Just an hour after completing her first aid course, Mamta     1     (wait) at a bus stop when she heard a crash and saw a motorcyclist flying through the air — his helmet was going one way and his motorbike the other. She could also see a pedestrian (行人) was knocked down.

As other pedestrians stood     2     (shock) by the scene, Mamta immediately stepped forward and helped. The motorcyclist’s eyes were rolling back; his head and arm     3     (injure), and he was making noises. So she shouted at him, “Can you breathe?” As he was given emergency     4     (treat), the confused motorcyclist actually tried to walk away     5     Mamta insisted he wait for the ambulance. Once the motorcyclist was comfortable, Mamta went over     6     (check) on the injured pedestrian and pressed her blouse on his     7     (bleed) arm. Before long, official medical help arrived.

Looking back on the incident, Mamta said, “I     8     (ask) tons of questions all through that day’s course. Little did I know that I’d be putting it     9     practice on my way home. It just shows that even the most basic training can make     10     difference.”

Kang Yu, a 24-year old volunteer teacher in a remote town in the mountains of Yunnan province, was teaching calligraphy(书法) to the eighth graders when all of    1     sudden, the clouds seemed to burst and the clectricity went out.     2     (see)that the students were staring at the rain, Kang     3     (immediate)got a burst of inspiration.

She told them to go outside and enjoy the rain, and come back to write something like a poem. Much    4     her surprise, the works written by the students were far beyond her expectations.

Inspired by that class, Kang founded the    5     (organise), Enlighten Our Future, to help Chinese youngsters improve their mental well-being and their exam grades through poetry composition and appreciation. She managed     6     (persuade)13 schools to adopt the “Four Season Poetry Lessons” project, with a teaching plan, content and method she provided. So far, the poetry lessons     7     (design)by the non-profit have helped 68,0000 students in 823 primary and middle schools, mostly in poor areas.
