Going for a picnic is a good experience to be in nature, but it’s terrible to have a picnic that will do harm to the environment. Here are some ways to keep your picnic green.

Use reusable plates and cups. You don’t need to wash disposable (—次性的) plates and cups because they pollute the environment. It’s greener and cheaper to bring metal plates and cups from home. After the picnic, you can take them home and wash them.

Try to buy food from local farmers’ markets. In general, if you bring less food for your picnic, you’ll create less pollution.

Try to have an all-vegetarian picnic. Modern production of meat uses lots of energy and creates lots of pollution.

Instead of driving, ride a bike or walk to the park. If the park you want to visit is too far from your home, you can take public transportation like buses or subways.

After your picnic, remember to pick up all your trash. Try to keep the picnic area clean. If possible, try not to create any trash at all and reuse whatever you can.

文章大意:这是一篇说明文。文章主要说明了一些应对失去朋友的方法。

【推荐1】Friendships can end. You may be feeling sad about your friend moving away.     1     There are many reasons that a friendship may come to an end. Whatever the reason is, here are some ways to cope with your loss.

2     There is no need to blame yourself or the other person for your friendship ending, unless you want to hang onto the pain of losing your friend for the rest of your life. Blame, anger, and regret are traps that keep you from moving on after a relationship ends.

Create new habits and routines. When a friendship ends, old habits die hard sometimes.     3     You can try to find new social activities, hobbies, and sports activities. They can keep your mind occupied, improve your mental and physical health and create new social connections.

4     One of the most important things to do when you’re letting go of someone you care about is to give yourself — as well as the other person — time and space to deal with the grief of a lost friendship. You both will need time and space to figure out how to live independently and find new interests and activities.

Set new personal goals. Set some goals that you want to reach and then make a plan to achieve each of those new goals. However, make sure that the goals you set are for you and you alone. Goals set just to spite (怨恨) someone else won’t help you move past the pain of the relationship ending.     5

A.Give yourself time and space
B.Avoid playing the blame game.
C.Avoid feeling sad about losing a friend.
D.You need new habits to replace your old ones.
E.Or perhaps you were the one who moved away.
F.So don’t set a self-improvement goal just to get back at your friend.
G.However, constant reminders of your old friendship can make letting go really hard.

【推荐2】How to Eat Slowly to Avoid Overeating

Eating slowly can help you to better understand your real hunger signals and recognize reasons for faster eating, such as emotions or simply liking the taste of food. However, eating slowly is not a decision that you make suddenly.     1

1. Adjust you mind. Do not even attempt to acquire the habit of eating slowly before you’re mentally ready. Relax and use your imagination to create mental images that your brain will remember. As part of this mental process, imagine yourself thin and fit.

2.     2     Eating slowly isn’t just about slowing down the chewing; it’s also about slowing down your food choices. As you pick out the processed food, replace it with healthy, unprocessed or less processed choices.

3. Always relax before you start eating. Take a few deep breaths through the nose, not through the mouth. As you do so, hold your breath briefly and exhale(呼出) slowly by the mouth.     3    In this way, you remove any risk of comfortable eating.

4. Drink a glass of water or a small bowl of soup before the main dishes. This will give you a sense of fullness. Be aware that not everyone advocates drinking during a meal, as some people believe that this can remove the nutrients from your meal.     4

5. Spend at least 20 minutes on your meal.     5     Eat your last portion slowly, if you are still hungry after 20 minutes, because it means you are eating too fast!

A.Put the forks down after putting food in your mouth.
B.Get rid of the stress before you start eating.
C.It’s a habit that you need to acquire with practice.
D.However, specialists believe water actually aids in digestion.
E.Remove as much processed food from your plate or food storage as possible.
F.Have a clock in sight from the table to adjust your eating speed.
G.It is wise to talk to your doctor about this, if it’s still a problem for you.

【推荐3】Holly King-Mand has given thousands of pupils online lessons. You can find out more about Holly’s live online classes at hollysclassroom.com. Her online lesson this week is about how to end a story, which can be a lot harder than starting one. She says great writing isn’t just about well-written sentences, it is also how a story is put together. Holly provides us some ideas for how to make your stories finish with a bang.

Foreshadowing is a way of preparing your readers for a great ending. It means giving them clues throughout the story to keep them interested in what will happen later. For example, stormy weather could be a sign that forebodes something bad or dramatic is going to happen.

Also, a happy ending is most people’s favorite way to end a story. With a happy ending, questions are answered and characters get all the good things they want. They might make up with their friends, find the missing treasure or overcome a difficult time.

A cliffhanger ending is very popular as well. Often the storyline ends suddenly and the reader is left thinking, “Goodness me, what will happen next?” Though this type of ending may leave your readers feeling upset that so much was left unexplained, it’s a good way to set up a follow-on story.

Then, a surprise usually gives a big turn in the story, particularly at the end, which can make your writing shine. An unexpected surprise can give the reader a big “wow!” moment. Maybe a secret is uncovered, a character turns out to be an entirely different person or the story goes in a different direction. However you do it, the aim is to thrill your readers and make them say, “I was not expecting that ending!”
