Everyone has an experience they would rather forget. Some are embarrassing, some are moving, and some teach us a lesson. Here is a story of mine.
Last Sunday I went fishing. After setting up my fishing rod(钓鱼竿) with bait(钓鱼的饵). I sat down on the bank of the lake. But two hours later, I didn’t catch any fish. I got very angry and began to pack up my stuff, preparing to go back home.
Just then, I saw an old man sitting near me. To my surprise, his basket was full of fish, so I went over to him, wanting to know why. “Excuse me, but how long have you sat here?” I asked. “About four hours,” he answered. “Four hours?” I couldn’t believe my ears. “Yes. It’s very important to be patient,” the old man said. “Don’t consider fishing a tiring sport. Just enjoy it.” Suddenly, I understand what he said. I must learn to be patient. Then I sat there and waited for fish patiently. I felt a fish touch the bait, but I didn’t move and waited for the right moment to reel it in(卷收钓鱼线).At last, I caught it. This made me very happy. In the following six hours, I caught over 10 fish.
On my way home, I thought what had happened on the bank. I gradually realized that the secret of success was patience.

I looked out at the smiling faces packed into the school hall. Flashes from cameras lit up in all directions. The applause filled my cars. I had done it. I had really done it.
Just a few months earlier, I would never have pictured myself acting in, a play in front of two hundred people. But when the time came, I got up on stage and faced one of my greatest fears-and-proved I could do more than I ever gave myself credit for. I found a new person inside me, a much more daring, outgoing person who had been hidden all along, just waiting for the opportunity to appear.
If not for my teacher, Mrs. Sather, I might never have found that opportunity.
In the first and second grade, I was extremely shy. I had friends, but it just wasn't in my personality to be very outgoing, even when I knew someone well. I was afraid I would do or say something wrong, so usually I just smiled and listened to other people's conversations. I did well in school and I loved to write. However, I would escape into my writing, where I could be myself and never had to worry about what other people thought of me. In my stories, I was never shy.
My teacher, Mrs. Sather, always encouraged me to write more. She told our class to go after our dreams and dig in with both hands. I think she was one of the first people to see my inner strength. One day, she announced that our class was going to perform a play she had written." 'll begin to cast everyone tomorrow," she said." I need someone who is not afraid to be on stage in front of the public to play the lead part of Dorothy. Anybody want to try?" A few excited hands shot up—mice, of course, was not one of them—ad Mrs. Sather smiled." We'll talk more about it tomorrow," she said. Then the bell rang and my classmates slowly left the classroom.

The school’s annual Animal Day performance is coming. How much happiness will it bring to the teachers and students? Jamie wandered. As a lively and humorous student, Jamie often makes his classmates burst into laughter with his humor, sometimes even in class. But now, he sat in his English class, mindlessly doodling (涂鸦) on his notebook, when suddenly a notice came from the loudspeaker of the classroom.
“Jamie Turner, please report to the head master’s office immediately.”
Jamie’s heart sank, not knowing what it was for. When he reached the headmaster’s office he took a deep breath and prepared himself for the worst. But what he found was far beyond his expectations. The headmaster, Mr. Harrison was wearing a giant yellow chicken hat on his head. The hat had red combs, white feathers, and wings that covered his ears. Jamie’s mouth fell open at the sight, too shocked to speak.
Mr. Harrison glanced at Jamie over his reading glasses, “I’ve called you here because we’ve been having some complaints about your behavior.”
“Complaints?” Jamie repeated, trying to keep his voice steady.
“Yes,” he said, nodding seriously. “You’ve been…too funny.”
He leaned forward, “You see, we’re getting reports from your classmates that you’re constantly making them laugh in class. They can’t focus on learning.”
Jamie’s jaw dropped further. Was that really the reason he was called to the headmaster’s office?
The principal continued, his tone serious “Now, we take our education very seriously here, and while we appreciate a good sense of humor, we have to draw the line somewhere. We cannot have students spoiling the learning environment with their…their humor. Well, just …just make sure you keep your jokes to a minimum during class time, okay?”
Jamie nodded promising he would try to be less funny in class. “Um, Mr. Harrison, why are you wearing a chicken hat?” Jamie asked, unable to contain his curiosity. Mr. Harrison told Jamie that he would play the part of a chicken at the school’s Animal Day performance. Jamie grinned, imagining the sight of his normally serious principal acting like a chicken.
