Friendships can be difficult—because often people aren’t as honest and open as they should be. Sometimes, people end up getting hurt.
Most problems with friendships come up because people are just too selfish to care about the things that their friends need. They care about their own needs much more, which makes it hard for friendships to work. However, being selfish is part of human nature. A person is put together in order to take care of himself and his own needs, not necessarily those needs of other people. Even though being selfish is something that all humans are born with, it is something that everyone should guard against.
The best thing to remember when you are a friend to anyone is that you need to treat your friend the same way as you’d like to be treated. This is wonderful advice for a friendship, because it is really the only way to make sure that you are giving your friend everything you would want to be given in a friendship. Whenever you have a question about how you should treat a friend, it is easy to find an answer simply by asking yourself what you would like your friend to do for you, if he or she is in your shoes.
Even if you’re always thinking about how you’d like to be treated, and your friends are too, there are issues that come up from time to time in each friendship, and it is important to understand how to deal with these issues so that you can build stronger and healthier friendships. Issues like friends getting boyfriends or girlfriends and not spending enough time with their friends, or even friends finding new friends and leaving old friends behind are issues that will probably come up with one or more of your friendships. It is important to know how to deal with these issues so that you can keep your friends and make new ones. No one wants to have a broken friendship.

The student turned to the professor, saying, “ Let us play the man a trick: we will hide his shoes, and hide ourselves behind those bushes, and wait to see his confusion when he cannot find them”.
“My young friend,” answered the professor, “we should never amuse ourselves at the expense of the poor. But you are rich, and may give yourself a much greater pleasure by tricking on the poor man. Put a coin into each shoe, and then we will hide ourselves and watch how the discovery affects him.”
The student did so, and they both placed themselves behind the bushes close by. The poor man soon finished his work, and came across the field to the path where he had left his coat and shoes. After he slipped his foot into one of his shoes, he felt something hard. He bent down to feel w hat it was, and found the coin. Astonishment and wonder were seen on his face.
He fixed his eyes on the coin, turned it round, and looked at it again and again. He then looked around him on all sides, but no person was to be seen. He now put the money into his pocket, and continued to put on the other shoe; but his surprise was doubled on finding the other coin. His feelings overcame him. He fell upon his knees, looked up to heaven and cried a sincere thanksgiving, in which he spoke of his wife, sick and helpless, and his children without bread, Whom the timely help, from some unknown hand, would save from dying.
The student stood there, deeply affected, and his eyes filled with tears.“Now,”said the professor,“are you not much better pleased than if you had played your intended trick?” The youth replied,“You have taught me a lesson which I will never forget.

Henao, as part of his doctoral work at CU Denver, took the wheel for more than three months in 2016 as a driver for Uber. That gave him a look at how the service affected local traffic patterns by tracking his trips through the Uber app and surveying his riders.A paper based on his experience reported that ride-hailing services were causing more congestion(拥堵), with 83.5% more miles traveled. It also found drivers of Uber drove around without a paying passenger at least 40% of the time.Parking seemed to be one upside. That study was followed by some pushback from Uber, which referred to other research showing good influences
"With this new study, it's nice to show Uber isn't all bad-our ability to reduce parking can be a benefit," said Marshall, a director of the Transportation Research Center. The study's findings could support arguments by some urban planners for removing minimum(最小量)parking requirements and freeing up space used by parking-at least in some areas served heavily by ride-hailing service. We don't need as much parking around restaurants, airports, stadiums, etc.The findings can also inspire cities to replace some of the land for parking and put it to better use, such as building roads for walking and biking, thus leading to less dependency on cars.

There are other women of influence whose roles are equally as important but often go unnoticed in social media. The roles our mothers, grandmothers, sisters, aunts play in our lives, influencing the people we’ve grown to be. These women also lead by example with love, strength, gentleness. They made and continue to make personal sacrifices (牺牲) so that we can be healthy and happy.
There are many women in my life who have helped me grow into the woman I am today. First my Mom, whose strength and courage showed me how to be strong and courageous too. My memories of her still fill me with love and inspiration. My grandmother taught me by example, how to age gracefully while continuing to stay connected to the world around her even when she became too old to go out.
I am grateful to many friends of all ages, who share my joys, my sorrows, celebrated my strengths as well as my weaknesses. Without the influence of all these women in my life I would not be the woman I am today. For each and every one of these beautiful women, I am deeply grateful for their wisdom, love and guidance along my life journey.
I would like to wish all the women of the world a Happy Mothers day. You make a difference to the men, women and children who come into contact with you each and every day. No matter what your role is, you are a woman of influence.

We are addicted to the power of the typed word and it is getting in the way of our ability to look people in the eye and talk. A good example is how much digital technology has affected public speaking.
At conferences and meetings, I hate it when speakers show their long and boring slides (幻灯片). I don’t mind maps and pictures, but all those words of text drive me crazy. “And now for my introduction...” and up comes the word “introduction”. “There are four main points” and we see “four points”. Lots of facts and data follow. These should all have been given out as an information sheet, or put on a website. Instead, while you are trying to go through the material, the lecture r is reading all about it, word for word. There’s a confusion of focus, and it gives me a headache. As the slides flash by, the most important relationship in public speaking is being destroyed—the connection between the speaker and the audience.
Good speakers watch their audiences. They don’t allow them to be distracted. If heads are nodding or feet moving around, it is time to attract their attention. Change the tone (音调) of your voice, slow down, and then suddenly speed up. “And most importantly!”, you shout, and then say the next thing very softly, so people prick up (竖起) their ears in case they miss important information.
We would be better off if we stop clicking away crazily on a mouse, as the ability to communicate face to face and hold the attention of others is a necessary human skill. Be careful of a technology in which the speed of our fingers is more important than the quality of our voices.
1. What does Paragraph 3 mainly talk about?A.Tips on being an excellent public speaker. |
