The first time I invited a good friend not just over to but into my house, post-vaccination, without masks, I couldn’t even wait until she walked up to my door —I ran outside to greet her, and we hugged each other in the driveway. We both held on tight, as we took turns exclaiming how good it was to see each other. We     1    (not hang) out in person since January 2020, and of course I was looking forward to talking, sharing a meal, catching up on all her news—but somehow I felt that     2     any of that happened, I would also get to hug her. It was my first hug from a friend in more than a year, and a reminder of just how     3     (comfort) a good hug can be.

I’ve been a huger since middle school, when my friends and I     4     embrace between classes in the hall as though we hadn’t just seen one another the day before. In high school, I volunteered at a Girl Scouts camp every summer, and at the end of each session, many of our campers would seek us out     5     (say) goodbye. My fellow counselors and I would typically offer     6     a choice: Hug, handshake or high five? Most of the kids would choose a hug. But there were always at least a few     7     would opt for a handshake, at times delivered so solemnly that I felt like we were going into business together, or a high five, some slapping so hard that my hand     8     (hurt). I always appreciated this ritual, especially the individual ask, for the simple reason     9     it allowed me to think about and honor each camper’s wishes. As I venture out from my pandemic bubble, I hope to bring the same kind of intentionality to every much     10     (anticipate) reunion.

The question was once asked of a     1    (success) businessman, "How have you done so much in your lifetime?" He replied, "I have dreamed. I have turned my mind loose     2    (imagine)what I wanted to do. Then I went to bed and     3    (think) about my dreams. In the night I dreamed about my dreams. And when I awoke in the morning, I saw the way to make my dreams real.

While other people were saying, "You can't do that, and it is     4    (possible)." I was well on my way to     5    (achieve) what I wanted. As Woodrow Wilson, the 28th President of     6     U.S., said, "We grow great by dreams."

All big men are dreamers. Some of us let these dreams die,     7     others protect them and take care     8     them through bad days until they bring them to the sunshine which always comes to those who     9    (sincere) hope that their dreams will come true. So please, don't let anyone steal your dreams, or try to tell you they are too unrealistic. "Sing your     10    (song), and dream your dreams; hope your hope and pray your prayer."

As many of us already know,     1    (have)plans in place for the future is no guarantee that they will become reality. Take two famous authors for example. Although they shared the same ambitious and     2     (energy) approach to life, their careers unfolded in contrasting ways.

His novel The Old Man and the Sea won the Pulitzer Prize for Fiction in 1953.     5     contrast, the young Arthur Conan Doyle, born in Scotland in 1859, had originally worked as a doctor. Though his main ambition was to become a writer of     6     (history) novels, he was best known for his fictional detective, Sherlock Holmes, which     7     (entertain) readers for well over a century.

8     both of these men were ultimately successful, their paths to success were very different their futures not necessarily     9     (turn) out exactly as they planned. So, whatever twists and turns you might encounter, take     10     leaf out of the books of these two authors and be prepared for the unexpected.
