【推荐2】Max Du won the Canada-Wide Science Fair. His project is a drone (无人机) to save people who go into cardiac (心脏的) arrest. Max got the inspiration during Christmas break last year. “I got a toy drone from my parents, but I couldn’t fly it because it is snowy.” Max said. “So I played with it at home, and it got me thinking how a drone could be used as an indoor robot that could help people.”

About 35, 000 people have cardiac arrests in Canada each year. Most of those happen outside of a hospital, of whom fewer than 10 percent survive. Max believed a drone could offer faster support and life-saving medicine, but he had to build it himself to know for sure.

Testing his drone took about six months. Max’s parents had to deal with their son’s constantly flying and crashing in the home. Every time Max would create an exciting innovation, such as an extendable arm, it would add extra weight to his drone, causing it to break apart. Then Max would have to buy all new parts. Max tested using more lightweight materials until his design was more balanced.

Through trial and error, the 14-year-old boy finally got it right. His drone can open a door handle, fly in the air and then land softly on the ground. A new extendable arm can be released to administer a shot or hand a patient lifesaving medicine. A built-in camera could directly conference with an emergency response team whose members could monitor the patient remotely.

Max plans on applying for a patent (专利) so he can make connections in the health-care industry to get it made for real. He’s spent his summer learning about artificial intelligence at California’s Stanford University as one of 32 kids selected worldwide. He’ll head next to the University of Pennsylvania to take a college-level robotics class before returning to high school in September.

【推荐2】Today, the original Beetle has largely disappeared from the world’s roads since Volkswagen stopped producing it in Germany in 1978. But the instantly recognizable car was once everywhere. From the 1970s to the 1990s, more than 21 million Beetles were produced worldwide. Many adults in their 40s or above have a story about the Beetle, or at least a memory.

Part of its universal appeal is its unique look. There’s something about the car that just makes people smile: its happy shape, its cheerful colors, and perhaps its small size. However, the smiles that beetles evoke, in people are not simply due to their design. It has a character almost. It has a sort of soul in a way. It’s beyond a machine. For the better part of a century this car has been a part in people’s lives. Seeing these cars on the road is like a time capsule. It opens people to memories and stories that might otherwise go untold. By allowing us to travel back in time, they remind us of what’s important. In today’s world, this car represents something very basic and earthy and genuine. Exactly the kind of travel we need right now.

“My parents had three, a white one, then a red one, and then an orange one. It was the car I grew up with,” said actor Ewan McGregor. “They would put us in the back of the Beetle in Scotland and drive to France for camping holidays in summer. My first car was a 1978 Beetle and now I own two, parked at my home in Los Angeles.”

McGregor thinks the car’s future is electric. He has recently turned his 1978 model into a fully electric car. “Moving forward, maybe we’ll just have to think; smaller cars, low emissions (排放), and something that makes us feel happy,” he says.

As he went there, he ran back to tell everyone that he’d seen some bright lights in the sky and that everyone should go to look at the impressive scene. All the members of the Suttons stepped outside the house.

Billy and Clan told the reporter, “It was a shining, three-and-a-half-foot-tall being with an oversized head, big and pointed ears, shining yellow eyes, and hands with talons(爪)at their ends. The figure was either made of or simply dressed in slivery metal with its hands raised.”

After seeing these figures coming out of the woods and showing the universal sign of attacking, the Suttons could not think of else, but tried to kill the creatures.

As they shot at the creatures which had no protection with their guns, they said that they had heard some sounds as if the aliens(外星人)were wearing some kind of metal coat. They said that the aliens turned round quickly and escaped into the darkness when shot at.

No one knows what exactly happened to them, but since the Sutton family was high in spirits, they might have seen another creature. As Ufologist Renaud Leclet stated, it could be a misidentification(误认)of a pair of owls（猫头鹰）which appear at night, flying silently, have yellow shining eyes and defend their nests.

How far the above explanation is true, we are still unsure.

【推荐3】As a child, Fischer loved going to the beach and riding bikes along the coastline with his father, Karl Fischer. So when he lost his dad to pancreatic cancer, he turned to the healing power of the ocean.

At the start of this year, Fischer wrote his father’s name on his surfboard and took it out to sea in Newport, Rhode Island. His father’s name shone in the sun on what felt like a shared adventure. Inspired, Fischer made a video and posted it on social media the same day. “If you love the ocean, or you know someone who loves the ocean, or maybe you lost someone who just loved being outdoors..., you can comment on this video with their name and a bit of their story, and I’ll put their name on my board here, just like I’ve done with my father’s name,” he said in the video. “And I’ll take them out in the ocean for you.”

Names poured in from thousands of strangers grieving (悲伤) the loss of loved ones. And with that, the One Last Wave Project was born, the aim of which was to exchange stories with a community of people going through the same pain. They were essentially healing together. About two months later, Fischer had received over 5,000 names and written most of them on two surfboards. The first two surfboards ran out of space — he’s working on getting more. He wrote the names in neat letters on the surfboard and put a clear acrylic (丙烯酸) coat over them so they didn’t wash off.

Though a lot of people have been struggling with grief in the pandemic, Fischer was amazed by the responses that have poured in. “If I am able to help one person or one person shares their name, that is enough for me,” he said. “But I am blown away — by not just the number of people sharing, but the depth of stories and love that they are sharing.” And he plans to take his project around the world and connect with even more people — through shared grief and the power of the ocean.
