One-day adventure (冒险) course

This is a chance you have been waiting for. Come and try sailing, climbing and surfing (冲浪). This course is trying to introduce outdoor activities to adults in a fun way. You do not need to be very fit or to have had experience of the activities. All you need is to be interested.

Play Park

The Play Park is suitable for children from 2 to 10 years of age. It is one of the best of its type in the country. It has sand and water play, large ball pool, play castle and much, much more.

Group day and weekend courses

We also offer day and long weekend courses for groups. We receive regular visits from schools and colleges There are three large rooms with twelve beds in each, which can be booked beforehand for groups of up to 36 people (12 at least).

Summer adventure holiday (for 8—14 years of age)

Safety is of great importance at the Outdoor Centre. All our workers are fully trained in first aid (急救) , and able to teach the activities on offer. We also make certain that all children only take part in activities that are suitable for their age and physical abilities. For this programme children must be able to swim 25 metres and be in good physical health.

BOOKING YOUR CRUISE

Most tourists prefer small cruise lines that dock in downtown Hamilton. It’s an ideal destination since it’s right on Front Street, from where you can easily get to Hamilton, the capital of Bermuda, and other parts of the island. Large cruise lines dock at Royal Navy Dockyard, which is inconveniently situated at the far western end of the Island.

Getting off a small cruise, you can easily go to Hamilton and other places by bus. From Royal Navy Dockyard, you can take a bus, a taxi or a boat. The most saving way of travelling around is by buying a day’s pass. You will enjoy unlimited transportation services using any public means.

This is a popular attraction that you have to tour. Anyone who loves to explore caves will definitely enjoy this place. You’d better wear sports shoes as some caves are a bit wet and slippery.

Beaches of Bermuda

Your trip to Bermuda is surely incomplete without spending some time at the amazing pink-sand beaches. Try Tobacco Bay and Horseshoe Bay, which are suitable for family visits. Bermuda is the world’s most famous shipwreck (沉船) site. If you’re a good diver, there are too many shipwrecks waiting to be discovered.

Sea Glass

If you want to pass time doing something for fun, head straight to the Alexander battery beach to collect lots of sea glass.

As of April, 2020, however, none of that is happening due to the outbreak of the novel coronavirus（新型冠状病毒）.

Saminah Haddad, a seventeen-year-old senior at Long Beach Polytechnic High School, wasn’t expecting her college offers until later in the spring. This year, there will be no spring season, which for Haddad means no four-year college. She is considering Long Beach City College, which is free for state residents. She also lost her job at an amusement park. All of the senior-year milestones that Haddad had been looking forward to have been cancelled: prom, graduation, and an event called the “Pursuit of Excellence Awards,” where she would have been recognized for perfect attendance. She doesn’t yet know if she’ll still be working this summer for her father, who was about to open a juice bar in Brooklyn.

In the meantime, Haddad’s school is offering some online instruction, but in her case the course load has dropped to just two classes: A.P. Literature, which meets virtually, and a government class, which consists of written assignments that she receives by e-mail. Haddad is planning to take her A.P. exam, though she finds it hard to imagine what the forty-five-minute, cell-phone-friendly version of the test will be like. No one knows how colleges will view it, either.

Life has been emptied of content, and the plot is lost. She texts with friends. She argues with her mom and stepdad a lot. “It’s bringing us closer together,” she half joked. “But it’s O.K.”

However, more than thirty years later, the “white bike’ is back in town--this time with a computer chip（芯片） to record its every move! To take a bicycle, you have to insert(插入) a special card. The new “ white bike” is not actually white but is an unusual design with bright colours. The bikes are parked at special parking places and people who want to use them have to take them to another special parking place that has enough room.

There is already less traffic in central Amsterdam, because both locals and tourists have been using the white bikes. Instead, thanks to the good ideas of lots of people, like the cycling fans in the 1960s, many people around the world have been enjoying city centre streets without cars many years.

At last I came to America. Everywhere there was English! But even if I heard and felt its presence, it was hard for me to understand it and express myself in it. After a month, I tried again, but this time at college. After 15 minutes of introducing ourselves, a teacher gave us a lecture about the history of English. Then we were told that it was very important to know English in an English-speaking country. It took three hours for the teacher to tell us this. Again, I quit.

But I didn’t stop looking for something or someone that would help me to achieve my goal, and I found a tutor from Literacy Volunteers of America. But I still wasn’t happy with the classes. And when it was my turn to give a speech, I was happy to use all the long, complicated words that I had learned from one of my English books. When I had finished, my tutor said “Well, I think I have to learn English before coming to teach you!” This time, the tutor quit!

【推荐3】The negative health effects of sleep shortages during the week can't be changed by marathon weekend sleep, according to a new study.

Researchers have long known that regular sleep deprivation (缺乏）can cause weight gain and increase other health risks, including diabetes. But there are still some people who hope that shutting off the alarm on Saturday and Sunday will repay the weekly sleep debts and remove any ill effects.

The research, published in Current Biology, ruins those hopes. Despite complete freedom to sleep in and nap during a weekend recovery period, participants in a sleep laboratory who were limited to five hours of sleep on weekdays gained nearly three pounds over two weeks and experienced a metabolic disorder(新陈代谢紊乱）that would increase their risk of developing diabetes over the long term. Although weekend recovery sleep has some benefits after a single week of lack of sleep, those gains from weekend disappear when people return to the former sleep schedule the next Monday.

“If there are benefits of recovery sleep, they're gone when you are back to your routine. It's very short-lived,” said Kenneth Wright, who oversaw the research. “These health effects are long-term. It's kind of like what smoking once was——people would smoke and wouldn't see an immediate effect on their health, but over time people will finally say that smoking is not a healthy lifestyle choice. I think staying up late is in the early stage of where smoking used to be.”

Wright said that the study suggested people should guarantee a healthy sleep routine——cutting out the optional “sleep stealers” such as watching television shows or spending time on electronic devices. Even when people have no choice due to child-care responsibilities or job schedules, they should make sure enough sleep time. They can always leave the less important stuff until the next day. After all, well-being comes first.
