Our school has had a survey on reading. It shows that 55 percent the students spend their time reading textbooks after the school. Only 10 percent enjoy read literature. Why? They don’t have enough time but they have too much homework to do. Some complain that literary work are so thick that they have hardly enough patient to finish them. Others who only concentrate in how to get high scores simply admit that reading literature won’t help them with their exams. What’s more, some students show no interest in literature. In fact, books play a important role in our life. Not only can reading make us relaxing, and it also helps us learn the customs and cultures in the past and at present, at home and abroad.
Reading had a lot of benefits. It can open up our eyes because of books are full of knowledges. I like reading newspapers and magazines from that I get lots of fun and learn about what's going on around the world. I also read storybooks or novels which make me relaxing and happy. I seldom read e-books because they're bad for eyes. On weekends, I usual spend a whole afternoon read in the library. And I also read for about half an hour before going to bed every night. I use a very traditional method to helping me improve my English. I write letters with stamp. My friends say that I’m out of date and that it’s bored. But I like it. I have pen pals in the USA, Canada and Australia. Every week, I got a letter from one of them and I write a reply immediately on a same day. If I write an e-mail, my computer correct my spelling and my grammar. But with a real letter, you must to think more. And it’s something that takes time or a lot of consideration. I’m fond my letters and I love my pen pals. It’s a very successful method for myself.
My new friend Tom is good at English writing. One day, I asked him how he did so well in written English. He told me that he has a habit of keep a diary every day. "You can try them, too. I'm sure you will improve your written English quickly in this way, "he said. I thought Tom was right, but I decided to follow his advices. I started to write down something interested every day.
