A new chapter opened in mankind’s exploration of the moon on Thursday morning as the first probe (探测仪) to land on the moon’s far side reached its destination after a 26-day journey. The Chang’e 4 lunar probe, representing China ’s latest step in lunar investigation, landed at 10: 26 am at the Von Karman crater (环形山) and then sent back three photos of the landing site shot by cameras on the probe’s lander (着陆器), marking the world’s first images taken on the surface of the far side.

One of the photos, published by the China National Space Administration, shows the place where Chang’e 4’s rover (巡视器), which was named Yutu 2 on Thursday night, will be heading to explore and survey. Thus began the first long journey to the side of the moon that faces away from the Earth. It is meant to fulfill scientist’s long-held desire to closely observe the lesser known region.

Tidal (潮汐的) forces on Earth slow the moon’s rotation (自转) to the point that the same ways faces Earth. The other side most of which is never visible from Earth, is the far side of the moon. While it has been photographed by spacecraft, starting with a Soviet probe in 1959, no probe had ever made a soft landing there, so scientists had not been able to conduct surface-level observations and surveys of the region.

Wu Weiren, chief designer of China’s lunar program, said in Beijing on Thursday that the landing “was perfect”. He called the event “ an important milestone for China’s space exploration”, adding that it has made a good start for future lunar exploration efforts.

With its investigation of the far side, particularly the Von Karman crater, the Chang’e 4 mission will enable scientists to find out what they haven’t known about the moon and deepen their knowledge of its early history and of the solar system.

【推荐1】Cheese and red wine are basic diets over the festive period, and if you love red wine and cheese, a new study will come as music to your ears. Researchers from low a State University have revealed that drinking red wine and eating cheese can help to reduce cognitive decline.

In the study, the researchers analyzed data from 1,787 adults aged 46 to 77, and asked them to complete questionnaires about their food and alcohol consumption. The results showed that cheese was the most protective food against age-related cognitive problems, even into late life. Daily consumption of red wine was also shown to improve cognitive function, while weekly consumption of lamb was shown to improve long-term cognitive skills. However, over-consumption of salt was found to increase the risk of cognitive decline.

Dr. Auriel Willette, who led the study, said: “I was pleasantly surprised that our results suggest that appropriately eating cheese and drinking red wine daily are not just good for helping us cope with our current COVID-19 pandemic, but perhaps also dealing with an increasingly complex world. Although we considered whether this was just due to what rich people eat and drink, clinical trials at random are needed to determine if making easy changes in our diet could help our brains in significant ways.”

While the reason for the link remains unclear, the researchers believe that cheese and red wine may protect some people from the effects of Alzheimer's.

Brandon Klinedinst, an author of the study, added: “Depending on the genetic factors you carry, some individuals seem to be more protected from the effects of Alzheimer's, while others seem to be at greater risk. Perhaps the silver bullet we're looking for is improving how we eat. Knowing what that involves contributes to a better understanding of Alzheimer's and putting this disease in an opposite path.”

文章大意:本文是说明文。本文主要解释了友善行为的影响和重要性。

【推荐2】Being kind to other people can improve well-being of the one who receives it. Acts as simple as buying a cup of coffee for someone can boost his mood, for example. Everyday life affords many opportunities for such actions. However, people do not always take advantage of them.

A behavioral scientist at the University of Chicago Booth School of Business examined a possible explanation: people who perform random acts of kindness undervalue the impact of their behavior on recipients (接受者).

Across multiple experiments involving about 1, 000 participants, people performed a random act of kindness—that is, an action done with the primary intention of making someone else feelgood. Those who perform such actions expect nothing in return. Then both the person performing a kind act and the one receiving it were asked to fill out questionnaires, where they had to rate how “big” the act seemed. In all cases, the performer’s expectations of the recipient’s mood were compared with the recipient’s actual experience.

The research revealed that people may underestimate their action’s impact: recipients felt significantly better than the kind actors expected. For example, when people received cupcakes through a random act of kindness, the cupcake givers underestimated how positive their recipients would feel. Recipients of these unexpected actions tend to focus more on warmth than performers do.

Missing the importance of warmth may stand in the way of being kinder in daily life. People know that cupcakes can make others feel good, to be sure, but it turns out that cupcakes given in kindness can make their recipients feel surprisingly good. If people undervalue this effect, they might not bother to carry out these warm, prosocial behavior.

These findings suggest that what might seem small when we are deciding whether or not to do something nice for someone else could matter a great deal to the person we do it for. Given that these warm gestures can enhance our own mood and brighten the day of another person, why not choose kindness when we can?

1. What can we infer from the first two paragraphs?
A.People bother to carry out kind actions.
B.People are unwilling to boost a person’s mood.
C.People always have opportunities to be kind to others.
D.People undervalue the influence of their acts of kindness on others.
2. What task was set for the performers and recipients?
A.They had to expect something in return.
B.They were required to fill out questionnaires.
C.They were asked to perform a random act of kindness.
D.They should be compared with each other’s warm behavior.
3. Why does the author mention “cupcakes” in paragraph 4?
A.To present a fact.B.To show an action.

【推荐3】Play therapy is a kind of treatment which uses play to deal with psychological problems.     1     But it's most commonly used in children between the ages of 3 and 11.

2     Here are just a few advantages. Children will have fewer behavior problems and have better school performance. According to some studies, play therapy allows kids to deal with their bad feelings such as sadness, nervousness and anger. What's more, the parent-child relationship may be closer.

A typical course of play therapy is that the therapist meets with the child's parents to discuss the child's problems. The parents may be concerned with behavioral problems like shyness, acting out in class or bed-wetting.     3     And the child is taken to a play area which has toys.

When a child starts to go through the toys, the therapist takes note of which toys the child plays with, and how the child plays with them.     4    That's because the therapist wants to see the child's natural psychological state. As the class moves on, the therapist will help the child use play to solve psychological problems.

Working with children can be challenging, as a child may make progress one day, and not the next. Therapy requires patience and devotion to long-term treatment. When the child's problems have been dealt with, the therapist will prepare the child for leaving.     5

A.Play therapy can be used in adults.
B.Some children don't like to play with toys.
C.And the course of therapy finally ends.
D.Play therapy can be quite helpful to kids.
E.Next, the therapist is introduced to the child.
F.The therapist can know better about the parents.
G.But the therapist won't offer any advice on playing.
