BIRD WALK(Any time of year)-Join us for a private bird walk through our sanctuary(保护区）。 The Bent's grasslands, trees and woods provide great habitat(栖息地）for birds moving from one place to another, such as Warblers, Vireos, Indigo Buntings, Thrushes, Orioles, and more. This walk will be made to the members in your party.

NATURE HIKE(Any time of year)-Take a private hike with Bent of the River! Your personal guide will show you notable habitats and wildlife around the center trails. Nature is exciting and always changing, so you never know what we will find along the way! This program is ideal for people who want to enjoy beautiful scenery while hiking.

POMPERAUG RIVER EXPLORATION(June and July only)-Many fascinating creatures live in and around the Pomperaug River! During this recreational(休闲的） program, an Audubon naturalist will share the human and natural history of the river and teach you how to catch fish and animals. The Bent will supply you with necessary tools, such as nets, containers, and field guides. Once the animals are caught, we will observe and identify(确定身份） them and learn how they can help show the health of the river before we put them back to the wild.

OWL PROWL(January and February only)-Enjoy a special guided adventure in search of one of the most beloved groups of birds-owls(猫头鹰）！We will be prowling for owls on a walk through the grassland and forests in hopes of seeing one of the three owl species known to live in Connecticut: the Great-horned Owl, Barred Owl, or Eastern Screech-Owl.

Experience camp from the leader’s point of view and bring your own energy and talents to the Urbana Park District’s summer camp. Participate in and lead daily camp activities while helping counselors (辅导员) and children in Nature Day Camp.

You will volunteer 15-20 hours per week (3-4 days), attend weekly CIT meetings and participate in ongoing training throughout summer.

Join the excellent group of teens who gain experience and leadership skills that prepare them for future jobs. As a CIT, you make camp even more fun. Interested? Make a CIT application, available at any Park District office or online. Candidates (申请者) are selected through an application and interview process. Space is limited. Fees include camp T-shirt, all training, supervision (管理) and field trips. Payment is due on acceptance into the program. More importantly, pre-camp training is a must.

Being caught in a flood is dangerous, not only because there is so much water and it’s moving quickly, but also because of what the water is carrying. Debris (残骸) in the current can injure anyone in the floodwater, making swimming more difficult. To survive a flash flood, keep the following things in your mind.

 If a flood warning is issued, try to find a shelter immediately. Never try to walk, swim or drive through floodwaters.

 Avoid bridges that cross rapidly moving water, as floodwaters can cause bridges to break.

 Stay inside a car that is trapped in fast-moving water. Only get out if the water begins to flood the car, and then move to the roof of it.

 Avoid power lines. A knocked-down power line can cause surrounding water to become charged, leading to injury

 Listen to the broadcast for further instructions before getting away from the flood successfully.

The results of a flood can be just as deadly. It can cause power failure and traffic jams, and break down communication. In addition, it may not be possible to deliver food and water to the flooded area. After the flood, return to your home only after local governments have said it is safe to do so. Use bottled or boiled water for drinking and cooking. And avoid driving through flooded areas and walking alone outside at night.
