The Asian Games is the largest sporting event in Asia. Its predecessor (前身) was the Far Eastern Games. In 1948, Guru Dutt Sondhi, leader of Indian sports, felt the Far Eastern Games were not good enough     1     (reflect) the level of Asian sports and the unity spirit of Asian people, and suggested     2     (establish) the Asian Games so that all Asian countries could participate.

The 19th Asian Games was held in Hangzhou from September 23 to October 8, 2023,     3     12,417 athletes from all 45 Asian countries and regions participating. Several rising sports     4     are popular among young people made their first     5     (appear) at this year’s Games, such as break dance and e-sports. After a 13-year absence     6     it first appeared at the Guangzhou Games in 2010, Weiqi,     7     mind sport, returned to the Hangzhou Games. Certain     8     (region) sports in Asia, especially dragon boat racing, though not     9     (recognize) as Olympic sports,     10     (be) medal-awarded events at this Asian Games.

Sixth-grader Zoey York is fast becoming famous in the sporting world of Brazilian jiu-jitsu (柔术), winning national competitions and earning lots of honors.

In September 2020, when Zoey was 10, her brother took a jiu-jitsu class just     1     fun. “I tried it myself and immediately (立刻)     2     (fall) in love with it,” Zoey recalled. “Since then, I have been     3     great fan of it and I enjoy it more than any other sport I've ever done.”

In the gym where Zoey trains, she is     4     (physical) larger and stronger than most other kids her age. This means she often takes classes and trains with adults,     5     has helped improve her skills. In 2021, Zoey competed in the jiu-jitsu national championship competition and placed third. Right now, she     6     (train) hard for her first international contest to be held next July.

“I couldn’t ask for a     7     (good) student than Zoey to work with,” said her coach Malachi Moore. “She is always strict with     8     (she). She trains very hard and does everything you could ask a student     9     (do). And to stay in good shape, she always eats a     10     (balance) diet. She is able to pick up the basics really quick and I am proud of her.”

French-Iranian artist Marjane Satrapi has introduced a nearly 30-foot long tapestry (挂毯)     1     (mark) the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris.     2     (know) best for her graphic novel Persepolis, Satrapi displayed the finished tapestry at the Mobilier National, a public organization that preserves France’s state furniture and textile collections, on March 12. The     3     (impression) work of art is a triptych (三联画) crafted from wool yarn,     4     weighs about 130 pounds.

The tapestry     5     (feature) brightly colored outlines of athletes competing in various sports around the Eiffel Tower. On the left, a woman participates in the traditional javelin (标枪) throw. On the right, a skateboarder performs a trick in the air above a break dancer, implying two of     6     newest sports in the Olympics’ lineup. The tapestry took Satrapi three years to create.     9     (craftsman) at the Gobelins Manufactory, a French tapestry factory wove it. The tapestry will be exhibited at the Hôtel de la Marine in Paris     10     (begin) on June 21. After the Olympic and Paralympic Games end in September, the tapestry will travel to Nice.
