Wang Yaping is a member of China’s Shenzhou-13 mission. She is also the first woman to enter China’s space station. Why does she choose this job? Here’s her story.

Wang was born in a small village in Yantai, Shandong Province in 1980. She was good at sports and enjoyed running when she was a student. Her parents wanted her to be a teacher in the future.

Her space dream started in 2003 when China sent its first taikonaut Yang Liwei into space. “Now China has its first man in space, when can our country have its first woman?” thought Wang at that time.

In 2010, Wang became a taikonaut and a strong candidate (候选人) for China’s first fight by woman. However, she didn’t pass the final test. ______

In 2013, Wang’s space dream came true. She became a member of the Shenzhou-10 mission. During her 15-day mission, Wang gave China’s first lesson from space. It is said that she will give a second talk in the space station and encourage (鼓励) young people to go for their space dreams.

During the next few months, Wang and her teammates, Zhai Zhigang and Ye Guangfu, will carry out scientific experiments (试验) and space walks. Wang believes that they will finish the mission successfully.
