After a long summer holiday, my new life at senior high school     1    (begin) at last. I was a little     2     (anxiety) in the morning,     3     (worry) that I would not make new friends. For thousands of years, people have told fables (寓言) in     1     attempt to teach a lesson or to pass on wisdom. Fables were part of the oral tradition of many early cultures with the well-known Aesop’s fables     2    (date) to the sixth century, B.C. Yet, the form of the fable still has values today, as Rachel Carson says in “A Fable for Tomorrow.”

Carson uses a simple, direct style common to fable. In fact, her style, as well as tone (口吻), seemingly     3    (satisfy) the children. “There was once a town in the heart of America, where all life seemed     4    (enjoy) peaceful co-existence with is surroundings.” Her fable begins, with some familiar words    5     (adapt) from many age-old fables. The first “Window of Chinese Books” in Europe was launched on Tuesday, with an online book donation ceremony from China’s Jinling Library to Malta Libraries.

Jinling Library has always focused on using books     1     a bridge to understanding of Chinese culture for global     2     (citizen). Jinling Library, founded in 1927, established    3     (it) first “Window of Chinese Books” overseas in Nigeria in 2013. There will be more in the future.

I love reading. At age 6, I could be found reading Harry Potter, a difficult book for a 6-year-old but I     1    (enjoy) it all the same.     2     soon became obvious that spelling for me was not difficult and I had a wide vocabulary. This is one way I benefited     3     reading at such a young age.

My advice for you as English learners would be to read the English novels     4     you have often read in your native language. Reading novels is a great way of     5    (improve) your vocabulary and spelling without realising it as you are absorbed（全神贯注的）in the storyline. You know the sorry well, so its     6    (usual) easy to follow it in English even if you do not understand every word.

This is another essential（基本的）point: it’s not necessary     7    (understand) every word. If you understand the     8    (mean) of the sentence, each word is not necessarily important. Quite often, if a word is used several times in a text, you’ll gradually get an idea of     9     it means.
