Esther Snader, a retired American teacher, said    1    was hard to leave the Chinese university she had taught at for more than 19 years, but that leaving her more than 1.200 books to the students was an easy    2    (decide).

Snader recently returned from Anqing Normal University in Anhui province to her hometown in the US. She couldn’t help feeling sad as she waved goodbye to the students, who    3    (spend)much of their time not only studying the courses she taught, but also in her living room    4    (read).

When she began working at the university, she found the students didn’t have many English books to read, she made    5    (she)available to them every Wednesday afternoon in the living room of her apartment, which    6    (provide)by the university.

Each time she went back to the US in the summer, she always chose some more books that she thought would be good for her students    7    shipped them to her Chinese address. Her library grew year by year and    8    (amaze), it had over 1,200 English publications before she left.

"Esther’s Library" was in Snader’s apartment until her last year of teaching,    9    it was moved to the English department, with students volunteering    10    (maintain) it since then.

Mark, a journal editor, who is fond of journey. Ever since    1    ( graduate), he has been scheduled to organize a trip to an old temple. At midnight, it stopped raining and brilliant stars were so beautiful that I couldn’t help thinking what an unforgettable trip it was!

Heated     1    （argue）between teenagers and their parents are common. I am no exception. I remember when I was a teenager, I was anxious and often argued with my parents. My head teacher,     2     important figure in my life, helped me solve the conflicts between my parents and me. On one hand，she understood me and knew teenagers were often     3    great stress. She told me that it was normal that I was eager     4    （be）independent. On the other hand, she often called my parents, and communicated with them. Slowly, my parents realized it was wrong of them     5    （design）everything for me. They became more caring and patient. What’s more, my teacher gave me much confidence. She made me realize that I was unique and told me that she was proud of my     6    （perform）at school, but that I should learn to hold my     7    （angry）.

With the help of my head teacher, I understood my parents. I began to consider the situation from their point of view. Even though I didn’t see eye     8     them on everything, I would try to keep calm and avoid     9    （quarrel）with them. Sometimes, I would back down. I even tried to view my parents     10     my friends and respected them. Eventually, everything turned out all right. I must say “Thank you” to my headteacher.
