I’m a real book lover. Every time my friends visit me, my nose is buried in a book. Wherever I go, I always have a book with me. Novels, history books, stories about people, journals and news—I read them all and I’ve learnt a lot, too. For example, many things in life happen for the best even if we don’t like or understand them.

Why is reading such an enjoyable pastime for me? I probably first learned about it from my parents. My mother read to me at night in my childhood and bought me picture books. The greatest gift she has given me is a love for reading. And it will be a life-long habit.

No one ever asked me why I liked to read. They just saw me and asked, “Oh? Is that for school work?” And I just shook my head, “No. It’s just for fun.” While reading a good book, I can totally forget myself and fly to another world. It’s like exploring through someone’s eyes, which is just as exciting as watching a movie.

Reading is also necessary in order to learn about writing, to improve my use of words and phrases and broaden my knowledge. What a pity to see our imagination disappear, for we don’t exercise it often. Reading can even be good for one’s health, I think. Everyone should read sad stories that make us cry and also books with humor that make us laugh out loud!

A.it is bad for our healthB.we will soon learn how to write
C.it will help us to have a good restD.it will soon disappear
4. What does the passage mainly talk about?
A.Why do I have few friends?B.What are my life habits?
C.Why do I love reading?D.Why do things happen for the best?

【推荐2】How can I make my family happy? This important question holds the key to more meaningful relationships with the other members of your household. To help you get started, here are some suggestions to brighten your family members’ days.

Have meals together as often as possible. Parents work and kids have after-school activities, so it’s tough to have breakfast and dinner together every day.    1     Family meals are a key routine and can help you stay involved in each other’s lives.

2    It is very important that you let them know about your life. That way, they can understand you, congratulate or empathize with you and generally know what’s going on in your life. In turn, it is equally important that you know about their lives too, so that they feel understood, supported and can be reassured that they are not alone.

Set aside time for regular family activities. Regular activities could include bike rides, walks, or playing cards or board games.     3    Keep it low-key, and focus on having fun together and enjoying each other’s company.

Learn what they love doing and ask questions about it. Ask them how their hobby, their interest or their work is going.    4     Get informed on the things they are interested in, so you can have meaningful conversations or go to meaningful events together.

Even the smallest things count. With a simple text or a brief phone call, you can make someone’s day.    5     When you know that someone is going through a hard time, call, text, or be with them at their time of need like you would like them to do for you.

A.Avoid severe criticism and judgments.
B.Talk to your family members at the end of the day.
C.However, do your best to eat together as often as possible.
D.Be an active listener when they tell you and learn what you can.
E.Just make sure you leave a positive message that will leave them feeling happy.
F.If possible, devote at least an afternoon or evening per week for a family activity.
G.Hopefully, you can have more powerful and fulfilling connections with your loved ones.

【推荐3】Kyle Semrau came home on the morning of April 12 after an overnight shift feeling light-headed. He told his wife he would be laying low for the day, joined by his 6-year-old daughter, Macie.

On a normal day, Macie would have been at school, but that particular morning she had refused to even get dressed for school, so she stayed home. It turns out that her unexplained want to stay home was for the best.

Later in the day. Semrau collapsed from a medical event that caused him to slip in and out of consciousness. Macie learned her dad was in trouble when she heard him yelling. In a moment while Semrau was conscious, Macie asked her dad for his phone passcode so she could unlock the device. She logged in, opened the browser, and phoned the local police department.

Macie relayed the relevant information, including their address, to Judy Smith, the Eliot Police Department’s administrative assistant who answered the phone.

“That’s really lucky,” Semrau told Boston 25 News. “I still have it saved. If you open up my browser, that’s the way it is spelled, ‘Elliot poliz’. She pushed the call button, which actually goes right to the dispatcher (调度员) here in town.”

The police arrived two minutes after Macie called.

Semrau’s medical emergency was due to issues with his sinuses (鼻窦炎), which led to difficulty breathing, according to Seacoast Online. He is now home and doing well.
