People have been enjoying the benefits of cycling(骑自行车) in Amsterdam(阿姆斯特丹) for years. It is a good city for cycling because it is flat and there are plenty of places for bicycle parking. Today some people call Amsterdam “City of Bicycles” because of the convenience for bicycles there.
In the 1960s, a group of cycling fans had an idea. They believed that it would be better for everybody if cars weren’t allowed in the city center and only bicycles were. They were hopeful that this would help to save energy, reduce pollution and provide free public transport. The group painted hundreds of bicycles white and placed them in lots of neighborhoods around Amsterdam for people to use. Then a problem came-- thieves took all the bicycles within weeks!
However, more than thirty years later, the “white bike’ is back in town--this time with a computer chip(芯片) to record its every move! To take a bicycle, you have to insert(插入) a special card. The new “ white bike” is not actually white but is an unusual design with bright colours. The bikes are parked at special parking places and people who want to use them have to take them to another special parking place that has enough room.
There is already less traffic in central Amsterdam, because both locals and tourists have been using the white bikes. Instead, thanks to the good ideas of lots of people, like the cycling fans in the 1960s, many people around the world have been enjoying city centre streets without cars many years.

Electric vehicles
For those who have a short commute, you could consider getting an electric bike or scooter. An electric scooter has the advantage of being highly portable (轻便的): small and light enough to carry to your office. You’ll just need to check if it is allowed to be used in your area.
Take RYNO for example. It’s a single-wheel electric scooter, whose highest speed is about that of a bicycle. And like other electric vehicles, it can be charged anywhere.
WalkCar
If you want transportation for short distances, the WalkCar might be perfect for you.
The WalkCar looks like a laptop and only weighs three kilograms. It’s also incredibly easy to use — stand on it and it will start to move; move your weight to one side and it will change its direction. The WalkCar will take you at a speed of up to 10 kilometers per hour and can travel 12 kilometers on one charge.
Jetpacks
Weighing around 200 kilograms, jetpacks aren’t exactly portable, but they’re sure to have a lot of fun and attract a lot of attention. Running on petrol, the jet engines allow the users to lift off from the ground and fly in the air.
The world’s first jetpack is the Martin Jetpack. Once you’ve attached this tiny personal jet plane onto your back, you’ll be able to travel up to 50 kilometers at a height of 1,000 meters. With a price tag of about $150,000, this is probably the most expensive option, but it will almost certainly be the coolest!

Although it may seem confusing to mess with the simplicity of a bicycle, e-bikes are actually the perfect fit for a variety of circumstances, including living in a hilly area, looking for a greener transportation alternative or just to make riding a bike more fun. Here are four typical models of e-bikes.
Best for a tight budget: Schwinn Monroe 250
Not interested in breaking the bank? Try Schwinn’s Monroe 250. It’s an urban rider with a single speed and is great for zipping across town or around campus. It lasts up to 50 miles and requires a five-hour battery charge from zero. Plug it in before bed, and you’re golden in the morning.
Best for the tech-savvy: Specialized Turbo Vado
Specialized’s entry-level Turbo Vado 2.0 comes equipped with a customized touchscreen smart computer. With it, you can control the assist mode and connect through Bluetooth to the Specialized Mission Control app.
The app lets you map out your ride, and then the motor will adjust to that specific distance so you never have to worry about the battery dying mid-route. It also offers direction and diagnostics and stores your ride history and personal preferences.
Best for all-around use: Cannondale Quick Neo
For those who want a does-it-all option, the Cannondale Quick Neo is your best bet. It was designed for people who lead active lifestyles but may not be “cyclists”.
The Quick Neo has three assist modes — eco, normal and high — and the battery lasts up to 70 miles before it needs a four-hour recharge. It also has front suspension, so it’ll handle bumps, pot-holes and even dirt paths well, and its brakes make it easier to stop if the weather gets wet.
Best for replacing a car: Trek Super Commuter+
If you live in a big city and owning a car is not an option, then the Super Commuter+ could be for you. It’s expensive, but less expensive than most cars when you allow for the amount of money you spend on gas, maintenance, insurance, parking or public transportation, an e-bike is a more economical choice for urban citizens looking for a new way to get around.
With four assist modes, it can go up to 28 mph and as far as 120 miles on a battery that takes just three to five hours to charge, so it’s basically like the Ferrari of e-bikes.
1. If you are not an experienced cyclist, which of the following might be your best choice?A.Schwinn Monroe 250. | B.Specialized Turbo Vado. |

And red tourism will be more popular during the National Day Golden Week holiday.
Ticket bookings for red tourism sites in June increased by five times with local and short trips to red tourism sites being the choice of about 88 percent of such tourists. And the search for the term “red tourism” on Mafengwo, a Chinese travel service and social-networking platform, increased by 300 percent during the summer holidays.
Red tourism is not only about the joy of visiting a new place and taking in the wonderful sights. It is also about gaining knowledge about history and being inspired by the stories of the people who gave their lives to the founding of the People’s Republic in 1949 and worked for the wellbeing of the Chinese people. By rediscovering history and passing on the stories of the Chinese revolution and its heroes to the next generations, people can uplift their spirit.
Red tourism can also be used as an opportunity to develop rural(农村的)areas because most of the revolutionary bases and red tourism sites are in the countryside. It can raise the incomes of local people, Since red tourism creates jobs and helps increase farmers’ incomes, it can develop local development.
Data show that in the first half of 2022, more than 30 percent of all tourists visited red tourism sites in rural areas, which was 10 percent more than the last year. Yet red tourism faces certain developmental problems, mainly because some local government officials have failed to make the best use of red tourism resources for local development.

Cats don’t always cry because of being hungry for food. Because cats are social animals, they cry because they want to have company. Cats may not cry every time but they may chatter or mumble. It’s really scary to hear cats chattering like old women. They should be listened and one must talk back.
Meow does not mean that the cat is crying but it is simply a greeting. A cat’s cry may depend on what it is looking for; it can be championship or other things. Cats may cry because of boredom on rare occasions. Cats also need rest and recreation. Cats get stressed when they are ignored. It can be given a name and called, it can be given a pat on the head, but it should not be kicked when it wraps itself around its master’s leg.
A cat follows its master around because of a connecting feeling. Cats look upon its master as a second mother. Even if a cat is old, they never ignore the feeling of being attended and cared for.
Cats use a variety of sounds like mimicking to communicate with one another. They are very moody and they can’t be made like oneself all the time. They have different body language signs which you can tell by the way their tail, ears, paws and body are positioned.
There are many ways by which a cat can be stopped from crying like setting up playful activities with the cat, not ignoring it, taking it to a walk and feeding it regularly. A cat knows how to take advantage of its master’s feelings because they can read them.

That might sound like an impossible dream, but Bexler turned it into a reality.
In December 2015, he and a team of Australian and American scientists ventured into an isolated tropical rain forest on the island of New Guinea. They were the first people ever to enter the mist-covered region.“As time was limited,we were dropped in by helicopter. Once we were on the ground, there were no trails anywhere; it was really hard to get around,” Bexler says.
Within minutes of landing, the team spotted a black chicken-like bird with strange orange skin hanging from its neck. The scientists soon determined that the unusual creature was a type of honeyeaters — the first new bird species to be sighted on New Guinea in 60 years.
The honeyeater wasn’t the only surprise for the scientists. They discovered more than 40 previously unknown plant and animal species — 13 birds of paradise, 20 frogs, four butterflies, and five palms.“We were like kids in a candy store,” Bexler recalls.“Everywhere we looked, we saw amazing things we had never seen before.”
The newfound species didn’t shy away from the scientists. Two long-nosed echidnas — primitive egg-laying mammals — let the visitors pick them up and take them back to camp to study them. An echidna looks like a hedgehog and is also called a spiny anteater.
Bexler thinks the animals weren’t scared because they had never seen humans before.“In almost all parts of New Guinea, animals are hunted for food, and because of this, they are very cautious of people,” he explains.“This area gives scientists a place where they can go to study the behaviours of animals that have not yet learned to be afraid of people.”
Scientists believe the area is probably the largest untouched forest in Asia. Local people called Kwerba hunt and collect plants from the outer-edges of the forest but told Bexler that not even their ancestors had gone so far into the woods. The wooded area is approximately a 10-day walk from the nearest village.
Bexler and his team did not have enough time during the expedition to study the area completely. They hope to return and expect to record many more undiscovered species. “We just scratched the surface,” Bexler says.“Anyone who goes there will come back with a mystery.”

The young boy came up with the idea after watching village residents, who do not have easy access to running water, struggling to find an effective way to wash their hands to avoid spreading and getting COVID-19.
Using the few resources available for him to use — wooden pieces, nails, and a bucket — Stephen designed and built a simple but effective cleansing station. The clever creation consists of two pedals (踏板) — one to release soap and the other to release water — enabling villagers to wash their hands without physical contact, therefore reducing the likelihood of getting the awful infectious disease.
"I had bought some pieces of wood to make a window, but when I came back home after work one day, I found that Stephen had made the machine," his father, James, told the BBC. "The concept was his, and I helped tighten the machine. I'm very proud. Janies credits Stephen's building heroism to the village school's integrated (综合的) courses that teaches children to put together and construct items from a very young age.
The invention, which drew Widespread attention after James posted a photo on Facebook, has made Stephen an instant celebrity (名人) in Kenya In early June 2020, the country's leader. President Uhuru Kenyatta, presented the nine-year-old with the Uzalendo Award. The newly-created presidential honor is designed to acknowledge civilians who are making significant contributions towards the nation's fight against COVID-19.
Stephen has also been promised a full scholarship to a school that can match his creative talent, by Bungoma County Governor. Though thrilled at the unexpected fame and success, Stephen is not resting on his honors. The young boy has already built another hand washing machine and plans on adding several more, so that the village which has no reported cases of the infectious disease, can remain COVID-19 free!
