Liu Yongtan,     1    (know) as a pioneer in China’s high-speed rail industry, graduated     2    Southwest Jiaotong University in 1955. Then he worked     3    a technician on the Chengdu-Kunming Railway,     4    he gained valuable experience in railway engineering.

In 1984, Liu Yongtan joined in China’s first high-speed rail project the Beijing-Shanghai Railway. At the time, many engineers believed that it was    5    (possible) to build such a railway in China. Despite these challenges, Liu Yongtan and his team devoted all their life to    6    (develop) one of the most advanced high-speed rail systems    7     (global).

Thanks to Liu Yongtan’s leadership, China’s high-speed rail network     8    (grow) rapidly over the years. One of Liu Yongtan’s most significant     9    (contribute) was the “reinforced concrete continuous beam bridge” technology used in the construction of high-speed rail lines. His achievements have not only benefited China     10    have inspired engineers around the world.

A team made up     1     eight members has created an AI painting project. The creative concept gives robots the power     2     (create) art using colors, canvas and a paintbrush.

The AI painting project features a robot     3     (inspire) by human artists — it has a robot arm that holds the paintbrush to bring new art to life through paintings     4     are not generated at will, but rather based on a set of     5     (concept) that the AI technology uses to create art. To do so, one or multiple values     6     (give) to the AI robot to generate a picture through a collection of brush strokes (画笔笔触).

The images created by the robot are based on the evaluation standard of “most like the presented concept”. The robot arm then uses the paintbrush and colors to create art. It currently works with both acrylic paint (丙烯颜料)     7     watercolors and mixes the colors with water as well.

The team believes that the paint strokes, colors, and images produced by AI have the potential to lead the world into a new category of art     8     (full) created by machines. Going forward, the team is in the process of     9     (design) a visual feedback system that will allow the robot to see the painting in progress, making human intervention (介入) and co-creation     10     (possibility).
