The counter person was telling everyone that all the planes were having problems and they would not be able to fly! And it was suggested that a bus would be provided to take us to Seattle. Everyone was worried, as we only had an hour and a half to make the connecting flight, and the bus was not even at the airport yet.
Finally, the bus pulled up, and the driver said, “They just pulled me out of bed after an all-night shift, and they expect me to get you to Seattle in time to catch your fight. Good luck!”
Needless to say, everyone was in a really bad mood. I was loading my baggage into the bus and had hung my banjo (班卓琴) over my back when the bus driver said, “What? Are you going to play that on my bus?” “Well, I really did not plan on it,” I replied.“I was only kidding,”said the driver. But I started thinking about it, and I pulled out the banjo. A worried, angry woman said, “Well, what if I don’t like it?” “Then tell me and I’ll stop,” I replied.
We drove off, and the tension made the atmosphere inside the bus horrendous! Then I started performing the old standard Blue Skies. In a few minutes, I noticed everyone was singing along. I started to sing, too, and before long, the whole bus burst into song.
One song led to another. Everyone laughed and sang, with food passed around the bus, and before long, the airport was in sight.
The bus driver called, “We made it! We never would have done it without the help of our banjo player.” Shouts of approval rang through the bus. People exchanged addresses and invitations to visit, and a few even exchanged hugs.
A few weeks later, my mailbox was filled with letters from my new friends. Their letters reminded me of how, by reaching out with just a song or a bit of friendship, you can turn a very tense situation into a peaceful experience.

There are 18 electric vehicle models for sale in the U. S. The research group IHS Markit expects that number to grow to 80 by 2022. New vehicles will include pickup trucks and SUVs that are popular with American buyers.
Last year, electric vehicles made up only 1.5 percent of new vehicle sales worldwide. Auto Industry research company LMC Automotive predicts that will rise to 2.2 percent this year. In the U.S., electric vehicles were only 1.2 percent of sales in 2018. It is expected to be the same this year. Automakers, however, see room for growth. They note that electric vehicles are getting 250 miles or more on a single charge. That means a buyer no longer needs to worry about running out of power during a day’s usual drive. Because of the added models and increased power, LMC predicts that they will make up 17 percent of worldwide sales and 7 percent of U.S. sales in 2030.
The first-generation of electric vehicles were simply existing models that were changed to be electric to meet government fuel economy rules. They did not sell well largely because they could not travel more than 100 miles between charges. But now, many can go farther than the average one-day driving distance. The five-passenger Mach-E looks like a traditional Mustang. Engineers say the least costly model will be able to travel about 370 kilometers on one charge. The most costly model will be able to travel 483 kilometers.
Some experts say the Mustang Mach-E marks the start of an increase in electric vehicles offered by top U. S. carmakers. However, some are not so positive. Stephanie Brinley, an auto expert for IHS Markit, said electric vehicle choices may expand before demand. “There is likely to be a period where the number of choices will increase faster than demand and sales for each will be low,” she said.
1. What is IHS Markit’s expectation of the electric vehicle?A.It has more models. | B.It goes on sale soon. |
C.It is more environment-friendly. | D.It is more popular with customers. |
A.There will be increasing demand for SUVs. |
B.There will be large growth space for their sales. |
C.There will be more pressure on their power supplies. |
D.There will be more competition between automakers. |
A.By giving examples. | B.By introducing new ideas. |
C.By following time order. | D.By making comparisons. |
A.Positive. | B.Unclear. | C.Doubtful. | D.Indifferent. |

Although the business patterns may differ, airlines have much in common. When an airline carries passengers, it establishes many regular routes along with a regular schedule. Passengers can walk to the ticket-selling halls in the airline to buy tickets.
Goods-carrying airlines also typically follow a regular schedule through many set routes that are planned to efficiently move packages from one place to another. But different from passenger-carrying airlines, they’re more likely to be equipped with trucks. Why?
Whether sending people or goods, air travel is a rapid and efficient way and has made great progress. Compared with before, prices dropped, making it a reasonably affordable way of travel.

B.In fact, air travel involves many dangers. |
C.And now they can also buy tickets online. |
D.Different airlines operate in different ways. |
E.And prices can drop further on certain holidays. |

Emily Marik’s Salmon Bowl
Made with rice, baked salmon, soy sauce and spicy mayo—and to be clear, there are a lot of different variations of it online—this passes Rissetto’s test because it’s healthy, fast, easy and has good flavor.
Rissetto says that while she would recommend this recipe, she would also suggest changing the white rice for brown rice for increased nutrients and more fiber.
Healthy Cookie Dough
Cookie dough that’s healthy? This is too good to be true, right? The answer is probably yes. Rissetto says that while this may be healthy, it probably doesn’t taste good.
“I’m certain this tastes like cardboard,” she said, “If you don’t care about taste—then this is for you.”
Lettuce Water For Sleep
While harmless, the TikTok trend of pouring boiling water over romaine lettuce leaves to make “lettuce water” for better sleep probably won’t cure your sleep disorder—and it probably doesn’t taste great, either.
“This is not a thing. There’s no evidence to prove it,” Rissetto said. “Instead, steep a banana peel in boiling water to help aid with sleep.”
Nature’s Cereal
As Rissetto points out, it’s basically a fruit smoothie bowl.
“I am all for having berries and coconut water she said,” Nutrition-wise, this has lots of vitamins, antioxidants and fiber. It’s basically a fruit salad that would be super refreshing on a hot day or post-workout.”

Venice
This iconic city is sinking rapidly. The canals that make up the streets of Venice rise 2 mm every year, making relics of history go under the surface of water and destroying architecture. Experts warn that without intervention, this city will disappear back into the water at an even faster rate, consumed by rising sea level from melting polar ice caps.
Machu Picchu
These Incan ruins have drawn adventurous tourists into the mountains of South America. The forces of natural erosion have been accelerated by tourism and this landmark laces severe influence from increasing foot traffic. The Peruvian government suggested a cable car that would cut out the intense hike up to the ruins, making the site instantly accessible to millions, but the future of Machu Picchu remains uncertain.
Glacier National Park
Perhaps you've heard that the ice caps are melting. But nowhere is more apparent in the United States than in Glacier National Park. Estimates indicate that the glaciers that are part of the beauty of this national landmark will disappear entirely in the next two decades.
The Great Barrier Reef
Unfortunately, hidden from view beneath the waves, the Great Barrier Reef has been rapidly dying off. Nearly fifty percent of coral which once occupied a large area is gone, destroyed by pollution and disease.

Andrea Pien, a 33-year-old teacher at a high school in California, worked at home because the state’s schools were closed. She had meetings with her students using Google Hangouts. As someone who received great wealth from her father, she believed it was important to give back — especially when times were tough. So far, she has given away about $400 to her neighbors and expects more to come.
Pien is a member of Resource Generation, an organization of “young people with wealth”, who work on the distribution (分发) of wealth, land and power. At first, she was advised to do so by her friend Jonah, whom she met through the group. She quickly started on Facebook but realized that many of her Facebook friends were people she grew up with. So she posted on Nextdoor and soon her neighbors got in touch with her. They didn’t get a regular paycheck or have much money. “Many people are workers in restaurants or the service industry or bars, and their hours have been cut,” she said.
When a reporter asked Pien if there was anything she wanted to share as this crisis (危机) arose, here was what she had said: “I hope that by doing creative things on Nextdoor, I can influence people to do similar things in their communities. By doing so, we will get through the hard time together.”
