From robots delivering coffee to office chairs rearranging     1     (they) after a meeting, a smart city project in China aims to put artificial intelligence     2     charge.

Last month, Danish architecture firm BIG and Chinese tech company Terminus     3     (discuss) plans to build an AI-run campus-style development in the southwestern Chinese city of Chongqing during     4     online global tech conference.

The project     5     (name) Cloud Valley, plans to use sensors and wifi-connected devices to gather data on everything from weather and pollution to people’s eating habits to meet residents’ needs     6     (automatic), said Terminus.

Cities around the world are racing to embrace technology to improve urban life by collecting data to address problems like traffic jams and crime. More than 500 smart cities are being built across China     7     (promote) growth in a global economic downturn. The city, which includes offices, homes, public spaces and self-driving cars     8     move around under the watchful eye of AI, is due for completion in about three years, according to Terminus.

Yet, like other smart cities, its tech-driven approach has raised privacy concerns.

“Isn’t all of this a little     9     (frighten)?” asked a conference-goer. Another attendee said smart cities risked becoming a threat to human rights if     10     (company) and governments didn’t take steps to limit surveillance (监视) and ensure inclusivity.

Some consumers still tend to focus on labels,     1     (feel) proud that they have a product made in Italy. They don’t know that a growing number of Italian products come from Chinese-owned factories. The products     2     were marked “Made in China” gave buyers an     3     (impress) of “low pride and low costs, low technology and development”. The statement used to be true,     4     now it has changed. “Made in China” is becoming a leading part in the world market. China’s garment (衣服) industry has been investing in producing technology and training for     5     (decade), and its workforce has gotten better at sewing garments. As a result, the quality of Chinese-made clothes is rising fast. It has been home     6     a highly-skilled, highly-specialized garment industry, one that supplies even some high-end labels and offers the     7     (good) mix of price, speed, and quality in the world.

Despite the rising wages and costs of doing business in China, many luxury brands, such as Burberry, Armani, and Prada     9     (produce) many things here so far, because they’ re still able to get good workmanship at a     10     (relative) low price.

South Koreans consume 2.4 billion plastic straws (吸管) annually. And like in many other countries, the government is stepping up to reduce the amount of single-use plastics.

The idea of Rice Straws came to Kim Kwang-pil when he first saw     1     eatable cup. He thought to himself, “If they can make a cup you can eat, why not a straw?”

That was the beginning of Kim’s company, Yeonjigonji,     2     produces eco-friendly straws     3     (make) of rice. Kim settled on rice mainly     4     it is familiar to consumers in his country. The rice straws come in various shapes and sizes and can     5     (complete) break down within 100 days.

“I met people who wouldn’t believe I could eat the straws. So, when I did, they     6    (convince),” said Kim.

So far the company     7     (sign) deals with companies in dozens of countries throughout Asia, North America and South America.

As they are eatable, the rice straws need to pass food safety laws in each country. But Kim believes that his straws are     8     (good) than paper or other straws. “After all, you still need to cut down trees     9     (produce) paper straws,” said Kim, whose next goal is to create environmentally-friendly, single-use cutlery (餐具), like forks,     10     (knife) and spoons.
