As artificial intelligence(AI) systems become more advanced, we can expect them to be used more often in the world of human medicine and healthcare. AI is designed to imitate(模仿) the human brain in decision making and learning, so with the computing power to learn tasks in days or even hours, it is possible to create medical AIs that rapidly outperform doctors in certain tasks.

Data plays a hugely important role in helping AI systems learn about human medicine. AI systems are trained on large data sets gathered from real-life cases. Providing detailed patient information in quantities is a crucial factor for their success.

One of the most important areas for influencing global health is in the field of epidemiology(流行病学)。 Predicting disease outbreaks can save millions of lives by having resources ready should the worst happen. Startup AIME has successfully combined public health data with machine learning and AI to create a prediction engine capable of anticipating epidemics months in advance with great accuracy.

Another field where medical AIs are making rapid advances is in diagnostics(诊断学)。Doctors base a lot of decisions on information from X-ray, CT and MRI images. Speeding up. diagnoses from patient scans can rapidly improve patient care and outcomes. Computer vision AIs use pattern recognition to work through these images with incredible speed and accuracy. They have been able to outperform junior doctors and even senior specialists in some tests.

Cardiologist(心脏科医生)Rima Arnaout developed an AI that beat human experts at correctly interpreting echocardiograms(超声心动图)by 92 percent to 79 percent. She said that despite the result there is no prospect of AI replacing human doctors any time soon. “As cardiologists, we read the images and then go to see the patient,” she said. “So we're both reading images and practicing medicine. I don't think that the second piece will be taken over so quickly. ”

The acceptance of AI in medicine will continue to gather pace in the future as it becomes more widespread.

A.They do better than doctors in some tests.
B.They speed up diagnoses from patient scans.

文章大意:本文是说明文。随着严重干旱状况在全球的蔓延,未来的水危机可能会更快、更剧烈。文章主要讲述了解决水危机的创新性的方法。

【推荐1】“If you think the oil wars are bad, wait until the water wars begin.”

Ron Jones, president of Green Builder Media, recently made this alarming prediction. With severe drought conditions expanding across the globe, the future water crisis he warns of may become a reality more quickly and acutely than we think. Fortunately, many entrepreneurial companies are in hot pursuit of solving water crises and reducing water use in homes.

WaterFX, a company in Fresno County, uses solar thermal technology to turn salty and polluted irrigation runoff into pure water. Its pilot system produces about 14,000 gallons per day for its customers, who are mostly local farmers, and the company has plans to significantly increase production to 2 million gallons daily in the next few years.

Advances in water purification are encouraging, and residential (住宅的) water conservation also plays a role in meeting water-efficiency goals. Homebuilding company KB Home recently built its first Double ZeroHouse in Lancaster, Calif, one of the most water-challenged areas of the country. It’s a net-zero-energy building (potentiallyyieldingan electric bill of $0) that reuses greywater, and saves water with ultra-efficient appliances.

KB Home estimates that the structure can conserve 150,000 gallons of water each year when compared with a typical home, which is an average reduction of approximately 70 percent. The Double ZeroHouse’s advanced greywater system first pipes greywater from sinks, tubs, showers and washing machines into a heat-recovery system. As hot water runs through the system, the heat is extracted (提取) and used to preheat fresh water in the tankless water heater. This heat exchange results in about a 30 percent savings on water heating. Next, the greywater is channeled into a collection tank, where it’s stored for watering the landscape or garden.

As the cost of water rises, employing creative conservation solutions is not only vital to addressing our water crisis, but also important to keeping monthly utility (水电费) bills affordable for homeowners.

C.Use of recycling technology.D.Savings on electricity bills.
3. What does the underlined word “yielding” in Paragraph 4 mean?
A.Keeping.B.Producing.C.Replacing.D.Changing.
4. What could be the best title for the passage?
A.Great Concerns about Water Crisis.

【推荐2】Current digital technology gives us music of flawless quality. It also makes it easier to copy, upload and stream music without having to download it.     1    . However, as climate change is on everyone’s mind these days, the question related to music arises: Which music consumption form is worse for the environment: CDs, vinyl (黑色胶片), or digital music? The answer might surprise you.

2     logic would suggest that music downloads and online streaming are good for the environment. But must it surely be more environmentally friendly? Even though streamed music is material-free, that doesn’t mean it doesn’t have an environmental impact. In fact, the information is searched and sent to our electronic devices across the network, which costs energy.     3    .

Researchers found that streaming an album over the Internet will use 27 times more energy than it takes to produce a single CD or vinyl record. In any given second, the music platform is serving about 2.5 million streams at the same time.     4     that means almost 210,000 albums’ worth of music has been streamed. It will use nearly 8,000 times more energy than what making one CD takes. Meanwhile, if you buy a CD, it’s there permanently. The only extra energy required is whatever you need to power your CD player.

The study was published before Record Store Day—— an event that encourages listeners to buy physical record.    5    . Rather, they want you to think about your power use and choose services that minimize their effect on the planet. They also hope this could develop alternatives that are more sustainable without sacrificing the convenience you expect.

A.Since our digital music uses less plastic
B.If average albums contain twelve tracks
C.This happens every time we stream music
D.As a result, streaming music becomes popular
E.Although streaming music is a greener alternative
F.It wants to convey effects of streaming on economy
G.But the researchers aren’t advising playing music traditionally

【推荐3】The behaviour of a building's users may be at least as important as its design when it comes to energy use, according to new research from the UK Energy Research Centre (UKERC). The UK promises to reduce its carbon emissions (排放)by 80 percent by 2050, part of which will be achieved by all new homes being zero carbon by 2016. But this report shows that sustainable building design on its own—though extremely important—is not enough to achieve such reductions: the behaviour of the people using the building has to change too.
The study suggests that the ways that people use and live in their homes have been largely ignored by existing efforts to improve energy efficiency (效率),which instead focus on architectural and technological developments.
“Technology is going to assist but it is not going to do everything,”explains Katy Janda, a UKERC senior researcher,“consumption patterns of building users can defeat the most careful design.” In other words, old habits die hard, even in the best designed eco home.
Another part of the problem is information. Households and bill payers don't have the knowledge they need to change their energy use habits. Without specific information,it's hard to estimate the costs and benefits of making different choices. Feedback (反馈) facilities, like smart meters and energy monitors, could help bridge this information gap by helping people see how changing their behaviour directly affects their energy use; some studies have shown that households can achieve up to 15 percent energy savings using smart meters.
Social science research has added a further dimension (方面),suggesting that individuals' behaviour in the home can be personal and cannot be predicted—whether people throw open their windows rather than turn down the thermostat (恒温器) , for example.
Janda argues that education is the key. She calls for a focused programme to teach people about buildings and their own behaviour in them.

A.the waysB.their homes
C.developmentsD.existing efforts
3. What are Katy Janda's words mainly about?
A.The importance of changing building users' habits.
B.The necessity of making a careful building design.
C.The variety of consumption patterns of building users.
D.The role of technology in improving energy efficiency.
4. The information gap in energy use________.
A.can be bridged by feedback facilities
B.affects the study on energy monitors
C.brings about problems for smart meters
D.will be caused by building users' old habits
