He Zhenliang, played a very important role in helping Beijing win the bid (投标) for the 2008 Summer Olympics in 2001 after the Chinese capital failed in its first attempt. The success of the 2008 Beijing Olympics marked China's rising to a major world sports power, which was witnessed and assisted by He.
He had devoted himself to introducing China’s sports progress to the world. He started his career in 1950s as an international communication official in the National Sports Commission, with impressive foreign language skills. He then began working as a senior official in the 1960s for organizations such as the Chinese Table Tennis Association, the All-China Sports Federation and the Chinese Olympic Committee (COC). After being chosen to the executive board of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) in 1985, He was eventually voted IOC vice-president in 1989. He promoted the Olympic Movement in China and removed misunderstandings about China's unique sports system.
Major sports figures in China expressed their respect after He’s passing. Wei Jizhong He’s longtime colleague, recalled that his most unforgettable moment about He was when He wept privately after Beijing failed in 1993 in its Olympic bid. “He said he felt he had let his country and people down, while in fact he’d done whatever he could, ” Wei said.
YangYang, the once short-track speed skater and now an IOC member, praised him as a guiding light for her change from an athlete to an international sports official. “His fruitful work in the IOC earned a positive impression from the world about Chinese sports, which inspired me and guided me to continue my career as a sports official, ” said Yang.

Many Americans hoping to stay healthy set a daily goal of 10, 000 steps, or about eight kilometers. They often have this goal because they are wearing electronic devices which set that target, note researchers in the United States. Their findings appeared recently in the publication JAMA Internal Medicine.
But it is not clear how much intensity(强度)or speed matter when counting the health benefits of every step, the researchers write. They add that 10,000 steps per day might not be the right goal for everyone.
For the study, researchers observed 17,000 women, all in their early 70s. They asked the women to wear accelerometers for at least four days. Accelerometers are small devices that measure the number of steps and the intensity of movement. The researchers followed up with the women much later, around 4. 3 years later, on average. Since the beginning of the study, 504 women had died. Compared to women who took no more than 2, 718 steps daily, the women who took at least 4,363 steps per day were 41 percent less likely to die.
“Even a modest amount of steps is associated with lower death rates, "said I-Min Lee, the lead writer of a report on the study. "The rate of stepping did not matter in these older women: it was the number of steps that mattered.
The study had a few limitations. For example, the researchers only measured women’s movements once, at the start of the study period. It is possible that the women’s behaviors changed over time. Still, the results are "good news for older adults who may have difficulty walking at faster paces, "said Keith Diaz, a researcher at Columbia University. He was not involved in the study.
“Any walking is better than nothing, " Diaz said by email. "With even small amounts of walking, your risk of death will be sharply reduced "For those who have difficulty walking, other research shows that any form of aerobic activity provides health benefits," he added. "Swimming, bicycling or any form of activity that is continuous in nature will provide health benefits.

Exercise plays an important role in a teenager's mental health. Teenagers who exercise tend to have a better body image than those who don't, which helps build confidence and makes one feel more comfortable. This also helps one to accept his or her looks. Although physique(体形)is not as important a factor as health,it can strongly affect teenagers' mood and attitude. They can produce a feel-good effect and create a sense of emotional well-being during and after exercise. They can make physical activities more enjoyable. They can also reduce stress and relax one to a point at which it is even easier for one to fall asleep.
Many students say that they are too busy with schoolwork to exercise. but they don't realize that exercise can improve their mental performance. Exercise such as walking and jogging increases the flow of oxygen to the brain and heart. Teenagers who exercise regularly tend to have the ability to think more clearly and faster, In addition, teenagers that exercise regularly tend to be more focused and perform better in school. Apart from being distressed by the pandemic and social unrest, we also lost two of our icons - David Sternand Kobe Bryant. It's been our longest season in NBA history, and so much was thrown-at us" . However, he added that the NBA was incredibly blessed with being able to restart its season four months after its initial shutdown.
The NBA shut down on March 11 due to the Covid-19 pandemic. Later, it became clear that resuming the NBA's season was far more complex than simply rescheduling games. The NBA community, like the world at large, has lost friends and family to the virus. It has wrestled with economic hardship job losses and mental health issues. It has gone from trying to escape risk to understanding how to live with it. Michele Roberts, executive director of the National Basketball Player Association (NBPA), made it clear.“It's really been an evolution of emotional reactions from one extreme to another. Complete disbelief, ignorance (无知) and not taking it seriously, to gradually coming to a point where, "OK, what are my real options here?"
Roberts attributed the reopening of the NBA season to the strong, long-standing relationship between the NBA staff and Bob lger, executive chairman of the Walt Disney Company. Adam Silver, NBA commissioner, similarly pointed out that their mutual trust helped push the process forward. Eventually, they agreed that playing without fans and out of the home arenas would be a workable choice. After numerous calls for months among NBA and NBPA committee members, business leaders, public health officials, the managers and presidents of the teams, they finally struck a deal with the Walt Disney Company to use the resort (度假胜地) near Orlando, Florida to build a single bubble site for the games, training and housing for all the players, coaches and media staff.
Their endeavour paid off. On July 7, 22 teams gathered on the bubble campus in Florida where they lived and isolated themselves from the world outside in the following three months. Reflecting on their path, Silver believed that a sense of unity from top to bottom is the key."Without it, the financial disputes and the safety protocols (协议) would never be settled."

But athletes aren’t the only ones that tried their best at the Games. All the organizers, volunteers and healthcare workers worked tirelessly during COVID-19-related challenges. Together they helped China to honor its promise to host streamlined, safe and splendid Games.
As athletes of the Chinese Winter Olympics and Paralympics delegations entered the hall on Friday for the gathering to honor those who made outstanding contributions to the Games, representatives of the organizers and volunteers applauded loudly. In fact, they themselves also deserve a round of applause because without their efforts and sacrifices, the smooth running of competitions under such difficult circumstances would have been a mission impossible.
China prepared for the Games for seven years. For China to have hosted the Winter Games on schedule was considered a huge success, but the fact that venue (场馆) conditions met such exacting standards greatly exceeded many people’s expectations.
Some athletes told me that they harbored some reservations about the Winter Games closed-loop management policy before arriving in China because they feared that it might affect their freedom of movement. They then soon found out that such concerns were unnecessary as they could travel anywhere and anytime they wished within the closed loop, which is only meant to keep them safe so they can fully concentrate on competitions. Then they became even more excited to compete after conducting training sessions at venues described as “the best that they have ever been”.
The Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics and Paralympics have left many memories. For many, the beautiful memories of peace, friendship and unity are surely among them, I think it’s the best reward for the organizers and volunteers.

Yesterday my parents were heading off on a little holiday and I took them to the train station, the rain was pouring down.
I got their luggage out, helped them get to the elevator and sent them on their way. As I was walking back to the parking lot, I saw an elderly man walking slowly toward the bus station. Obviously, he had no umbrella. I walked over and asked him where he was going. It turned out that he was heading to the same town as I was, just a 15-minute drive. I offered him a lift which he gratefully accepted.
We had a lovely chat on the way and I learned some of his history. He was 87 and heading to the nursing home he had just put his beloved wife in last week. He had his driving license taken away last year so he had to take public transport every day. A tear fell down his cheek as he told me about his wife. I tried to hold back my own tears but failed.
As I dropped him off at the entrance of the nursing home, I gave him the bunch of flowers I had in the car which I had given to my mom on Mother’s Day. I would much rather see the flowers indulged in by him and his wife than just take them back home. Tears rolled down his cheeks and he thanked me gratefully. As I made my way back to my car, I totally lost control of my emotions and cried like a baby. I just felt that all the stars shone for some reason and I was meant to meet him today. I was very glad to be able to help him in some way.

A few months after our son left for the Middle East, my friend gifted me a box of tulip bulbs (郁金香球茎). She explained that these bulbs were put into the ground in the fall and lay sleeping all winter. They had all the nutrients they needed inside the bulb and would come out in the spring. ''When you see the leaves of the tiny flowers pushing toward the sun, you'll know that it's almost time for your son to come home. They'll give you what you need most.'' She walked me through the process of planting them. I thanked her — trying to show my gratitude for her gift.
It was a long winter — cold and dark. I endured both the weather and the loneliness and fear I felt with my son away. Dead leaves, frost and finally a heavy snow covered the area where I'd planted those flowers, and I soon forgot they were there.
Finally the weather began to warm. One day, as I walked down my front steps, I noticed an area of green. I bent down to inspect the situation more clearly and saw that those tulips had begun to grow, their tiny leaves forcing their way to the sun.
Day after day I noted the flowers' progress. And day after day, the time approached when my son would finally be home. Now with spring just around the corner, nothing could keep either of us from marching toward the light. Almost all of those bulbs bloomed. And with each brightly colored flower, I marked off one day closer to getting to hold my son in my arms again.
