【推荐1】For the first time in the competition’s history, two athletes are sharing a gold medal at the World Athletics Championships.

The USA’s Katie Moon and Australia’s Nina Kennedy found themselves in a difficult situation during the women’s pole vault (撑竿跳) final. They both cleared 4.90 meters, but neither managed to clear 4. 95 meters on any of their three attempts.

Kennedy says she looked at Moon and said, “Hey, girl, maybe you want to share this?”

“And the relief on her face — and you could see it on my face — and it was mutual (相互的). And yeah, absolutely incredible to share a medal with Katie Moon. You know, we’ve been friends for so long, so it’s super special,” Kennedy told reporters after the final.

Thousands of fans were on their feet at the National Athletics Centre in Budapest, Hungary, for Date 5of the competition, which hosts almost 2,000 athletes from 192 countries. The dramatic event lasted two hours and ten minutes. Katie Moon told FloTrack that as the final progressed, it became clear that very little separated the two athletes.

As the competition was going. I kept thinking. “I don’t want this to go to a jump-off (加赛),” Moon told sports journalist Anderson Emerole. “This competition was the toughest battle I’d say that I’ve had. It was very emotionally draining (消耗), and I think that’s why both of us were feeling like. ‘We’re not really feeling the jump- off right now.’”

It was Moon’s second consecutive gold medal at the World Championships. She also w on an Olympic gold in Tokyo in 2021. With a personal record of 4. 95meters. Moon appeared to be the favorite.

Kennedy, however, did not back down. Not only did she set a new personal record, but she also broke the Australian record by eight centimeters when she sailed over the 4.90-meter high bar. She held back tears after the career-defining leap.

“It was a miracle to get the gold. I think a miracle happened tonight.” Kennedy told reporters.

Tagging (涂鸦) a train is often less about the art and more about the prize of marking something that involves risk and echoes the original graffiti writers, who blanketed subway trains, including the windows and scats inside, in the 1970s and 1980s.

”Modern graffiti began in Philadelphia in the 1960s. But it became an art form in New York City, says Eric Felisbret, author of “Graffiti New York”. “Graffiti benefited from the popularity of hip-hop globally,” says Mr Felisbret. “Out of all the elements of hip-hop, graffiti is by far the most rebellious. . . Back then, all graffiti was illegal.”

In 2020 the Metropolitan Transportation Authority(MTA), which runs the subway, spent 1. 2m on cleaning. By the end of May 2022 it had already spent 1. 1m. In all of 2021, 681 subway cars were “ruined”. This year more than 700 cars have been. More than one in ten subway cars had to be taken out of service for cleaning.

The recent spike in subway graffiti activity parallels the lifting of travel restrictions. The graffiti on trains usually gets cleaned or hidden quickly, so artists post images of their work on social media. Sharif Profit, who organizes the annual Graffiti Hall of Fame in Harlem, says he can always tell when the work is by someone from another country: “It is not on the same level.

Tagging on the subway is dangerous. The live third rail is lethal (致命的) and the tunnels are dark. Trains can appear with little warning, so trespassers (不法进入者) may have no way of avoiding them. Two French graffiti artists were killed by a train in Brooklyn in April.”As soon as I heard where the bodies were found, I knew they were taggers, says Mr Felisbret.

The MTA removes any tagged train so as to avoid encouraging other people.   Passengers then have to wait longer. That was the case recently, says Richard Davey, head of the MTA’s New York City Transit system, when eight trains were ruined. The resulting delays affected thousands of commuters. “It’s our goal to make sure we don’t return to the 1970s,” he says, “whether it’s in our stations or on our cars.”

Graffiti on the subway began to die out in the late 1980s. One former graffiti writer said it is almost shocking to see tagging there now.

On Tuesday, supporters waved Chinese flags and blue Beijing 2022 flags, and erupted into cheers when her score was announced.

Fans filled the stands to cheer for Gu, who was born in the United States but decided in 2019 to compete for China. Known as the “snow princess” in China, Gu--already a superb world champion--has become the unofficial face of China’s Olympic ambitions.

The Chinese internet exploded in joy after Gu’s victory. The topic dominated searches on China’s Twitter-like platform Weibo, where seven of the 10 top trending topics were all about Gu’s win. Fans on her Weibo, where she has 2.6 million followers at that time, left more than 90,000 comments in just half an hour after her win. Related hashtags(话题标签), such as “Gu Ailing won the gold medal”, received more than 300 million views within an hour--eventually crashing the entire Weibo site due to the massive number of users.
