Michael Todd wore the same clothes every day for the first three weeks of school. When the other kids began to notice that he was wearing the same black trousers and blue long-sleeve shirt day after day, Todd, a freshman at Preparatory High School in Memphis, was laughed at by everybody at school. However, there was little Toddy could do, for his mother just couldn't buy him new clothes.
Two of the kids were Garrett and Graham, a pair of football players. But over time, they realized that their hurtful words at Toddy felt like bullying and seemed to be slowly destroying Todd's pride.
Graham thought that he needed to do something, so he and Garrett made a plan.

After a long, uncomfortable pause, Jack left. 1 should have spoken up for him, but I couldn’t walk away from my three friends, could I?
Jack didn’t speak to me after that meeting. He was soon hanging around with another group of kids. A few months later, I saw an announcement about Jack being chosen to be president of the school book club. I was happy for Jack’s achievement, but I realized I had made a big mistake when I said nothing at the lunch table that day. Why was I so afraid that my friends might find out that I like to read?

Thirty years has passed, I still remember Miss Benson, my second-grade teacher. At that time, she was in her early 20s and just graduated from a university. She was the kindest, sweetest, most beautiful creature that ever walked the earth. I could not bear to miss one precious moment of her presence by leaving the room.
I was among the most hard-working students in the class. My hand was always the first to be raised when Miss Benson called for volunteers to clean the blackboards or to gather papers and bring them to her desk. That was the best chore of all. “Can it be that I have a secret admirer?” She would then add.
Thinking everyone was looking at me, I would feel the red rising in my face. When Miss Benson put the fruit away and started the lesson, I would at last sigh with relief.
One fall morning, the class got very excited. Someone had discovered the next day, Friday, was Miss Benson’s birthday. Everyone wanted to get her a present. My heart gave a leap, for after about one month I could give her something openly. After school, I combed the field for wild flowers. Not many were in bloom at that time of year, but luckily I came upon a patch of pretty red leaves.

Gone would be the yearbook with seniors’ quotes and many exciting activities. Lowerclassmen (低年级生) loved Debbie’s idea; would-be seniors, however, were angry.
My classmates supported me and were confident they could persuade enough lowerclassmen to vote my way. Each day I got reports of a few more of lowerclassmen coming to my side.
On election day, I felt fairly confident. I was even looking forward to quitting my job and focusing on school politics.
