The Tianwen-1 orbiter launched from the island province of Hainan     3     July 23 and entered Mars orbit in February. The rover, Zhurong,     4     is named after the Chinese god of fire, set down on the red planet on Saturday morning.

China is the second country after the United States     5     (place) a rover on the surface of Mars. The former Soviet Union landed a probe on Mars in 1971, but lost contact immediately.

The rover descended (下降) from the orbiter via entry capsule,     6     (lower) by parachute before jettisoning (投弃) its outer shield and using a retrorocket (反向火箭) to land. Geng Yan, with the Lunar Exploration and Space Program Center at the CNSA, said the rover’s descent took about 9 minutes and     7     (perform) autonomously.

“Each step had only one chance, and the actions were     8     (close) linked. If there had been any flaw, the landing     9     (fail),” he told state-run media Xinhua.

Then it is cooled down and falls back to the lunar surface,     3    (form) beads (珠子) of glass. The Chang’e 5 probe,     4     returned to Earth on Dec 17, 2020, brought back     5     total of 1,731 grams of rocks and soil from the lunar surface, including glass beads.

After looking into the glass beads from the sample, the international research team     6    (find) that about one ton of glass beads may contain 0.5 kilograms of water. Hui Hejiu, one of the study authors said, “This ‘water’ wasn’t a liquid     7     instead took the form of hydrogen (氢气). The hydrogen     8    (contain) in the glass beads can     9    (easy) be turned into the water we can use.” If the water in the beads is easy to get, it will be a “really big deal” for deep space     10    (explore) missions in the future.

Three scientists, Roger Penrose, Reinhard Genzel and Andrea Ghez,     2     helped uncover the details about black holes, shared this year's Nobel Prize in Physics.

Black holes are massive objects whose gravitational field is so strong     3     nothing can escape it, not even light. At their centers, the laws of physics stop making sense.

No question, these objects are mysterious. Fortunately, the full picture gets clearer than before with scientists     4    ( continuous) working on them. Penrose eventually performed mathematical     5    ( calculation) that showed black holes were not just mathematical ideas     6    ( suggest) by

Einsteins theory but that they could form in conditions which are likely to exist in the universe. Using the world’s largest telescopes, Genzel and Ghez each lead astronomers who , since the early 1990s,    7    (focus) on a region called Sagittarius A * (人马座 A 星)at the centre of our galaxy. They     8           ( develop) methods to see through the huge clouds of interstellar (星云)gas and dust     9     the centre of the Milky Way.
