Why You Should Not Worry About Procrastination
Perhaps every person on Earth has at least once been in a situation when he or she has an urgent task to do, but instead of challenging it head on, he or she postpones working on this task for as long as possible. This delay can take various forms: from doing nothing, to doing a lot of work–just not the work that should be done. The phenomenon described here is called procrastination, and its roots go much deeper than mere laziness.
There are several arguments proving this statement. First of all, it helps you figure out your most pressing priorities. Usually, you will not procrastinate over some minor task such as sharpening a pencil or drinking a glass of water. Problems start when there is something important or difficult that needs to be done. Reasons keeping you from doing work can be different, but here is a clue to remember: try to figure out what exactly makes you avoid–as a rule, it should be exactly what your top priority task is at the moment.
Surprisingly enough, procrastination can even help you fix a relationship with another person. If you had a fight, for example, there is a period of time when whatever you say to each other will most likely be perceived with skepticism or even hostility.
As we can see, procrastination is not necessarily a bad thing.
A.Besides, you might have noticed how unwilling you may be when having to apologize in front of a different person–even if it was you who were wrong. |
B.This varies depending on the weight of a decision that needs to be made. |
C.Unlike many people got used to believing, procrastination is not a negative feature of character such as laziness. |
D.Usually, people tend to see procrastination as something bad. |
E.In fact, procrastinating in this case is also beneficial. |
F.A pressing matter, an urgent document that needs to be written by the end of the day, an especially difficult piece of work, whatever. |

Swedish entrepreneur Ingvar Kamprad was only 17 years old when he started the company in 1943. These days, the chain has about 400 stores selling appliances, furniture and other household items in over 40 countries around the world. So how have they managed to become such a global hit, to me it seems that three features of the chain stand out: their dedication to research, their affordable prices and their eco-friendly reputation.
The executives of IKEA have long understood the need to research other markets in order to succeed globally. The company is constantly conducting research on how people use their furniture and what they are looking for. They recently conducted research in eight cities worldwide. This is how they learned, for example, that Korean customers want a special kimchif refrigerator.
But in order to sell at discount prices, they need to make and sell a lot of the same thing to keep costs low. This way, they can get low prices from suppliers, and charge super-low prices to their customers. As a result, they can keep their prices economical even during periods of inflation. This is why they will show the same products in different ways in their stores, depending on the local culture. A British bedroom display might have a British flag bedspread on it, whereas one in Tokyo may have a traditional mat on the floor. In China, IKEA’s fastest-growing market, domestic manufacturers make most of the products they sell in order to keep transport costs low.
A final selling point of the company is eco-friendly. A company representative recently said that they are working on creating new products out of materials we currently throw away, such as recycled plastic and foil. In some markets, they plan to market an electric bicycle, and in Seoul, they recently planted a tree to celebrate the opening of a new store.
Next week, I’ll look at other multinational companies which specialize in household goods and automobile production.

B.It has planted some trees. |
C.New products out of recycled materials are created. |
D.It keeps transport cost low for most of the products. |

“You've got the red cells. They deliver oxygen and nutrients to the rest of your body,
You've got the white cells and they fight infection, so they're like your personal bodyguard against viruses and bacteria.
Then you've got the platelets(血小板), which are the blood clotting(凝结) cells. They prevent you from bleeding.
With improved technology, we can clearly and easily look at what the cells are doing when they're doing their jobs, and follow them around with microscopes much better than we used to.” he said.
Blood tests today are also so quick and simple that it's easy to forget how impressive they are, revealing everything from high cholesterol(胆固醇) levels to foetal (胎儿的) genetic disorders.
“Because blood is easy to get from people it's a great place to try and know biomarkers(生物标志物) of health or disease,” Assoc Prof Hamilton said.
But the thing I love most is that our blood is red because it's got iron in it from exploding stars. When a dying star explodes, it spreads all its elements as dust across the universe and
A.that's where our iron comes from |

Many teens agree. They say that helping others feels great and makes a difference. These days, more teensvolunteer than work for pay. Teens clean up parks, walk dogs at animal shelters, visit the elderly, and more.
Some cities— including Seattle, Chicago, and Washington, D.C.— require high school students to volunteer. Students must volunteer in order to graduate. The student volunteers learn new skills and help their communities( 社区).
Many parents subscribe to the idea they say volunteering helps teens build job skills. But most teens don't want to be forced to volunteer. They say they are busy. And they say volunteering is only fun if it's a choice.
Read both sides of the debate and decide.
Yes
Volunteering can help teens get into college or get a job.
Many cities and towns need help. Volunteers can help keep important programs going.
Not all teens will volunteer if it isn't required. Schools should require students to do all they can to get ready for adult life.

Most teens are already very busy with classes, homework, jobs, and sports. Forcing them to do more isn't fair.

The scariest part of it is that no one will ever see it coming. Though technology helps us prepare, but it never actually tells the people what time it’s going to hit, It is always estimated, but the result is never 100% accurate.
However, that is not the point of this article. Two different natural disasters in two different parts of the world have happened in the past few weeks. One is a major flood that has hit Louisiana in the United States. The other was an earthquake that hit Amatrice, Italy. However. there is a major difference in the news coverage (新闻报道) of the two tragedies.
As for the flooding in Louisiana, it is reported that this disaster is the worst to hit the United States since super - storm Sandy and it’ll cost at least $ 30 million. In only the first couple of weeks, 13 people had died. However, like me, many people did not hear about this tragic event. I did not learn about it until about three weeks after it happened.
In Italy, however, it covered all media instantly. The earthquake in Italy happened on Tuesday morning. That same day, I was on Twitter and that was all that was over the news feed. Every other post was about the earthquake. Some would have the opinion that Amatrice, Italy was one of the most beautiful towns in that country. I got in deep sorrow because there were more people killed in this quake than the flooding. So far, they have a total of 73 dead and over one - hundred missing.
I understand that technically the earthquake in Italy was worse than the floods in Louisiana. However, I believe that if a natural disaster happens, they all should be equally covered and taken equally as serious. We are one world united and should be there for all of the people out there who are in need of help. We may not be able to accurately predict disasters, but we can surely lend a hand out for the needy.

C.The media didn't cover it in time. | D.The flood frightened the author a lot. |
A.Proud. | B.Critical. | C.Pitiful. | D.Sad. |
A.Italy isn’t good at predicting the natural disasters. |
B.All natural disasters should be covered equally. |
C.The world should be united into one instantly. |
D.America should help Italy predict natural disasters. |

Many students I teach, like this athlete, believe that all-nighters in the library and hours on the field should get them exactly where they need to go. When they fall short of what they imagine they should accomplish, they are crushed by self-blame.
We talk often about young adults struggling with failure because their parents have protected them from discomfort. But there is something else at play among the most privileged in particular: a false promise that they can achieve anything if they are willing to work for it.
Psychologists have sourced this phenomenon to a misapplication of “mind-set” research, which has found that praising children for effort will increase academic performance. Developed by Stanford psychologist Carol Dweck, mind-set education has entered classrooms around the world. But a 2018 analysis found that while praising effort over ability may benefit high-risk or economically disadvantaged students, it does not necessarily help everyone.
One possible explanation comes from Suniya Luthar, who argued in a research paper last year that for teens in wealthy communities, “it is not a lack of motivation and perseverance that is the big problem. Instead, it is unhealthy perfectionism, and difficulty with backing off when they should, when the drive for achievements is over the top.” This can lead to physical and emotional stress.
The cruel, messy reality is that you can do everything in your power and still fail. Instead of allowing our kids to beat themselves up when things don’t go their way, we should all question a culture that has taught them that feeling anything less than overwhelmed means they’re lazy, and that where they go to college matters more than the kind of person they are.
The point is not to give our kids a pass on working hard. But we would be wise to remind our kids that life has a way of sucker-punching(出其不意地击打) us when we least expect it. It’s often the people who learn to say “stuff happens” who get up the fastest.
1. Which sort of students does the star athlete belong to?A.Those lacking courage to make self-criticism. |
B.Those tired of working all night in the library. |
C.Those believing hard work surely pay off. |
D.Those overprotected by their parents in life. |
A.It encourages teachers and parents to praise smart children. |
B.It has been proved beneficial to students all over the world. |
C.Applying it wrongly causes a problem for privileged teens. |
D.Psychologists believe it is the source of academic achievement. |
A.They don’t stick to their goals. |
B.They are less motivated to achieve success. |
C.They break down easily under mental stress. |
D.They can’t tolerate imperfect things. |
A.By telling them to give up some unrealistic goals. |
B.By discouraging them from working hard. |
C.By choosing where to go to college for them. |
D.By pushing them to fight against the cruel reality. |
