a car or even a lamppost.

·Guard your head

5     If you can’t, curl up on one side and protect your head. You do not want to be knocked unconscious in this situation.

Just remember to calm down, guard your head, and go with the flow of the crowd until you are able to safely escape.

A.Move away from barriers.
B.Find somewhere to protect yourself.
C.Yelling and screaming will tire you out.
D.You can use sign language to communicate with people around you.
E.If you happen to fall down in a large crowd, try to get up as quickly as possible.
F.Once you try to resist, the sheer density of the crowd behind you could crush you.
G.These may leave some people thinking there’s little you can do to survive a stampede.

The incident happened on Sunday at around 2:30 a.m. A car’s GPS system directed a group of teenage girls into the Pascagoula River. The car floated 25 yards into the river and then began to sink. The girls escaped to the vehicle’s rooftop where they shouted for help in fear. Corion Evans, a 16-year old high school student, heard their calls from nearby. Without a second thought, he immediately threw down his phone, removed his shirt and shoes, jumped into the river and swam out to them. His heroic act was soon reported and brought to the attention of the city government.

“I was just like, ‘I can’t let any of these folks die. They need to get out of the water’”, Corion recalled. “So, I just started getting them. I wasn’t even thinking about anything else.”

A strong and confident swimmer since childhood, Corion’s instincts (本能) kicked in when he heard the girls’ cries for help. With the vehicle nearly out of sight and completely sunk into the water, he knew the situation called for quick action. He focused on the task of pulling the girls to safety as quickly as possible. Corion helped calm the panicked girls when he reached the girls. He swam and guided the first two girls safely back to shore.

“I was behind them trying to keep them above water and swim with them at the same time,” Corion recalled.

The third girl did not know how to swim and had remained on the car roof. When Corion turned back to help her, Officer Gary Mercer had already arrived on scene to assist. He jumped into the river before pulling off his uniform. However, at one point Mercer was bringing the girl to shore, she began panicking and caused him to go under swallowing some water. Then Mercer began struggling to stay afloat due to the heavy weight of his uniform and equipment on him.

“I turned around. I saw the police officer,” Corion recalled. “He’s in trouble. He’s going underwater, drowning, shouting, ‘help!’”

The dramatic incident occurred during an afternoon hike. Four friends and teammates from Northwest College in Cody , Wyoming, had been hiking in the Montana national forest. As they hiked, a bear suddenly attacked the closest hiker Brady Lowry. “It shook me around and I didn't know what to do,” Brady recalled the terrifying attack. The bear shook him by the arm and then threw him away.

Brady's friend, Kendall Cummings, reacted quickly to try to scare the bear away. He yelled and kicked at the bear and pulled on the bear's fur. “I didn't want to lose my friend,” said Kendall.“I could have run and potentially lost a friend but I didn't do that. I thought I would get him off and save him.”

The bear turned its attention to Kendall and knocked him to the ground. In protecting his friend, Kendall became the target of the bear's forceful attack. Eventually, the other teammates scared the bear enough so that it soon withdrew and ran off.

After the attack, Kendall was badly injured, but he managed to pull himself up. The teammates then helped Kendall off the mountain by supporting his weight and carrying him part of the way. Once the boys reached a location with cell service, they dialed 911 for help.

After half an hour, some rescuers arrived at the scene. They examined Kendall and Brady and they were sent to Billings Clinic Hospital in a rush for their injuries. Brady broke his arm and suffered serious wounds in the initial attack. Kendall underwent surgery for more serious injuries on his face and arm. Both boys were on the road to recovery. Their wrestling coach, Jim Zeigler, arrived at the hospital along with the rest of the team to offer support.
