The spider monkey has long, thin arms with hook-like hands that allow it to swing (摇摆) through the trees. It has a prehensible (缠绕性的) tail, which means it can grasp and can be used like a     1    (five) leg to grab trees. During the day, the spider monkey searches     2     fruits, which make up the main part of its diet. They will also eat flowers, seeds, leaves, and small insects during the dry season     3     fruits aren’t available. They spend most of the daylight hours climbing and swinging through the high branches of trees.

The brown-headed spider monkey lives in a large community of about 20 to 100 male and female monkeys. Females     4    (normal) give birth to only a single baby each year or two. Young monkeys are carried on their mothers’     5    (stomach) until about 16 weeks old. Then they are strong enough     6    (ride) on their mothers’ backs.

Spider monkeys hug each other and wrap their tails around each other. They are very     7    (intelligence) and have strong memories. They are named spider monkeys     8     they look like spiders as they hang upside down from their tails with their arms and legs     9     (swing).

Now hunting the brown-headed spider monkey is forbidden in Ecuador,     10     country in northwestern South America, but humans have killed them for their meat for hundreds of years.

Over the years I’ve been teaching kids about a simple but powerful concept — the ant philosophy.

They have    1    amazing four-part philosophy. First, ants never quit. They’ll climb over, they’ll climb under, and they’ll climb around. They keep looking for another way.     2    a neat (了不起的) philosophy it is to never quit     3     (look) for a way to get where you are supposed to go! Second, ants think about winter and summer. That’s an important attitude. You can’t be     4     naive (幼稚的) as to think summer will last forever. People     5     have a little experience are clear about this. So ants are gathering in their winter food in the middle of summer. It’s important to be     6     (real). You have to think about rocks as you enjoy the sand and sun. Think ahead. The third part is that ants think summer all winter. During the winter, they remind     7     (them), “This won’t last long; we’ll soon be out of here.” And     8     the first warm day, the ants are out. If it turns cold again, they’ll dive back down. But they come out again if it is warm. They can’t wait to get out. Last, how much will an ant gather during the summer     9    (prepare) for the winter? All that it     10    (possible) can.

What a great philosophy to have — the ant philosophy: never give up, look ahead, stay positive and do all you can.

Nowadays, there exists a common phenomenon. A man walks along the sidewalk, a smartphone in hand and completely     1     (absorb) in the digital world. With the Internet, parents cannot check a published guide     10     (determine) what is suitable for their children to see.

In the age of fragmented time, TikTok, which is a massive hit in China right now, can perfectly fill in the gaps when people have nothing     1     (good) to do between two events; its daily plays     2     (spread) over one billion in the past few years. The Vine-like app allows users to produce creative short videos that combine music with mouth shapes or body moves. They can dance, sing, cook or do     3     their hearts desire.

On the platform, childish and strange behaviors are     8     (true) acceptable.
