With no electricity or Wi-Fi, and offering only the slimmest chance of getting a cell signal, the million- plus acres of wild land and water that parents and kids can explore there today is little changed from the 1400s, when the Ojibwe first traveled these waterways in canoes.
For kids addicted to smartphones and other electronic devices(设备), such a trip may mark the first time they've really experienced true quiet. Although adventure seekers treasure it for its scores of tracks, primitive camping sites, and more than 1,500 miles of canoe routes, it's the peace of nature and hearing their own breathing and heartbeats, maybe for the first time, that can make this place so magical and meaningful for children.
"This place changes people," says local shop owner Steve Nelson. "It's a phenomenal experience to share. The wilderness calls you. It really does." When Nelson takes families into the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness(BWCAW), he tells the kids to get up early and silently, take a cup of hot chocolate, and then sit on the shore to watch the plants and animals of the Boundary Waters wake up.
"When the parents and children sit there, they are going to hear birds making long high sounds in the distance and singing nearby," he says. "They might see fish come up and catch insects sitting on the surface, and turtles resting on the rocks. They are watching, listening, hearing, and appreciating their surroundings in a way that isn't possible in a city."
"There was a family with three boys who would go out into the wilderness for 20 days at a time," Nelson says. "When I asked the dad why he took the trip year after year, he said, "Number one, it is one of the most inexpensive vacations. Number two, and more important, is who my kids are going to talk to out here? It's just my wife and me, so they have to talk to us."

However, he never imagined that meeting the CEO of apple or giving a presentation to one of the top 25 investors of the 20th century would be part of his college experience. “I cannot imagine a better place to obtain a high-quality education while making so many lifelong friendships,” Pulatov says. “UW-Eau Claire helped shape me intellectually and my thinking about my future career.” This spring, Pulatov graduated with degree in finance and was named the 2020 College of Business Outstanding Senior, an honor that goes to a student who shows great promise in their chosen field. While at Driehaus, he reported directly to the head of investments, giving him plenty of opportunities to observe various aspects of the firm and to learn from top fund managers. “I worked hard to impress my manager and had a chance to attend many high-level meetings,” Pulatov says. “It was an extremely invaluable experience, which helped me better understand what skills I need to develop, and it unlocked many new opportunities.”
While the internships were invaluable, he also had many on-campus experiences that helped him grow his knowledge and thinking.

【推荐1】Last May I was hired by a large government agency. I had seven coworkers and a boss, Mrs. King. Our job was to sort huge amounts of mail into four hundred slots( 位置). We delivered the mail out of grocery carts we wheeled from office to office, picking up outgoing mail as we went along. Each mail delivery took an entire half-day to sort and deliver.
My troubles began almost as soon as I arrived. I was horrified to see that the slots were labeled not with people’s names but with their initials. Without thinking, I asked why this was a good idea, only to receive a sharp glance from Mrs. King. So I repeated the question. This time Mrs. King told me not to question what I didn’t understand. It was the first of many such exchanges, and I hadn’t been on the job a half-hour. The longer I worked at the job, the more I saw how inefficient all the procedures were, from delivery routes to times for coffee breaks.
When I asked Mrs. King about the procedures, however, she always reacted the same way. I continued with it over the next seven weeks, but my efforts were fruitless, even counterproductive.
Two months later, I was fired. I objected, of course. The personnel manager asked me if I had ever heard of the barnyard pecking order: the top chicken pecks on the one below it, the second pecks on the third, and so on all the way down the line to the lowliest chicken, whose life is a constant misery. Mrs. King, the manager said, was that lowliest chicken at the bottom of the pecking order in the agency’s management. No one should doubt for a moment that she ruled her rooster.
I reflected upon my adventure in the agency. Eventually I saw how arrogant, and how unsympathetic, my behavior had been. In my next job, I ’ll learn the pecking order before I become a reformer, if I do.

In my opinion, you can only be a superstar if you find your own voice. If you want to sound great and attract people, just get comfortable with your own voice. Do you think Bob Dylan has a great voice? Of course not, but people love his voice and his songs. One of the main reasons is that he's very comfortable with himself and his own voice. So, remember this when you're asking yourself how to sing like a superstar.
I hate hearing many singers trying to imitate (模仿) other singers! But it still happens all the time and yes, some of them do become famous by trying to sound like others. I just don't feel like I'm listening to real art when I hear these so-called stars trying to imitate someone else with their voice.
Now one thing I like to do is to sing other people's songs in my own voice. Yes, you can practice a great song by an artist you love while you're driving down the road, but practice it in your own voice, not his or her voice. Turn down the volume (音量) a little and hear your own natural voice singing the song and giving it a totally new flavor!
That's exciting and you're being true to yourself. We're supposed to be artists and that means expressing ourselves in a unique way. So if you're asking how to sing like a superstar, remember to just use your own voice.
