Britain is famous around the world for its rainy, weather, but many parts of the country this June are experiencing much more rain than before．

Heavy rains have caused rivers to burst     1     banks，roads have been closed and many people have been removed     2     their homes because of the floods．The worst hit area seems to be the north of England．There have even been deaths as people got stuck in the rain         3     were washed away by the floodwaters．Early     4    （warn）have been issued in many parts of the UK and it is said that over a month's worth of rain has fallen     5     just the last couple of days．

The rain has also caused troubles at some of Britain's famous June events．The Glastonbury festival is a four﹣day﹣long outdoor music festival and while it is traditionally quite     6    （rain）and muddy there，this year was     7    （particular）bad．It rained throughout     8     festival and with more than 170，000 people     9    （walk）around and camping on the ground；it didn't take long for the site to turn into a mud bath．

People can only hope     10     the rain will stop soon and the sun will come out， so they can eventually start to enjoy a nicer summer．

Beijing embraces second snow this winter. The second snowfall of Beijing hit the capital Sunday evening,     1     (affect) traffic routes and scenic areas on Monday.

Starting at about 7 pm on Sunday, the snow fell from the city’s south,     2     (gradual) covering the entire capital     3     turning to moderate snow Monday morning, according to the Beijing Meteorological Bureau. The snowfall ended at noon and the blue alert     4     (issue) for a blizzard (暴风雪) was removed in the afternoon.

More than 50,000 workers and over 6,500 snow removal     5     (vehicle) were set up     6     (ensure) road safety. Flights and subway lines, as well as bus routes, have been affected when     7     snow hit the capital.

On Sunday Beijing issued a blue alert for a blizzard, the first blizzard alert this winter. A yellow alert for     8     (ice) roads was issued as well. China has a four-tier color-coded weather warning system, with red representing the most severe, followed     9     orange, yellow and blue.

In late November, the capital     10     (experience) its first snow of the winter.

Every human culture, without exception as far as anyone can tell, produces some form of music. And yet the music     1     human cultures produce could hardly be more varied: From Italian opera to Croatian Klapa to Tuvan throat singing, the different types of music found in cultures around the world stand as a testament (证明) to the     2     (vary) of human creativity.

Music has no obvious adaptive function,     3     (make) scientists who study music wonder what forces originally gave rise to it. Is music an     4     (evolution) adaptation, or is it just a human invention? The argument never stops. The alternative is aimed     5     (search) for universals in music. This is what Sam Mehr, Director of the Music Lab at Harvard, and his colleagues are doing. By now, recording samples (样本) from 86   small societies     6     (collect) by them. They also played 14-second pieces of music     7     750 Internet users in 60 countries. They find listeners can correctly recognize whether a sample is from a dance song, a soft song or a love song. “It doesn’t seem to matter     8     the listeners are from,” says Dr. Mehr. “They all seem to agree with each other quite strongly. ”

What does that mean and why does it matter? “Any study that’s looking at comparisons of lots and lots of cultures, by     9     (it) nature, tells us something about human nature,” says Mehr. “It     10     (tell) us something about how all humans area like in some way.”

Now that the temperature is heating up, do you find yourself     1     (stare) at a sea of clothes in your cupboard, wondering what to wear? You may have a lot of choices, but which one is the     2     reasonable?

The idea of wearing dark clothes doesn’t make sense as heat hungrily goes into the clothes and     3     (cause) you to suffer a lot. But white clothes will lightly return the heat right off, and you’ll be more comfortable on a hot day.

    4     it certainly sounds great in theory, there are a few other factors at play that might be working against the old saying about the light clothes. At the very least, there’s some     5     (convince) evidence that says it doesn’t matter. Let’s start with some 1980 academic research from the journal “Nature,” titled “Why do Bedouins (贝都因人) wear black robes (长袍) in hot deserts?”

The researchers,     6     you can guess, were as confused as you and I by the fact that in serious heat, the people of the Sinai desert wear black robes instead of white.     7     they found was that the differences were zero when they tested white robes versus black.

They found that the black clothes did collect more heat, but that’s     8     it stayed. In other words, the black clothes take     9     additional heat, but that extra is lost by the time it actually gets to your skin. Is there a way more useful for keeping cool, however? The robes are loose to allow air to move.

There’s also an argument that the whole “light clothes” argument is missing a key element: the person who’s wearing the clothes. This means that the heat your body gives out will actually reflect off white clothing, returning to your body     10     (keep) you comfortably warm. Not a bad theory, but it’s not tested on humans.
