阅读下面短文,根据所给情节进行续写,使之构成一个完整的故事。

A rock is as big as a house. That’s how the guide book described Giant Rock. Dad said it was carried here by a glacier millions of years ago.

I was finally going to see it, on-snowshoes, with my three older cousins, my dad, and my uncle Don. I’d been snowshoeing before, and I liked the adventure of hiking through deep snow alongside wild-animal tracks. At the parking area, after putting on our snowshoes, we studied the map in the information kiosk(亭子). “We start here”, Dad said, “on the red path. Then we turn left onto the purple circle. That’s where Giant Rock is.” “Remember to stick together, guys,” Uncle Don said.

The path ran uphill alongside a stone wall. It was easy to follow because red markers were nailed to the trees and the snow had been packed down by other hikers. At the top of the hill, we turned onto the purple path, which wound back and forth, travelling through the hills and gullies. We settled into a rhythm, with Dad and everyone else in front and me in the back, crunch-crunch-crunching through the snow. My cousins were faster than I was, but I managed to keep up.

Finally, we reached a hill and saw the massive rock sitting alone in the forest. “It really is as big as a house” my cousin Josh said, gazing up. My cousins and I high-fived(举手击掌)each other and jogged down the slope until we stood at the base, breathless. Standing in the rock's giant shadow, I noticed the sun had dipped even lower. “Let’s head back,” Dad said after a few minutes.

Soon we were crunch-crunch-crunching our way home. I was a little behind the group when I noticed a set of animal tracks I didn’t recognize. I followed them off the path for a closer look. There were no claw marks, which meant they didn’t belong to a dog or a fox. Instead, they looked like tiny handprints and footprints. Must be a raccoon(小熊), I thought.

Steve grabbed his bat and glove. “See you later, Mom. I’m going to Paul’s.” With these words, he raced out the door and slammed (砰地关上) it behind him. Summer vacation just began. The boys planned to play baseball every day, so they could make the freshman team.

Seeing Paul waiting outside, Steve lifted his bat onto his shoulder and asked, “What are you doing? Where’s your stuff?” Paul shook his head, “I have to clean Mr. Thimpson’s garage before I can go. With his broken arm, he can’t do it himself. My mom always volunteers me to help the Thimpson’s. They’re kind of old.” “Okay,” said Steve. “I’ll help you. We’ll get done quicker working together.”

The boys went down the block to the Thimpson’s and got started. They put boxes that were scattered (散落) around the garage floor on shelves before they swept. As Paul lifted a big box onto a shelf, it fell off and with it fell an envelope. He picked up the envelope and found it wasn’t sealed. He opened it, inside which were lots of one hundred dollar bills. Gasping in astonishment, Paul pulled out a handful of bills and showed them to Steve.

“Where did you get that?” asked Steve. Paul pointed to the shelf, explaining, “It just fell down when the box fell. There’s got to be a couple of thousand dollars here.” He looked past Steve to the opening garage door. “Nobody is around. If I take some, I bet no one will ever know,” added Paul, uncontrollably picturing the bat and glove in McGroger’s Sports Store that he had longed for.

Steve frowned and shook his head. “Are you crazy? That’s stealing.” “Well, I do a lot of chores for them and don’t get paid. It’s not really stealing; it’s kind of payment for my hard work.” Paul defended himself. “Forget about it. You’re better than that.” Steve grabbed the money from Paul’s hand, stuffed it back in the envelope and put the envelope back on the shelf. “Come on! Let’s get done and go to the park,” Steve urged.

The fourth Thursday in November is called Thanksgiving Day, which has been one of the most important festivals in the United States. The theme is thankfulness for peace and happiness of family life during the past year. People usually eat roast turkey and pumpkin pie to celebrate the holiday.

There are always moving stories about Thanksgiving Day. Though the stories have different leading roles, the topics of them are the same: showing the sincere appreciation to their loved people, such as parents, siblings(兄弟姊妹),friends, teachers and so on.

I also have a moving story that happened on Thanksgiving Day. At first it sounded like a thanksgiving story, but the more I reflected on it, the more appropriate it seemed for any time of the year. The story went like this: when Thanksgiving Day was coming, a teacher gave her class an interesting task-to draw a picture of something for which they were thankful.

Most of the class might be considered economically disadvantaged, but still many would celebrate the holiday with turkey, corn, pumpkins and other traditional things of the season, like all of those symbols drawn on the holiday decorations and greeting cards. These, the teacher thought, would be the subjects of most of her students art.

All students drew their pictures as the teacher thought, except one boy-Peterson. He made a different kind of picture. Peterson seemed to be a strange student in the class. As other children played during break, he usually chose to quietly stand close by the teacher's side. They didn't know what had ever happened to him and nobody could guess how Peterson felt behind his sad eyes. He didn't like to play with the other students nor talk with them.

When the little boy was asked to draw a picture of something for which he was thankful, he drew a hand. There was nothing else but an empty hand on the picture. It was different from other pictures.

Gramma Goodie visits her grandkids every Sunday afternoon. Every visit starts the same. First she rings the doorbell. Then Chris bounces down the stairs. Jamie runs to open the door. And every time, Gramma Goodie has gifts. But the kids never know what she'll bring.

Sometimes it's stuff you need, like socks or underwear. It could be a kite or a stuffed baby kangaroo. It could be a lollipop that turns your tongue bright blue.

Well, one Sunday, Gramma rang the doorbell. Chris hurried down the stairs. And Jamie threw open the door.

“Hello, my darlings,” Gramma Goodie said with a smile. “Look what I have for you” She pulled out a deck of cards, and they played “Go Fish” all afternoon. At the end of the day, Gramma gave everyone kisses. Then she said her good-byes.

As she drove away, Chris and Jamie heard their parents talking. They said that Gramma Goodie's birthday was next Sunday. They were going to plan a special dinner and bake a delicious cake for her birthday surprise.

“Gramma Goodie has a birthday?” they thought. Both were a little confused. Grown-ups have birthdays? Who in the world knew? “Well, we have to get her a gift,” Jamie decided. “But what?” asked Chris. “Gramma Goodie has absolutely EVERYTHING!”

Jamie thought about scarves, flowers, and perfume. But Gramma had plenty of scarves, a humongous rose garden, and bottles of French perfume. Chris thought about books, pillows, and a flute.

A diary? She had one. An umbrella? She had that, too. A radio? There's one in her kitchen. Oh, what would Chris and Jamie do? They spent all week thinking. They thought in math class. They daydreamed during recess. They thought themselves to sleep! Nothing came to mind.
