What on earth does happiness mean? I can’t give you its exact definition, but I’m sure if you love and help others, you’ll get it.

I’ll never forget     1    old lady. She lives in a small house alone. It is said that her husband and her son died in a road accident years ago. Her life is bitter,    2     she often helps others with a smile. Whenever    3     snows, she is always the first to clean the paths. She looks after several children     4     (live) nearby. I am one of them. I often remember the stories she told us and her kind smile. Perhaps she is unlucky, but I think she is a happy person. Her life is full of    5     （laugh）and love.

But I’m sad to see some people getting their happiness    6    bad ways. They talk     7    （noisy）in cinemas and meeting rooms; they destroy trees to enjoy themselves and they laugh at others’ shortcomings. Perhaps they feel happy at that time, but they will never get true happiness because they     8    （lose）their personality already.

Now I know     9     happiness is. It means kindness, love and unselfishness. Above all, I have come to understand that bringing happiness to others     10     (be) getting ourselves happiness.

A man came to the USA from another country. After     1     (settle) down at an island, he went into a cafeteria to get something     2     (eat). He sat down at an empty table and waited for someone to take his order, but nobody did.     3     (final) a woman with a tray full of food sat down opposite him and told him     4     the cafeteria worked.

“Start out at that end,” she said. “Just go along the line and pick out what you want. At     5     other end they’ll tell you how much you have to pay. ”

“I was     6     (surprise) how everything worked in the USA,” the man told his friend. “Life’s a cafeteria there. You can get anything you want as long as you are willing to pay the price. You can even get success,     7     you will never get it if you wait for someone to bring it to you. You have to get up and get it     8     (you).”

You can’t change the inevitable. The only thing you can do     9     (be) to control your attitude. Once you reach that point in life, happiness and     10     (satisfy) can’t be too far away.

A man asked God    1    （ angry）， "I am a learned person． Why don't you give me a chance to come to fame？" God answered， "You're a learned person，    2    you just tried everything a little．"    3    （hear） this， the man started practicing the piano hard， but still not become famous． He asked God again， "I have mastered the piano， but why don't you give me any chance to win a name yet？" God    4    （shake） his head， helped you take part in the contest secretly， but you lacked confidence．"    5    this， the man trained harder more years． He built up bis confidence and took part in the    6    （compete） again．

However， due to the judge's unfairness，    7    chance was seized by other people.     8    （depress）,the man said， "God， I've tried my best． Seemingly， I won't be able to succeed．" God told    9    （he） with a smile， "You've almost succeeded． You only need a final leap．" "A final leap？" He was astonished． God nodded， "You've got the ticket for success-frustration． Success is a gift    10    failure will give you．" This time， that man bore in mind God's words and succeeded eventually．
