So, do you want to know how to read classic books? Maybe you are excited to deal with classic literature but you don’t know where to start.     1     Here are some tips for enjoying classic literature and helping you get started.

Slow down the pace. The biggest difference between modern literature and classic literature is the pace. Modern reading can often feel like a short race.     2     If you try to apply short race techniques to a long distance run you will get tired pretty quickly. Well, the same is true with reading classic books.

3     One of the challenges when you start to read classics book is the language style. Words and phrases that are out of date or no longer relevant can make the writing difficult to understand. As it’s just not the way things are written or what is being talked about, it is common to jump over concepts that we don’t understand or words that we’ve never come across before. But, the key to reading classic books and enjoying them is taking time to understand them. So don’t shy away from looking things up.

Listen to the audio(有声的)book. Sometimes the best way to devote yourself to a classic book is to listen to it. Many classic books were intended to be read aloud. Books used to be very expensive, so people shared them. This meant that a family might gather together to listen to a few chapters every night.     4

Choose your favourite. Finally, the key to reading classic books and actually enjoying them is to choose one that actually appeals to you. Classic Books can get mixed up into a single genre(流派)“Classic”.     5     Think about what you already love reading and look for books that suit your interest.

A.Look up dates and history.
B.But that’s really not the case.
C.Don’t be afraid to look things up.
D.However, classic literature is more of a marathon.
E.A character list can keep who is related to whom in check.
F.Listening to audio books is a lovely way to continue that tradition.
G.Or perhaps you’ve tried reading classics before and don’t really get the main points.

【推荐1】How to Use a Modern Public Library

Has it been a while since your last visit to a public library? If so, you may be surprised to learn that libraries have changed for the better. It’s been years since they were dusty little rooms with books. They have transformed themselves into places where you can develop your love of knowledge, meet interesting people, or find out how to start a business.

Check out a book. While libraries still loan out (出借) books, you’ll find it easier to get a copy of whatever you’re looking for, thanks to a cooperative network of area libraries. Via such networks, libraries share their books with each other through the use of delivery vehicles. Once the book you’ve requested is delivered to the nearest branch, they will inform you by e-mail, so you can pick it up.

Check out other items. The library is now a multimedia zone, loaded with information in many formats (载体形式). You can borrow movies on DVDs, music on CDs, and popular magazines. Some libraries even loan out toys and games. If a popular magazine you want isn’t offered and the library keeps a list of such requests, they may bring it in when enough interest is shown.

Join targeted reading groups. Libraries will often hold reading-group sessions aimed at various age groups. Perhaps you’d like to learn a language or improve your English. The library may sponsor a language group you could join. If you have difficulties reading, ask about special reading opportunities. Your library might be able to accommodate you. And you might find it relaxing to bring your small kid to a half-hour Story Time while you sit quietly in a comer with a good book.

Start a business using the help of your local library. If you want to have a business your own, your local library can become a launch space for it. In library books computers, you can find information on starting a business. Many libraries will help you with locally supplied information about business management shared through chambers of commerce(商会)and government agencies, and they will offer printing, faxing and database services you need.

B.By giving access to online reading at a library branch.

2. What can the parent do when taking a small kid to a half-hour Story Time?

D.Meet their program sponsor.
3. What is the purpose of the passage?

【推荐2】Keeping our kids, particularly our teens, reading all summer long is easier said than done.     1

Write a story together.     2    Create your own characters and a crazy plot. Also, you can add photos or graphic design images to your story.

Research the Summer Reading List. Association for Library Service to Children, is a wonderful resource for not only summer reading suggestions but for engaging your child in the fantastic world of books all year long. Each year, the ALSC compiles an exciting list of suggested summer reads for teens. You can check this year’s list with your teens.    3    Now head over to your local library and check them out. It’s fun for parents to read these titles as well.

4    There are many popular, published titles that are not only in print but have also been made into bestselling movies. List out some ideas such as the Harry Potter series and pick a weekend where you and your child can read the book then kick back and watch the movie.

Check Out Goodreads Teen Reading List. Often, the required reads hold absolutely no interest to them and the entire summer reading experience is painful and dull.     5    Here they just might find a title that arouse their interest and keeps them reading all year long.

A.And don’t forget the popcorn!
B.Here are 4 ways you can follow.
C.Create a Reading/Movie Weekend.
D.Discuss the titles and why they might make an interesting choice.
E.Suggest that your teen look at the popular list available on Goodreads.
F.Sometimes it’s a lot more fun to read something you’ve written yourself.
G.High Schoolers leave the classroom in June knowing that they have to fulfill their summer reading list

【推荐3】Let's be honest here: random acts of kindness make us feel good. They make others feel good. They help benefit society in small ways, and those small benefits can turn into huge ones. Being an everyday hero means willingly and joyfully choosing random acts of kindness to make the world a bit brighter.    1    The following ideas will help you start.

Leave a space cleaner than you found it. If you eat out, keep your table clean after you're finished, making it a little easier for the waiter. At home, keep your things organized.    2

Be kind to strangers. It's well-known that everyone is fighting separate but equally different battles. Although you might not be able to understand or relate to everyone's tough situations, you can offer unconditional kindness and patience.    3     Maybe the fast-food worker has two other jobs and children at home. Although you don't know their situations, kindness is always appreciated.

4    This can be a little bit troublesome, and you need to be sensitive to people's needs. The easiest way to determine whether someone needs help is to ask, and respect their answer. When close friends and loved ones are struggling, your support is to say, “I love you.”

5    By donating the things that you don't need, want, or use, you allow another person to benefit from them rather than sending them to a landfill.

A.Try to offer your seats to the elder people.
B.Help someone who's struggling.
C.Choose to donate your used things.
D.Don't leave messes for others to clean up.
E.Maybe the old man deals with chronic pain.
F.Being an everyday hero is amazing and deserves others' respect.
G.If you can, take five minutes and be an everyday hero.
