【推荐1】Happiness is important for everyone. Most people want to be happy but few know how to find happiness. Money and success don’t bring long-lasting happiness. Happiness depends on ourselves. In other words, we make our own happiness.

Some people believe that if they are wealthy, with the money they will be able to do anything they want, which means happiness. On the other hand, some people believe that holding a high position in the government is happiness. In this way, you have not only money, but also many other things which can’t be bought by money. However, other people believe that having lots of money is not happiness, nor is holding a high position in the government. These people value (重视) their beliefs, or their intelligence, or their health. They think these can make them happy.

Here are a few ways to help you be happier.

The first secret of happiness is to enjoy the simple things in life. Too often, we spend so much time thinking about the future, for example, getting into college or getting a good job that we don’t enjoy the present. You should enjoy life’s simple pleasures, such as reading a good book, listening to your favorite music, or spending time with close friends. People who have close friends usually enjoy happier and healthier lives.

The second secret of happiness is to be active. Many people go dancing or play sports. People can forget about their problems and only think about the activities.

Finally, many people find happiness in helping others. According to studies, people feel good when they volunteer their time to do many meaningful things for other people. If you want to feel happier, do something nice for someone. You can help a friend with his or her studies, go shopping to get food for an old neighbor, or simply help around the house.

Now maybe you know how to find happiness!

【推荐2】You can choose happiness regardless of your circumstances. You can choose to be happy no matter what challenges life brings you. Let the following simple strategies guide you back to your natural happy state.

Make lemonade when life gives you lemons.

Besides happiness, trouble will also be part of life. It’s how you choose to react to your situations that make the difference. If you look at something hard enough, you’ll see the positive side of it.

Do what you love doing.

Do you have a lifelong dream or desire? If so, start working towards it. Taking baby steps towards a goal will help you feel like you’re accomplishing something. You’ll find drive and determination to reach that goal when it’s something you love doing.

Use one of your talents.

One reason why so many people are unhappy is that they’re not doing what they’re called to do with their God-given talents. Each of us has a purpose in life. You have natural talents to help you achieve your purpose, so use your talents effectively.

Call a friend who you know is positive and cheerful.

Talk about your feelings and listen to their advice. Usually, people allow themselves to go deeper and deeper into self-depression. The truth is that you don’t have to be sad. You can decide to be happy. You just have to make up your mind to do so.

Gratitude is the quickest cure for sadness.

When you focus on what’s wrong with your life, you forget to look at what’s right and good. Take a step back and reflect on your life. Do you have children or family to be thankful for? Yes, they may not be the person we’d like them to be, but imagine life without them. Now, be thankful that you have them in your life.

Let your feelings out on paper.

Often you’ll find that just getting your feelings down on paper will allow you to work through them, helping you feel better about yourself and your beautiful life!

【推荐3】Bangladesh’s floating gardens, built to grow food during flood seasons, could offer a continuous solution for parts of the world which are likely to suffer from flooding because of climate change, a new study has found.

Bangladesh’s floating gardens began hundreds of years ago. The gardens are made from native plants that float in the rivers and operate almost like rafts (筏), rising and falling with the waters. Historically, they were used to continue growing food during rainy seasons when rivers were filled with water.

But as climate change caused floods, the researchers wanted to know whether Bangladesh’s floating gardens could be a continuous farming practice. They interviewed farming families and found strong evidence that floating gardens provide stability, both in the amount of food to feed rural people and in a farming family’s income.

They found that farmers usually use hybrid (杂交植物) seeds, which must be bought each year, to grow different vegetables in the floating gardens. The gardens are also sensitive to pests so farmers end up spending some money on both pesticides (杀虫剂). But even with these expenses, they found, benefits outweighed costs. One farmer told the research team that he earns up to four times as much money from the gardens as from traditional rice fields.

However, before making money, farmers often take out high-interest loans to cover the investment costs. Luckily, there are also lower-interest loans from responsible government or non-governmental organizations, which could ease that burden.

1. What did the new study find about Bangladesh’s floating gardens?
A.They could grow more food during floods.
B.They protect Bangladesh from being flooded.
C.They provide places to grow food in rainy seasons.
D.They serve as a temporary (暂时的) way to grow food.
2. What might be a reply from farming families mentioned in Paragraph 3?
A.“Our life becomes tough when rivers flood.”
B.“Fewer vegetables are planted when water rises.”
C.“We harvest much more food during rainy seasons.”
D.“Climate change has little influence on our income.”
3. What does the underlined word "outweighed" in paragraph 5 mean?
A.Affected.B.Brought.C.Beat.D.Equaled
4. What can be a suitable title for the text?
A.A Tough Enemy Farmers.B.A Lasting Way to Grow Food.
C.An Effective System for Profit.D.An Interesting Interview about Hybrid.
