A pair of giant pandas sent as a gift from China made their first public     1    (appear)on Thursday at the Panda House at Al Khor Park in Doha ahead of the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022.

As the first giant pandas in the Middle East region, they     2    (give)two Arab names, Suhail for Jing Jing and Soraya for Si Hai,     3    meant two stars in the sky that symbolized lucky, noble and infinite value. Jing Jing and Si Hai arrived in Qatar on October 19 and went through a 21-day quarantine(隔离)     4    meeting the public.

They will stay in Qatar in the next 15 years according to the agreement     5    (sign) by the two sides.

Chinese Ambassador to Qatar Zhou Jian emphasized that the arrival of the giant pandas is     6     milestone of the China and Qatar relationship. “It not only carries the best wishes of 1.4 billion Chinese people to the Qatar World Cup,     7    also demonstrates the full support of China for Qatar to host the game,” Zhou added. “The giant pandas will     8     (sure) deepen the friendship between the two countries and expand cooperation in various       9    (field), becoming a new symbol of China-Qatar relations.” Zhou also noted that the giant pandas have received thoughtful care since they moved in,     10    (add)that they can understand certain Sichuan dialect for the moment.

Seventeen young turtles (海龟) were sent back into the wild by a class of Kindergarten students at the Jersey Shore.

It was part of a program     1     has saved thousands of turtles and returned them to the wild over the past 25 years. The turtles either were raised from the eggs of their dead mothers     2     were themselves rescued from roads or other dangerous places.

“It’s a great community connection,” said Lisa Ferguson, who was the     3     (direct) of research and conservation at the Wetlands Institute.

The Wetlands Institute runs the program along with Stockton University and Stone Harbor schools. “It shows how conservation works and that everyone     4     (have) a part to play, from adults down     5     kindergarten students.”

“We lose 550 adult female turtles each year to road kill,” Ferguson said of her area in the southern New Jersey marshlands near the ocean.

Aside from     6     (collect) eggs from females killed on the road and incubating them at 30 degrees Celsius, the Wetlands Institute cares for     7     (injure) live turtles.

Stockton also incubates eggs and cares for the turtles in the first year of     8    (they) lives. When they have grown enough, they are sent into the wetlands near the institute.
