Augmented Reality (扩增实境), or AR, is a     1     (combine) of real-world images and computer generated ones. When the AR function was first released for testing, the AR feature started when the user     2     (raise) their phone to eye level. Instead of the     3     (tradition) overhead map, the user saw the live feed from the phone’s camera.     4     the bottom of the screen was a section with the familiar map view. Superimposed (叠加) on the camera image was a glowing series of arrows displaying the next way to turn. The VPS, or Visual Positioning System, uses location points accumulated through the image database     6     (collect) by Google Street View. By comparing those points to the real-time image captured by a phone using Google Maps AR, the phone’s location can be determined without satellite signals. To keep you from walking around while     7     (stare) at your phone, Maps AR has a safety feature. After     8     short time, the app will remind you to put your phone down. If Maps AR     9     (leave) active for too long, the screen will go dark. If Maps AR proves to be     10     safe and useful, you might just see more AR applications in the near future.

Smartphones are becoming more and more of a necessity for high school students.
