5G is the fifth generation of network technology. It is expected to bring unbelievable speeds to Internet users, with some operations running 10 times faster than on 4G networks. 5G is also expected to unlock the potential in a lot of new services, including artificial intelligence, science of robots self-driving cars, and the Internet of things.
The GSMA said that China's three major mobile operators-China Unicorn, China Mobile, and China Telecom-are already moving ahead with 5G networks. While most nations will have 5G by updating existing foundations, the study noted that China plans to build part of its 5G networks.
One of the most distinguishing(显著的) factors between Chinese mobile operators and those in the rest of the world is the intention to erect the new and independent 5G networks. That is, China is determined to build a completely advanced 5G. The high cost underlines China's seriousness about paying whatever it takes.
Korea will lead the world in terms of 5G penetration in 2025, when 66 percent of the nation's total connections will be 5G, according to GSMA. This compares to 50 percent in the US, 49 percent in Japan, 36 percent in China, 30 percent in Europe, and a global average of 18 percent. Out of the five economies leading on 5G, Europe will have the lowest participation in 2025, as the area is moving more slowly in having its 5G networks.

Supporters of this idea state that it will save local cities and towns money because libraries are expensive to maintain. They also believe it will encourage more people to read because they won't have to travel to a library to get a book; they can simply click on what they want to read and read it from wherever they are.
However, it would be a serious mistake to replace libraries with tablets. First, digital books and resources are associated with less learning and more problems than print resources. A study done on tablet vs book reading found people read 20-30% slower on tablets, retain 20% less information, and understand 10% less of what they read compared to people who read the same information in print.
Second, it is incredibly narrow minded to assume that the only service libraries offer is book lending. Libraries have a multitude of benefits, and many are only available if the library has a physical location. Some of these benefits include acting as a quiet study space, giving people a way to converse with their neighbors, holding classes on a variety of topics, providing jobs, answering patron questions, and keeping the community connected. A survey conducted in 2015 found that nearly two-thirds of American adults feel that closing their local library would have a major impact on their community. People see libraries as a way to connect with others and get their questions answered, benefits tablets can’t offer nearly as well or as easily.
While replacing libraries with tablets may seem like a simple solution, it would encourage people to spend even more time looking at digital screens, despite the various issues surrounding them. It would also end access to many of the benefits of libraries that people have come to rely on. In many areas, libraries are such an important part of the community network that they could never be replaced by a simple object.

Sharing the story online, the man said while teaching science in 2014 and 2015, there was one girl who sat at the front of the class and was “filled with typical middle school anxiety”. She was quiet and “kept to herself”, but was always writing in a notebook during lessons.
He said, “I decided to look over her shoulder and see what she was writing. ‘I suck. I’m ugly. I’m stupid. No one likes me. I hate me. Etc.’ Without thinking, I snatched the notebook from her and started writing in it ‘you’re great; you’re beautiful; you’re intelligent; you’re loved,’ the opposite of everything she wrote, then handed it back.” He said neither of them made a big deal of it at the time, but she slowly started opening up to him, talking more and coming out of her shell in class.
Fast forward a few years, the teacher says he’s now in the navy and gets talking to a woman when serving on the other side of the country and that they discover they are from the same area. They realize he had taught at the same school her cousin attended and she asked if he remembered teaching her. After telling the story about the notebook, the woman replied, “It is you. She still has that notebook. She looks at it time to time to get her through the tough times.”
He wrote, “I was amazed. I almost started crying right there. Teachers always talk about how rare it is to hear from students in the future about how they impacted them. I only taught for a few years but I really tried and really cared. Even though that path didn’t turn out how I had planned, it’s humbling to know that I did some good in that time.”

Parental involvement in children’s school achievements can also decrease the likelihood that these children will use drugs, be suspended from school or engage in violent behavior.
Parental involvement in the academic achievements of their children increases achievement levels. Parents’ expectations of their child’s academic achievement, a structured household, and a shared respect and appreciation for learning all contribute to positive achievement outcomes in children. Additionally, it is more costly for schools to provide resources to increase students’ academic achievements than it is for parents to be more involved at home.
Parents’ involvement in children’s achievements conveys the message that those accomplishments matter, which positively affects a child’s sense of self-worth. Parents’ self-respect is also increased as they become more involved in the academic achievements of their children.
Primary school students whose parents are actively involved in their children’s educational lives have fewer behavioral issues in school. Parental involvement increases students’ enjoyment in academic activities, too, which can contribute to better behavioral outcomes. Students might also tend to behave better if they know their parents will visit the school if they are any behavioral concerns.
Children whose parents are involved in their academic achievements will have better health as adults, will be more likely to receive post-secondary education and will likely be better parents than others whose parents are not involved in their achievements. Parents who are involved in children’s academic achievements model this behavior for their children, which teaches them to value education, and ultimately influences these children to do this behavior as parents.
1. What can we infer about parental involvement from Paragraph 2?A.It’s replacement for school activities. |
B.It promotes home-school relationship. |
C.It increases parents’ expectations of their children. |
D.It’s a cheap way to improve students’ performance. |
A.It means parents are making an unnecessary move. |
B.It can replace or force their children to make efforts. |

【推荐3】I’ve been giving lots of thought recently to the teaching of the science subject at schools. I’m wondering whether spending more time learning how we “do” science--the scientific method--is more valuable than simply making children memorize scientific “facts”.
After all, science isn’t a collection of facts about the world. That’s just called “knowledge”. Rather, science is a process of thinking and making sense of the world, which will then lead to new knowledge. We’ve often heard it said that we should be teaching children not what to think but how to think. However, schools now spend so much of the science subject loading up children’s brains with “knowledge”.
Surely, everyone needs a basic scientific understanding. We all need to know some science: facts about the world to help us make informed decisions about important issues that face us all in our everyday lives, from the risks of smoking to the benefits of exercising or why recycling our waste is good for the planet.
Yet what seems to be missing today is an understanding of the way we gain this scientific understanding of the world. Nowadays, social media has played a significant role in spreading information. However, many people use it as a medium for spreading disinformation or harmful opinions. But social media has only enlarged the societal problem that has been with us.
On top of this, our attention spans (时长) are naturally getting shorter, and we don’t take the time to question our views, or ask whether the information we are getting is reliable. This is where thinking scientifically can help. Adopting some of the ways that good science is practiced can help us to critically assess what we believe, question our own views before we attack views we don’t like, and so on. This is exactly why we should be teaching more of scientific methods in schools. This remarkable way of seeing, thinking and knowing, is one of humankind’s great riches and the birthright of everyone. And, most wonderfully, it only grows in quality and value the more widely it is shared.
