Critical thinking means absorbing important information and using that to form a decision or opinion of your own.     1     But luckily, it’s something you can train yourself to do better.

One of the most important parts of thinking critically is learning what details matter. We’re exposed to so much information and so many different opinions every day that it’s really easy to get lost in the details.     2

Knowing which details are the most important is the first part of critical thinking, but it’s pretty useless if you don’t know what types of questions to ask next.     3     It’s important to always ask yourself why something is important and how it connects to things you already know. As you do that, you train your brain to think critically about more information you come across.

As with anything, if you want to get good at critical thinking, you need to practice it every day.     4     This could be casual observations or a notebook with opinions, but the point is to write every single day. Likewise, participating in a healthy debate with friends is great practice.

5     The more knowledge you gain, the better you’ll become at thinking about it. That doesn’t mean that you should be constantly thinking about thinking, but the end result is a brain that automatically forms better arguments, focused ideas, and creative solutions to problems.

A.Critical thinking doesn't end.
B.It doesn’t always come naturally to us.
C.Critical thinking can’t be learned in school.
D.You should question all the provided details.
E.One easy way to do this is to keep a journal of some kind.
F.After all, thinking critically and asking questions go hand in hand.
G.As a result, we need to train ourselves to learn which details matter.

【推荐2】Halloween is a great time in the lives of both children and adults. However, even the best Halloween can be ruined by trees filled with toilet paper and egg residues(残渣) that won’t wash off. How can you keep your home safe on Halloween? There are some measures you can take.

Make it known that you’re at home. Pranksters are less likely to play a trick if they know someone is at home. You may want to close the glass on your screen door and open your front door so that you can see everyone moving around outside. This also allows pranksters to see that you’re at home.

Turn on the lights inside your home and outside. Having all the lights on lets pranksters know that you’re not only at home, but you’re awake. If a prankster knows you’re awake,he’ll be more likely to skip your house and head for another one. Even if you need to get in bed early, keep all the lights on except in your bedroom. Pranksters aren’t going to know which room is your bedroom.

Ask the police to patrol the area. It’s a policeman’s job to keep citizens safe, especially on Halloween. In some cities the crime rate can increase fast on October 31.A polite call to your local police station should get you the service you need. Above all,no pranksters are going to throw eggs at your house when the policemen are patrolling the area.

Set up a neighborhood watch. One of the best ways to keep your home safe on Halloween is to get the neighbors involved. No one wants his trees covered with toilet paper. 文章大意:本文为一篇说明文,介绍了消除自我“负面偏见”的一些方法。

【推荐3】When you look at yourself in the mirror, do you focus on something you wish were different, and hear a critical inside voice?     1    . But if you are ready to be kind to yourself and willing to send that negative voice away forever, how do you begin? There are three steps to overcome our “negativity bias” (负面偏见).

1. Start with Mindful Awareness

Being aware of how you are treating yourself is really the first step.     2    . Use your actual name as you describe what you are doing, seeing, and feeling.

Then, instead of criticizing yourself, be curious about what you did and the reasons behind it. Remind yourself that you are doing the best with what you have. And pay your attention to the positive side of the situation.

2.     3

We all are worthy of love and we need to show loving kindness to ourselves. That might seem awkward at first, but with a little practice, the process will become easier. Soon the positive feeling you receive from self-kindness will provide you with a sense of happiness.

One of the best practices to build up your self-kindness is called “Note to a Dear Friend”. When you are facing a challenge or difficulty, write a note to a friend as if they were facing the same problem.     4    . Then, take the note and change your friend’s name to your own.

3. Recognize That You Aren’t Alone

Not one of us lives a perfect life. Everyone faces challenges and makes mistakes.     5    . First, you get a little bit less lonely. You are not the only person suffering, and knowing that takes a weight off your shoulders. Second, it becomes a little easier to open up to others, and say, “I need help.” We don’t have to pretend that everything is great when it isn’t. It’s OK to take off our masks and let people know exactly how we feel!

A.Practice Kindness
B.Show Others Kindness
C.It is important to face them
D.Simply name your feeling and inside voice
E.Write down what you think would help your friend
F.When we recognize that, valuable things will happen
G.If so, you may have the tendency to criticize yourself
