As we all know, China     1     (pay) attention to the development of the marine economy(海洋经济) in recent years.Marine tourism has kept stable development because of the intro- duction of     2     (use) steps, said Rao Quan, a leader of Culture and Tourism, at the open- ing ceremony of the Asia Conference on Marine Tourism 2022,     3     was held in Ningbo, East China’s Zhejiang Province on July 13. Rao also called on Asian countries     4     (join) hands to develop high-quality marine tourism. Cheng Yuechong, another leader of Zhejiang, adds, “Zhejiang has     5     (it) special local advantages in     6     (develop) the marine economy, and the province treats marine tourism     7     a new engine to drive the growth of the marine economy.” The conference has provided a key platform(平台) to improve marine tourism exchanges and cooperation in Asia. Ningbo, a     8     (know) historical and cultural city in China and an economic center in the southern end of the Yangtze River Delta, plays     9     important part in the history of marine culture and makes a     10     (contribute) to the global industrial supply chain, according to leaders of Ningbo.

Suzhou was the stop I knew least about on our two-week tour through China       1     within just hours of arriving, I realized it would provide some of my favourite memories. This city takes gardens     2     a whole other level.

The city’s roughly 200 private gardens have     3     (collective) earned a place on the UNESCO World Heritage Sites list   Each garden has a unique     4     (sell) point, and some can take hours to explore.

After finishing our meal, we     5     (take) a short walk to the Master of the Nets Garden. The use of space gives the impression of a much larger area when, in reality, the postcard-perfect garden is one of the     6     (small) in the city.

You could likely spend days wandering through the gardens of Suzhou, but this city has     7    huge draw you can’t miss: its network of small canals. In parts of the old town, you can take a small gondola or larger public boat along the waterways, but before committing to the canals, be sure     8     (explore) the city on foot. Many tourists head to Tonggui Bridge. From there, larger tourists boats travel up and down the water,     9     the reflections of the houses on both sides slowly turn to ripples (涟漪) as you glide along.

I left Suzhou so grateful that it     10     (include) on the tour. If it hadn’t been, I wouldn’t have found my favourite city in China.

Pillows     1    (use) in China for thousands of years and hold a significant place in Chinese culture. In modern times, we enjoy     2    wide range of pillows filled with synthetic fibers, down, feathers, or latex. However, it is intriguing (引起好奇心的) to explore     3    ancient Chinese people used as pillows.

Based on historical records and unearthed artifacts, the development of pillows in China can be traced through various     4    (material) such as stone, jade, wood, bamboo, lacquer, leather, copper, pottery, porcelain, silver, and silk fabric. Pillows were categorized into hard     5    soft types, with stone and wooden pillows appearing earliest in history.

In addition to providing support for head and neck during sleep     6    (make) people sleep better, pillows also serve some other functions. Pillows in ancient China not only served as sleep aids but also played a role in     7    (tradition) medicine. Some pillows were     8    (specific) designed to relieve headaches, promote blood circulation, or alleviate neck and shoulder pain. Herbal pillows with health functions have a long history in China     9    (date) back to the Western Han Dynasty. These pillows were filled with herbs or medications and placed in direct contact     10    the head, providing preventive and curative effects against illnesses.

In the 17^th century, people believed more in the church than in facts, and people like Galileo Galilei,    1    proved the idea that “the Earth is not the center of the universe”, were often punished by the church with no one    2    (come) to their defence. The church and many people tended to ignore the facts and didn’t want to challenge    3    they had always comfortably believed. It is not surprising that people wanted to believe these primitive ideas as they had been put forward    4    the great philosopher Aristotle.
