【推荐1】How to Reduce Your Dog’s Separation Issues
Today, people are working from home more than ever. As a result, many dogs are enjoying a lot more time with, and attention from, their owners. Dog adoption rates have skyrocketed as people seek enjoyment and extra companionship.
Teach puppies alone time
Dogs are social creatures and need to learn coping skills to be comfortable when they are left unattended.
Play some music
Choose classical or easy listening music, since the idea is to help calm your dog.
Dogs like routine because it makes them feel secure. Setting up and maintaining an exercise routine will be important once you start leaving home more. This is especially important for adolescent dogs and active breeds. Think about the amount of exercise you are giving your dog now and ask yourself how much exercise you will be able to maintain if circumstances change.
Establish good chew habits
Teach your puppy or dog what is acceptable for them to chew.
A.Create a routine |
B.Guarantee more exercise |
C.Don’t let your puppy follow you from room to room. |
D.Otherwise, they may become anxious when they are alone. |
E.But what will happen when life eventually returns to normal? |
F.Only give them toys that are clearly distinguishable from household items. |
G.Radio programs can also work but not if the background music is too loud. |

The village of Potthakudi contains only 120 homes and has a total of 35 streetlights. Unfortunately ,the misguided mama bird had decided to set up housekeeping in the town’s main lighting switchboard (配电板).
The nest and its inhabitants were first discovered by Karuppu Raja, the man tasked with turning on the streetlights each evening. A lifelong bird lover, Raja posted his find to local social media to warn the citizens of his discovery and ask for their cooperation in taking a hands-off approach to the unexpected guests.
“Switching off the lights is the only solution because the bird will fly once it realizes there is a human touch or contact near its nest,” Raja wrote on WhatsApp. “We should save the bird and its babies at any cost.”
While some initially voiced concerns that lack of nighttime illumination (照明) would be inconvenient ,Raja was eventually able to persuade his fellow villagers that any sacrifice would be worth it in the long run. “I explained that so many birds have died out and we should not let Indian Robin go the same way,” Raja recalled.
So, rather than ousted the bird, the villagers agreed to observe a blackout (断电) until the baby birds were old enough to fly away. The town spent a total of 45 days and nights in the dark, even disconnecting the switchboard from the power source to keep the mom and her chicks safe.
After mama Robin and her babies finally took off, the blackout was lifted, but the village’s extraordinary protection efforts for the sake of one lone bird and her babies didn’t go unnoticed.
A bird in the hand may be worth two in the bush, but a bird in the switchboard has earned Potthakudi a reputation for kindness that’s likely to light up smiles for quite some time to come.

He would go out and do his things, and then come back and hang out inside until his next need for an outside visit arose.
When Julien, my second cat, showed up in 2013, having two cats wanting in and out at different times was more difficult. After careful consideration, I finally decided to put in a cat door. It allowed KK and Julien to come and go as they wanted without waking me up at 5 am to go outside or at 5:10 am to come back inside. It also saved my door, which KK was always abusing(虐待) as his way of letting me know I was being too slow in opening the door for him or not responsive(应答的) at all.
When my mother passed away in the spring of 2014, leaving her young cat without a forever home, I decided to take her. Once being an indoor/ outdoor cat, Sissy obviously didn't want to suddenly to be kept indoors. She also wanted to be able to get away from the other two cats, as she was used to being in a single cat home.
After KK, Julien and Sissy had all become used to their life of coming and going as they pleased, it pretty much guaranteed(保证) that all future cats would have the same right. And now have seven cats that come and go as they please. Letting my cats go outdoors isn't due to my not caring or getting them out of my head. On the contrary, it is because I love them so much and want them to have the best life possible.
1. What can we learn from Paragraph 1?A.KK preferred to stay outdoors. |
B.KK refused to be kept as a pet. |
C.KK brought lots of trouble to the author. |

Using “deep learning”, Shimon was taught to write his own music. He could not only make up his own music, but do it in real time, while playing with other musicians. This is called “improvising”.
Now he is back with a whole bunch of new tricks. He can write the words to his own songs, and sing them. Shimon learned to write the words for the songs the same way he learned to write music — by being “fed” thousands of examples. Shimon was trained on the lyrics (歌词) to 50,000 songs.
Georgia Tech professor Gil Weinberg, who leads the Shimon project, gets Shimon going with a starting idea. Shimon then writes the lyrics based around that idea. Mr. Weinberg usually provides much of the music for the songs, but Shimon helps out there, too.
Singing the songs is another story. To give Shimon a voice, the Georgia Tech team worked with experts at Pompeu Fabra University. The voice was created using AI and sounds very much like a man.
Later this spring, the team plans to put out an album of about 8-10 of Shimon’s songs. The album will be released on the music streaming service Spotify. There are also plans for Shimon to go on tour with a band to play and sing his songs live.
For Mr. Weinberg, that’s the main goal behind the Shimon Project — not to have robots take over, but to have robots and humans make something beautiful together.
1. What’s the main purpose of Paragraph 1?A.To describe what the robot looks like. |
B.To tell readers how Shimon performs. |
C.To arouse readers’ curiosity to read further. |
D.To advertise functions of the robot Shimon. |
A.Writing music. | B.Releasing albums. |

B.By copying songs. |
C.By feeding himself. |
D.By teaching himself. |
A.Have Shimon achieve more amazing skills. |

Greyhounds are good at fast races but not long-distance running. They do need regular exercise but they like to run for a short burst and then get back on the bed or a comfortable seat. Another misunderstanding is that greyhounds must be aggressive (好斗的) because they are big in size. In fact, greyhounds love people and are gentle with children.
Greyhounds can live for 12-14 years but usually only race for two or three years, and after that they make great pets. They don’t need a lot of space, don’t make a lot of noise, and don’t eat a lot for their size.
Normally, greyhounds can be as tall as 90 cm. There is, however, a small-sized greyhound, which stands only 33 cm. Greyhounds come in a variety of colors. Grey and yellowish-brown are the most common. Others include black, white, blue, red and brown or a mix of these.
Greyhounds have smooth body coats, low body fat and are very healthy. Because they’re slim (苗条的) they don’t have the leg problems like other dogs the same height. But they do feel the cold. Especially they would much rather be at home in bed than walking around outside.
1. The text is written mainly________.A.to tell people how to raise greyhounds |
B.to let people know more about greyhounds |
C.to explain why greyhounds are aggressive |

When he was a boy, Watson stayed on a farm. He loved to see the animals. He said that they gave so much to people. And all the animals were so friendly. Then, one day, he saw a man killing a pig. He was very sad. From then on, Watson decided that he would never again eat meat. Twenty years later he decided that he wouldn’t eat anything from animals, such as milk, cheese or eggs. He became a vegan.
Watson formed a group called “The Vegan Society”. In its newspaper, The Vegan Society thought it was terrible and wrong to eat food from animals. At first, there were not many people who agreed with him. They thought it was crazy to do it. Most people thought it was too difficult and unhealthy. However, over time, more and more people began to agree with Watson and The Vegan Society.
People become vegans for many reasons. Watson and his friend stopped eating because they loved animals. They believed that it was wrong to hurt another living thing.
Now, people also become vegans for environmental reasons. Keeping animals takes a lot of resources, including water and food. Also, in some places, people are cutting down trees to create more land for cows. By avoiding food from animals, vegans hope to protect these forest areas.
Finally, just like Watson, some people believe that being a vegan is healthier. They believe that food from animals causes heart problems, a high body weight and many other health problems.
