A herd(兽群) of 14 wild Asian elephants     1     (wander) around in Southwest China’s Yunnan province is approaching their traditional habitat.

At about 8 pm on August 8, these elephants crossed the Yuanjiang River with artificial guidance, according to the headquarters (总部) in charge of observing their migration.

The herd could not have crossed the Yuanjiang River without help as the water level rises in the rainy season. More efforts will be made     2     (ensure) the security of the herd on their way back, according to the headquarters.

It     3     (be) around 17 months since the herd left their     4     (origin) habitat in a nature reserve in Yunnan’s Xishuangbanna Dai Autonomous Prefecture.

Wild Asian elephants, a species in     5     rainforest, are under A-level state     6     (protect) in China. They mainly feed     7     understory (下层) plants such as wild bananas. They can     8     (replace) by numerous non-edible woody plants     9     (gradual) that facilitate forest expansion, said Xiang Ruwu, a wildlife official with the local bureau of forestry. Thanks to stronger environmental and wildlife conservation efforts, they have paved the way for saving the wild elephants,     10     population in the country has grown to about 300 so far.

The number of wild animals has been increasing in Beijing, and this year the municipal authority (市政当局) will release the first list of important habitats for wildlife as part of efforts to create a more suitable and    1    (ecology) environment for wild species. There    2    (be) 13 habitats in the first list.

With 596 species of terrestrial wild animals including birds, insects and vertebrates, Beijing has become one of the most biodiverse     3     (city) in the world, according to a report by China Central Television (CCTV).

“More wild animals were found not only in rural areas or mountainous areas in the capital city but also in urban settings and living together with people,    4     means the environment for wild animals in Beijing is getting better.” Deng Wenhong, professor of Beijing Normal University,    5    (tell) CCTV.

A Beijing photographer captured a scene of two golden eagles flying back     6    forth to the mountainside,     7    (grab) at a sheep and flying into the sky in Fangshan district. The golden eagle is    8    national first-class protected animal.

To make wildlife    9    (protect) better, the authority has not only set the list of habitats but also published a list of wild animals under special conservation, listing 150 kinds of wild animals,     10     January 13, 2023.

Every driver is familiar with the dreaded blind spot problem. However, it is more than just     1     annoyance. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, over 840,000 car     2     (accident) occurred due to the blind spot. Those zones which cannot be directly     3    (observe) by the driver often cause incidents that result     4     serious property damage and in some cases even fatalities（死亡）. While drivers can take precautions such as adjusting the driver’s seat and side mirrors     5     (proper), installing backup cameras and so on, they won’t eliminate（消除） the     6     (visible) spots completely. Therefore, the driver will always have to carry the     7     (responsible) of being constantly aware of blind spots as failing to do that can lead to accidents.

Luckily, now there’s a solution for that and it comes from a 14-year-old girl,     8     doesn’t even have a driver’s license yet.
