Some people never master the art of being patient, and at times, all of us struggle with being patient. Sometimes a certain situation or a certain person just pushes our buttons, making it much more difficult for us to remain patient.    1    It becomes harder to concentrate, and it becomes harder to be polite to other people.

2     No one is born to be patient. As you learn and grow and experience things in life, you become wiser and learn how to interact with difficult kinds of people.

3     This is normal, as you have never had the experience of working in an office before. At first, it might be difficult to understand your job. You might even lose patience, but over time you’ll be able to interact with other people with more confidence and patience. Someone at work disagrees with you, and it might make you become anxious.    4    You’ll be less likely to become bothered when presented with different situations. Though it might be difficult, you should try to be patient in life. This will help you in nearly all situations.     5    Age doesn’t always mean that someone is wise, and wisdom doesn’t always mean that someone is patient, though the two often go hand in hand.

A.You must keep in mind that patience comes with experience and wisdom.
B.Once you lose patience, things tend to go wrong.
C.Learning to be patient takes time and it takes patience to learn to be patient.
D.Patience is acquired as you acquire wisdom, and wisdom is the child of experience.
E.However, with experience, you’ll learn how to present your opinions clearly.
F.The more patience you have, the better you’ll cope in various situations..
G.For example, you start your first job in a big office, and you don’t really know how to work with lots of people.

文章大意:这是一篇说明文。文章通过两个事例介绍了“That train has left the station.”这句话的含义。

【推荐1】Imagine you are in your final days of study in Budapest. So, on your last weekend, you plan a train trip from Budapest to Prague. You only have a couple of days to make the trip.

You buy a ticket leaving on a Friday night. But after your last class, your professor offers a dinner to congratulate you with a celebration. You have to agree, but your eye is always on the clock.

Dinner takes longer than you thought it would and finally you thank him and say you have a train to catch. But he insists you stay for a quick dessert and offers to drive you to the station. You figure that if he drives you, you will have just enough time to catch your train. But after the dessert, he remembers, “Oh, I didn’t drive. How silly of me!” leaving you to hurry to the station.

Unfortunately, the train—your train—is pulling away. And there won’t be another one until the next night. You have missed your train. And that brings us to our expression for today: That train has left the station.

If you like expressions about boats, you can also say “That ship has sailed” or that someone has “missed the boat”. They are all used the same way.

Besides missing an opportunity, all of these expressions could be used in another situation: When events have been put into place and there is no stopping them.

For example, let’s say your mother wants to fix you up with the nice child of her boss. She arranges the date without talking to you first. You don’t want to go, but she has already told her boss you would. She can say “Sorry, but the train has already left the station. You must go on that date.”

D.You gave up an opportunity to have dinner with your professor.
3. What can we infer from the last paragraph?
A.The child of your mother’s boss is very intelligent.

【推荐2】How can I carry out a group project?

Group projects can be so overwhelming (使人不知所措的), especially when people don’t cooperate and follow through. “    1    ” To follow this wise advice from expert Julie Hochheiser IIkovich, simply break down that hug project into smaller jobs that can be tracked. Here’s exactly how to do it:

●List it. The day the project is assigned, immediately identify the end goal.     2    This should include everything from minor tasks to major ones.

●Schedule it.    3    This should include meetings, tasks, and deadlines. Assign each person a color and highlight each task with those colors, so it’s clear who is doing what.

●Track it. As a team, decide on a project manager who will keep everyone on track, and who you agree is allowed to call team members out if they’re not hardworking. (Advice on how to choose:     4    )

As stressful as group work is, it can actually be beneficial in the long run. At first, groups that work well together can achieve much more than individuals working on their own. And being part of a team will help you develop your interpersonal skills. Also, working with others will help identify your own strengths and weaknesses.       5

A.Give feedback on group processes to groups
B.Then list what needs to get done to accomplish it
C.Look for the person with the most organized desk!
D.A half-hour of planning saves a week of stress at the end!
E.Create a timetable for the project and put everything from the list on it.
F.This sense about yourself will be invaluable when you enter the workforce.
G.Group projects can help people develop new approaches to solving problems.

【推荐3】For lots of kids, toddlerhood(幼儿期)is an important time for friendship. Studies show that the earlier kids learn to form positive relationships, the better they are at relating to others as teenagers and adults. Playing together also helps these kids practice social behaviors, such as kindness, sharing, and cooperation.

Even so, how quickly your child develops into a social creature may also depend on his temperament. Some toddlers are very social, but others are shy. In addition, the way that toddlers demonstrate that they like other children is markedly different from what adults think of as expressions of friendship. Research at Ohio State University in Columbus found that a toddler’s way of saying “I like you” during play is likely to come in the form of copying a friend’s behavior.

This seemingly unusual way of demonstrating fondness can result in unpleasant behavior. Regardless of how much they like a playmate, they may still grab his toys, refuse to share, and get bossy. But experts say that this is a normal and necessary part of friendship for kids this age. Through play experiences, toddlers learn social rules. That’s why it’s so important to take an active role in your toddler’s social encounters by setting limits and offering frequent reminders of what they are. When you establish these guidelines, explain the reasons behind them.

Begin by helping your child learn sympathy (“Ben is crying. What’s making him so sad?”), then suggest how he could resolve the problem(“Maybe he would feel better if you let him play the ball.”). When your child shares or shows empathy(同理心)toward a friend, praise him(“Ben stopped crying! You made him feel better.”).

Another way to encourage health y social interaction is by encouraging kids to use words—not fists—to express how they feel. It’s also important to be mindful of how your child’s personality affects playtime. Kids are easy to get angry when they’re sleepy or hungry, so schedule playtime when they’re refreshed.

1. What does the underlined word “temperament” in Paragraph 2 probably mean?
A.Appearances.B.Ages.C.Characters.D.Interests.
2. What does it indicate when toddlers copy their playmates’ behavior?
A.They are fond of their playmates.
B.They are interested in acting.
C.They are shy with the strangers.
D.They are tired of playing games.
3. What does the author suggest parents do for their kids?
A.Find them suitable playmates.
B.Design games for them.
C.Play together with them.
D.Help them understand social rules.
4. What is the function of the quoted statements in Paragraph 4?
A.Explaining concepts.B.Giving examples.
C.Providing evidence.D.Making comparisons.
