Ways to Save the Ocean

It’s no doubt that the ocean needs our help.    1    Only through building collective power can we force states and corporations to take responsibility for the damage they’ve caused to the planet.

Still, however much we understand that reducing and recycling is not enough, small actions can help us save the ocean. With this in mind, we’ve rounded up some simple actions we can all take to save the ocean.    2    There are also other ways to save the ocean.

Commit to a plastic-free lifestyle. So, in order to help save the ocean, many people are committing to a plastic-free lifestyle. The United Nations (UN) has even encouraged the public to think about how they deal with plastic and the ways they can live without it, or replace it:    3    If you really need to use plastic, recycle it responsibly.

Turn your food waste into compost (混合肥料). Composting food waste is an easy way to reduce methane (甲烷). Not only does compost reduce methane production, it can also help you fertilize your personal garden.    4    When you go shopping, stick to a prewritten grocery list and buy unwrapped products.

5    Try investing in energy-efficient appliances, eating locally sourced food, walking or riding a bike, conserving water, and shutting of flights when you aren’t using them. Sure, these are small actions—especially when compared to the big carbon footprints of big-name corporations—but these changes can add up.

A.Reduce your carbon footprints.
B.Use those reusable things in your daily life.
C.And try decreasing your food waste by shopping locally
D.Just remember: the fight for saving the ocean doesn’t end here.
E.Of course, there are many other essential organizations in the world.

【推荐1】Tests can be worrying even for the most prepared students. When some students take tests, their minds don’t work as well as usual. They may experience something called test anxiety (焦虑), which can have a negative influence on their performance. Well, the following tips can help you pass your next test more easily and achieve more success!

Get Enough Sleep

6 hours of sleep or less can slow your mind and thus has negative effects on your performance on tests, even if you spend those missed hours of sleep studying. So, it’s very important for you to get a good night of sleep before your big day.

Study Smarter

How do you study ‘smarter’? Make a list of the things you need to learn in order of importance. That way, if you don’t have enough time, you can still hit the items at the top of the list. Make a list of all the work you have to do, judge how much time each item will take, and compare that with the number of hours you have available; this will tell you whether you can read carefully or just skim, how much time you can spend checking papers, and tell you other ways to pace yourself so you can get everything done. If your time is still limited, it’s important to learn to let go of being perfect.

Visualize (想象) Success

Before you fall asleep each night, it is a great way to visualize yourself taking the tests and doing wonderfully. Detailed visualizations can help you feel like you’re really experiencing something, and visualizing yourself doing well is a way to ‘practice’ success in a way that can help you perform better and feel confident. Visualizations can also help you to remember the facts.

Stay Calm

Anxiety can harm your memory, so it’s important to stay calm before and during tests. While that’s easier said than done, there are several techniques that can help you calm down quickly whenever you feel nervous. For example, breathing exercise has been shown by research to reduce test anxiety, and can be very effective in helping you relax: just take deep breaths and let the anxiety come out.

文章大意:本文是一篇说明文。主要介绍的是几个关于如何倾听青少年抱怨的建议。
【推荐3】How to Listen to a Teen’s Complaints

As your child reaches his teen years, he’s likely experiencing a conflict   (冲突) between his social and family lives. This often causes frequent complaining (抱怨).     1     By listening to your teen’s complaints in an active way, you make your relationship better and allow for better joint decisionmaking.

2    You can see complaints from your teen as natural and positive, though the actual content of what he says might be negative (负面的). Believe that listening to your teen’s complaints is a chance to know your teen better. By psychologically preparing yourself in this way, the conversation will go forward more easily.

Accept your teen’s feelings. Understand that your teen’s complaining behavior might be wrong but that his feelings are never wrong. Recognize that negative emotions are natural and do not easily fall under the control of teens or even adults. Note that your teen is at least handling his negative emotions in the right way — through words.     3

Listen patiently and carefully.     4     Listen for the words in his complaints, such as “I am sick of this” or “It’s unfair to me”. This often shows his feelings. Through body language or eye contact, show your teen you are listening to him carefully.

React to your teen’s complaints.     5     If you disagree, explain why. Finish the conversation by praising him for coming to you and expressing himself.

A.Do you think your reply is right?
B.Allow your teen to express his dissatisfaction.
C.Prepare yourself to listen to something negative.
D.This is normal but not something parents should ignore.
E.Parents should figure out what causes his complaints.
F.If you agree with his complaints, discuss ways to solve the problem.
